Bekki Williams - Shadow of the Wind

Artist: Bekki Williams
P: 1997
"Shadow of the Wind is a masterpiece of symphonic electronic music that will remind many of the best works by the Euro Superstars Jarre and Vangelis... the level of sophistication both musically and instrumentally is stunning. It's rare that a relatively new artist comes up with anything this impressive".
"This is warm, melodic EM at its most accomplished. Bekki's style is a world away from the free-form analogue improvisations of some contemporary acts, and yet she represents what is probably the most accessible genre of EM, concentrating on melody and wide-eyed romanticism. Its potential appeal is great and she could turn out to be AD Music's first big breakthrough. Watch this space".

Berlin Heritage - Land of the Rising Sun

Artist: Berlin Heritage
P: 2012
Berlin Heritage is a new name in the field of electronic music, who is going back to the roots of the 70s era of electronic music: At that time Berlin school artists like Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream took their time to develop long compositions. You can hear mysterious, hypnotic slow motion-like atmospheres that lead to old-fashioned sequencer patterns that sometimes remind us of the early work of Bernd Kistenmacher. The nostalgic mellotron sounds and the deep space sound clouds create a fascinating bizarr atmosphere.
By the excellent blend of timeless soundscapes and lovely old sequences you can enjoy the whole album like a smooth and unique Berlin School journey.

Bernd Kistenmacher - Wake Up In The Sun
Artist: Bernd Kistenmacher
P: 1989/ 1994

This studio album dates from 1987, an era when the great bands and artists of the 70s virtually burned out, and entered the shallow waters of commercialization, muzak, elevator music and creative emptiness in general. However, the spirit does not die in the nation, and the late 80s spawned the new generation of electronic music. Yet again the German way of Electronica proved beyond doubt that they and only they have it in blood. If flamenco and tango burns like a fire in the southern musicians, almost by default, we can say the same about zee Teutons in the ambient/electronic genre.
Bernd Kistenmacher is a young lad who entered the stage in 1986 with his "Head Visions", and knocked us out completely with his next release, "Wake Up In The Sun".
If you feel as lost as I did years ago, i.e. if you know brand names only, then here's a hint, meine freund. Bernd composes in the good old tradition of electronic rock - taking the best inspirations from Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Tempel, and most of all, Klaus Schulze and Michael Hoenig. These inspirations are eminent, no doubt, and they are evident on this album, especially with respect to Hoenig.
The first track of this album, over 20 minutes long, is a tribute to old masters. Whereas the influences are strong, we hear a distinct, young voice of originality.
The second track, the shortest on the album (just over 8 minutes) is one of the best ambient beats I have ever heard in my life. Incredibly rhythmic, with almost no drums, however - it rocks you, and yet the stigma of electronic meditation is undeniable. The second half of the album only gets better. No more Schulzian staccato, no more Klausian ostinato, no more Tangerine Arpeggio - just Bernd and his head visions. Although inspired, the structure of this over 20-minute track is evident from the very first minutes, but nevertheless it's an audiophiliac feast.

BIOnight - Art Of Friendship

Artist: BIOnight
P: 2005/ 2015
The Italians "Mac" and Sbrizzi FaBIO together make up BIOnighT. This is their fifth album since 1999 and it took them a lot of trouble to get made despite a considerable investment in new gear. The CD is almost one hour long and divided up into seven tracks of flowing melodic music from the direction of 80's TD and JM Jarre.
Although the sometimes droning sequencers and additional drum sounds betray a slightly more modern approach, there are plenty of moments where you can blissfully sink back in your chair and truly imagine that you are listening to a forgotten TD CD. The basis of the majority of the numbers is usually an uncomplicated sequence, that barely alters in tone or rhythm, whereby I occasionally get the feeling that things are a little monotonous. This particular criticism comes from someone who likes variation and thus does not apply to everyone!
The fact that the perhaps over-simplified basis is generously compensated for with, amongst other things, the building-up of added riffs, a different-sounding background orchestration or a quiet little melody line makes "The Art of Friendship" an attractive record that will appeal to a large audience.

BIOnight - The Rain Is Over

Artist: BIOnight
P: 2006 / 2015
This album marks some changes in our musical activities. First, we no longer meet in the BIOlofT (FaBIO's home studio) to write and record our music to then move all the instruments to the Synthuary (Mac's home studio) to mix the material, but the whole process from writing to mixing is now carried out at the Synthuary.
Second, now BIOnighT play entirely with VST instruments and effects to avoid the hassle of wires and cables as well as to enjoy the amazing creative freedom given by virtual instruments.
The result is a relaxed album that freely moves from Berlin School stuff to New Age (to Mac's horror!) that hopefully will give a pleasant time to most of you.

Biosphere - Cirque

Artist: Biosphere
P: 2000
Biosphere is Geir Jensen, a unique techno artist who is spearheading Norway's current improv/electroacoustic/electronica revolution - a revolution that makes it the most interesting musical country on the planet right now. `Cirque' is the best of four groundbreaking Biosphere records. Like Autechre's, this is a deliberately, expressively distressed music. Precision structures billow at you numbed by Arctic cold which blurs and quietens them. The pieces are like geometric ice formations muffled by snowdrifts. Bass tracks boom like hidden substrata; melodies emerge anaesthetised. There's a sense of longed-for warmth and comfort. Like Polar weather, sunlight briefly appears, and just as suddenly disappears, in `Too Fragile to Walk On'. Mossy lifeforms bloom in `Nook and Cranny' before the music darkens again. The Biosphere aesthetic is unique and completely original, like Tarkovsky in sound, inducing nostalgia, a need to return to something lost, but which can never be found: in `Black Lamb and Grey Falcon', Sinatra goes for another take, only to find the chords the pianist is hitting keep transmuting into glacial electroacoustics. `Cirque' is a major achievement in techno; 2000's best, most original release in the genre. It has a commercial, softly beat-driven sheen, but behind this, the material is as distantly silent, awesome and elemental as an avalanche; and as endlessly fascinating. Essential.

Bjorn Lynne - Montage

Artist: Bjorn Lynne
P: 1994
Montage was Bjorn Lynne’s second CD, self-financed and self-published in January 1994.
Stylewise, ”Montage” is a slightly more daring album than the previous ”Hobbits & Spaceships”. The 10 tracks contain a wide mixture of styles and sounds, and although the album was produced entirely on synthesizers and effects, it is easy to hear Bjorn Lynne’s love for symphonic rock starting to shine through, especially on songs like ”Montage” and "Communion”; both of which are long tracks moving through several stages of ever changing moods. There are also some more down-to-earth simply melodic pieces like ”Head Held High” and ”Fantastic Voyage ’94”. And, there are some slightly more experimental pieces like the futuristic and very cyber-oriented ”The Spirit of Mechanica” as well as the symphonically ambient ”Enlightenment Through Fear”.

Bjorn Lynne - Worms 2 Game Soundtrack

Artist: Bjorn Lynne
P: 1997
This is the soundtrack for the computer game Worms 2. Lynne plays a lot of nice, friendly melodic tunes around each level of the game.
Despite the humorous nature of the game, this funky game soundtrack is not a joke. The tracks are a mix of synth-rock, funky electronica, rock, orchestral etc. Don't let the humorous track titles fool you; this is Bjorn Lynne appearing as his old "Dr.Awesome" self and doing some kickin' groovy tracks.
The CD also includes the original version of the cult hit "Wormsong" featuring the story of the game, with the worms singing on the chorus.
Tracks 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 are otherwise unreleased bonus tracks.

Blüchel + Von Deylen - Bi Polar (Diamond Edition)

Artist: Blüchel + Von Deylen
P: 2004 / 2006
The fantastic cooperation between Cosmic Baby and Schiller.
This is far better a collaboration between Harald AKA (Cosmic Baby)and the Schiller mastermind, Christopher Von Deylen.
Their take on the set of classical selections is comparable to that or William Orbit's Pieces in a Modern Style, although they have that Cosmic and Schiller feel.
Its a dinamite combination, two superstars, two geniouses...
Definitely a group to follow. Hopefully they will continue to collaborate and create more fanstastic soundscapes.
As in the movies, its a two thumbs up for this release.

Known as "Diamond Edition" with additional hologram cardboard sleeve.

Blue Knights - Tropical Night

Artist: Blue Knights
P: 1996
More interesting than smooth jazz, more rich than pure dance, Blue Knights takes strong influences of both to create cool grooves. "Tropical Night" collects enough material for an entire studio album plus a few previously hard to find tracks including a slowed-down version of their club/trance track "Gimme all your lovin'" as well as two other rare gems from Innovative Communication collection albums.
