From the recently unearthed archive of Ohr Records and Virgin Records Photographer Marcel Fugère.
In 2015, Hamburg-based photographer Marcel Fugère passed away, leaving behind an archive of tens of thousands of images spanning his entire career. Among the countless shots of theatre, dance, and music, were those of Tangerine Dream - a fledgling Berlin-based band he would shadow during the early 1970s. Those images - the bulk of which haven't been seen in over 50 years - are presented here.

… and The Chronicles Journey continues with this sixth instalment on Groove Unlimited with “The Concert”, originally released in 1988 comprising of a selection of recordings from 1986 – 1987 concerts. Due to potential copyright implications, the track “Song of the Whale” has been omitted and has been replaced with the longer rare composition “The Final Lophophora”. Once again, this recording reinforces Patrick’s ability to create accessible electronic music which is still enjoyable today after almost 40 years. This remastered version of “The Concert” reveals new nuances previously attenuated by a variety of media & recording aspects which have been rectified while retaining the original magic.

Electronic composer Bernd-Michael Land has released a new album, "JUICE" (JUpiter ICy moons Explorer). The music is based on scientific data from the JUICE mission, interpreting it as an electronic sound expedition. Instead of using existing samples, Land employs creative sonification: planetary measurements control musical parameters such as tempo, stereo imaging, and pitch. Predominantly analog synthesizers generate sound structures that make processes like magnetic fields, plasma waves, and atmospheric changes in the Jupiter system audible. The album deliberately unfolds slowly and atmospherically—inspired by the mission's long journey through the outer solar system.

The current CD, "Keep On Dreaming," presents tracks by French and German musicians who keep the spirit of Tangerine Dream alive. As you can hear, each musician has found their own way to express themselves with synthesizers, sequencers, and electronic sound generators. What unites them all is their fascination with Tangerine Dream. Just like Tangerine Dream, all the participating musicians create their own dream world: "Keep On Dreaming." It is a particular honor that Johannes Schmoelling, a former member of Tangerine Dream, has contributed a special track to the compilation CD. Johannes Schmoelling explains: "Since my participation in 'Synthfest France' in 2017, the encounters I had with French musicians back then have developed into genuine friendships that continue to this day. A musical collaboration like this CD is therefore only logical. I am all the more pleased that this project is dedicated to the band Tangerine Dream, as I was a member of this band for many years." The CD will be released at Synth Fest in Nantes in April 2026. Further information about the musicians can be found inside the booklet. Keep On Dreaming is a treat for all sequencer enthusiasts.

It's been almost 25 years since Axel released his first solo album, "First Light," under the pseudonym Axess. Now, on April 10, 2026, his eleventh album, "The Power Of Love," will be released. In this quarter-century, Axel's music has undergone a significant transformation. Little remains of the electronic music he originally made, heavily influenced by the so-called Berlin School; this style of music is now pursued by Axel in his project Pyramid Peak. As Axess, the 58-year-old musician, born in Leverkusen but now living in Meerbusch, presents a considerably more subdued sound. Since the 2017 album "Seashore," Axel's music has taken on a much more chilled-out, almost ambient, character. Expansive soundscapes, long reverberations, subtle rhythms, and chill beats define the music of his last four albums, and "The Power Of Love" is no exception! The eight tracks, ranging in length from 6:39 to 12:30 minutes, glide smoothly and hypnotically through the ears, allowing the listener to forget all the stresses of everyday life for nearly 75 minutes. All the songs move at a tempo of 70-94 bpm, leading to profound relaxation and encouraging imaginary journeys through space and time. The quality of both the songs and the overall sound has improved significantly compared to its predecessor, thanks in part to the final mastering of the CD by Axel's longtime friend and musical partner, Max "maxxess" Schiefele. With "The Power Of Love," Axel opens a new chapter in his musical career, as this CD is the first to be recorded entirely in his new "Reinklang Studio" in Meerbusch. Axel also leaves behind the past few personally difficult years and looks optimistically and full of inspiration toward a new, happy future. This positive, albeit sometimes slightly melancholic, mood runs like a common thread through the new CD and also includes one or two catchy tunes.

Erbe’s third multimedia story about his android protagonist GENE strives for perfection on three different levels. Whether it’s the music, the visual images or the story itself, all elements share a common intuition and ask the same question: when is something really perfect?
As in the previous story from 2023, Erbe blends the music with self-designed visuals and once again presents a complex and AI-generated universe of future thoughts and emotional developments of synthetic characters facing their own contradictions and moral choices. Of course, this theme is not entirely new, but Erbe presents it in a very special way. Music, images and story form a unity that has never been seen before. On the one hand, you get the feeling that Erbe’s musical ideas are clear to decipher and that you can completely immerse yourself in the presentation of the story. Nevertheless, he remains vague in his descriptions and leaves visitors plenty of scope for their own interpretations. No detail reveals the final meaning, but offers a variable motivation for the personal point of view.
Of course, the music on the current album also works excellently without the concert images. This time, the 12 tracks manage without additional vocals and atmospheric narrative elements and once again convey a narrative style that comes to a close in a spectacular finale.
The music therefore does not follow on from the concept of the previous album, but once again opens up a completely new chapter of unheard musical elements, embedded in Erbe’s unmistakable sound of sequenced melodic structures, the deeply interwoven drum textures and his always very changeable sound aesthetics. However, Stefan Erbe remains true to himself in one thing. His great art of creating a 65-minute arc of suspense that fits almost every BPM category is a key element of his success over the last three decades.
While Stefan Erbe categorized the previous GENESYS23 album as “Eletronical”, his current concept should perhaps be described as “Imagical”. Whatever a fitting description might be, Stefan Erbe is inexorably following the path of change and pursuing his own kind of hoped-for musical perfection with the album Metamorphosys. Perhaps even that of producing a final album at some point and being able to say that it simply can’t get any better. But this misconception is probably the perfect reason to just keep going and never end with the pursuit of musical perfection.

With Blanche, Jürgen Pluta's electronic solo debut is being released digitally and on CD for the first time - 45 years after its original release.
The former bassist of Wallenstein, Streetmark and Embryo recorded the album in 1979 at Procom Studio Kirchhellen, supported by Rolf Eggemann (drums) and Fritz Frey (guitar). Pluta, influenced by his collaboration with Harald Großkopf (Ashra Tempel, Wallenstein), developed his own sound language between Krautrock, synthesizer experimentation and atmospheric electronics. Blanche combines analog warmth with futuristic vision - a work that moves stylistically between cosmic music, early ambient and progressive electronics. 
The CD has been remastered by Eroc and contains an exclusive remix of the track "Voyage" by Harald Großkopf as a bonus. A fascinating contemporary document from the transitional phase between Krautrock and electronic avant-garde.

Robert Schroeder's new album is called Relaxesizer and, of course, offers the ideal foundation for extended relaxation.
The album title is plausible: relaxing music recorded with a synthesizer, in other words, Relaxesizer. In any case, the Klaus Schulze protégé has been familiar with highly relaxing compositions since 1979 and, even with his 48th solo album, can still offer imaginative and exceptional spherical electronic music.
On this album, Robert has compiled and applied the essence, the sum of his musical experiences and development. With Relaxesizer, he has clearly undergone a musical transformation, a maturation of his development. The result is this album, well worth listening to.

Chip Meditation was one of Software's most successful IC albums in the 80s. Peter Mergener was primarily responsible for the music at the time and is now celebrating the 40th anniversary of a cult album that set standards in the electronic music scene with Chip Meditation 2025.

On Chip Meditation 2025, the Software-typical sequences (trademark!) bubble out of the choir sounds, intertwining with warm pads and building up to a successful Berlin School track. The sounds develop fluidly, with occasional effects and touches of color reminiscent of Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream, gaining depth through the pad sounds.
Peter Mergener thus knows how to perfectly showcase these traditional Berlin School style elements in a contemporary, full-bodied sound, creating an atmosphere where you can "bathe" like in the old days.

Rolf Plankensteiner, the musician and composer of the album "Exponentialis," sees himself as part of an age of exponential developments, aware that technologies in a finite world always reach their limits. Thus, a turning point occurs at which the vertical of the exponential transforms into the universal. Quantity transforms into quality. And precisely this change is the special characteristic of music. The project band Pink 'n Orange celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2025 and now calls itself "The Pink 'n Orange Project." The artist collective consists primarily of Gabriele Schwerdfeger, Rolf Plankensteiner, Ives Fritzsch, Johny Demeuricy, and Conrad Westhoff. But good friends like Walter Bartel, Boris Schaa, Maurice Dreier, and Wolfgang Moser also regularly contribute their special parts to various projects, as in "EXPONENTIALIS." Every year in August the Roman festival "Bread & Games" take place in Trier, Germany¹s oldest city. Main locations are the unique Roman monuments, the "Kaiserthermen" and the amphitheatre. Both magnificent structures have been placed on the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage. The program of the historical event offers attractive entertainment for everybody. In the amphitheatre you can see exciting gladiators-fights and a parade of Roman soldiers (legions), at night-time the arena is illuminated by torches. In the Kaiserthermen you can experience the daily life in a Roman camp on the Palästra. A special atmosphere in the "Mystical Nights" was created by Peter Mergener & friends (Mergener et Amici) and his sound installations in the illuminated underground labyrinth of the ancient bath. The music written by Peter Mergener and Alquimia, was specially designed for this event and was the first time Mergener et Amici presented their music live on stage August 2004.

This release sees the initial collaboration between the electronic duo Cluster and NEU! multi-instrumentalist Michael Rother, with the result being perhaps one of the best examples of the Krautrock form. This release, along with the more flowing and poppy "Deluxe", takes the industrialisms of early Cluster and the driving rock mechanisms of NEU! and splices them together to concoct a very satisfying artifact. Stuttering electronic rhythms sit alongside alternately tranquil and creepy ethereal ambiences here, making this an excellent look at the mid-70s German scene prior to Kraftwerk's "Autobahn" and its blowing the doors open to this style of music. Those interested at all in the early days of electronic pop MUST own a copy of this.

In 1976 originally Manuel invited MICHAEL HOENIG to join the tour as ART. Both rehearsed for about four weeks. As some shows had to be postponed, Manuel had to tour alone because of Michael's obligations. But they have recorded some of the rehearsals and the music was released 19 years later in the summer of 1995 as Early Water by Hoenig/Göttsching.

This album, it is claimed, was due to be Tangerine Dream's fifth release for the German record label, Ohr, in 1973. Before it could be handed over for release, though, the band signed a deal with Virgin, recorded the music for "Phaedra" at the Manor, Shipton-on-Cherwell, and the rest, as they say, is history. The original "Green Desert" tape, recorded in August 1973, was not prepared for commercial release until 1984. By the time of this release, much of the material on it had already seen the light of day incorporated into more fully worked out and developed pieces, and this album sounds like little more than sketches for later works (mostly of the "Stratosfear" era).

Due to potential copyright implications, the track “Song of the Whale” has been omitted and has been replaced with the longer rare composition “The Final Lophophora”. Once again, this recording reinforces Patrick’s ability to create accessible electronic music which is still enjoyable today after almost 40 years. This remastered version of “The Concert” reveals new nuances previously attenuated by a variety of media & recording aspects which have been rectified while retaining the original magic.

The music on this CD is partly created by homemade instruments fabricated from old oxygen tanks, coffee cans, flour sifters and other found objects. Some other unique instruments such as Thai wooden bells and Chinese cymbals are present as well, along with synthesizers, sax, and guitars. The best track here, and also the most melodic, is "Flying Hearts," an upbeat composition that got lots of airplay on Galactic Radio's easy listening channel in the early 90s.

If you're at all into homemade instruments, or just are looking for new age that is somewhat different than most of what's out there, check this out.

It's been almost 25 years since Axel released his first solo album, "First Light," under the pseudonym Axess. Now, on April 10, 2026, his eleventh album, "The Power Of Love," will be released. In this quarter-century, Axel's music has undergone a significant transformation. Little remains of the electronic music he originally made, heavily influenced by the so-called Berlin School; this style of music is now pursued by Axel in his project Pyramid Peak. As Axess, the 58-year-old musician, born in Leverkusen but now living in Meerbusch, presents a considerably more subdued sound. Since the 2017 album "Seashore," Axel's music has taken on a much more chilled-out, almost ambient, character. Expansive soundscapes, long reverberations, subtle rhythms, and chill beats define the music of his last four albums, and "The Power Of Love" is no exception! The eight tracks, ranging in length from 6:39 to 12:30 minutes, glide smoothly and hypnotically through the ears, allowing the listener to forget all the stresses of everyday life for nearly 75 minutes. All the songs move at a tempo of 70-94 bpm, leading to profound relaxation and encouraging imaginary journeys through space and time. The quality of both the songs and the overall sound has improved significantly compared to its predecessor, thanks in part to the final mastering of the CD by Axel's longtime friend and musical partner, Max "maxxess" Schiefele. With "The Power Of Love," Axel opens a new chapter in his musical career, as this CD is the first to be recorded entirely in his new "Reinklang Studio" in Meerbusch. Axel also leaves behind the past few personally difficult years and looks optimistically and full of inspiration toward a new, happy future. This positive, albeit sometimes slightly melancholic, mood runs like a common thread through the new CD and also includes one or two catchy tunes.

In 2015, Hamburg-based photographer Marcel Fugère passed away, leaving behind an archive of tens of thousands of images spanning his entire career. Among the countless shots of theatre, dance, and music, were those of Tangerine Dream - a fledgling Berlin-based band he would shadow during the early 1970s. Those images - the bulk of which haven't been seen in over 50 years - are presented here.

But what dark secret do the walls hold? Fans of the writer Jules Verne (1828-1905) will already have guessed: the tenth NAUTILUS album is once again based on a novel by the French author. This time, the German band led by Martin Ludwig has taken on the 1892 novel ‘The Carpathian Castle’ and set it to music. The result is eleven new songs that deal primarily with Verne's novel, but as usual also leave room for individual thoughts. Ludwig's dreamy sounds, sometimes elegiacally flowing, sometimes energetically pulsating, repeatedly meet the compositions of his fellow musicians Jürgen Dürrbeck (synthesizer & sequencer) and Werner Strätz (electric guitar). Voices, such as those of singer Meiko Weigel (bass, vocals, samples) or Elmar Darimont in the intro, are used sparingly; instrumental passages are clearly in the foreground on this album. Anyone who has accompanied the band on their journey through electroacoustic soundscapes so far can close their eyes and let themselves go with ‘A Castle Full Of Secrets’ with a clear conscience: NAUTILUS are as retro as it gets, without ever seeming old-fashioned or degenerating into mere copies of their musical idols (whose influences are unmistakable). Welcome aboard!

Starting off with some slow revolving ambient tones that seem to linger in the air. The music starts to turn darker and with a little sense of chaos and fleeting synth squabbles. There seem to be many layers of odd experimental sounding samples. The track seems to be more of a collage of samples rather than a smooth track. By the track title, however, it would seem that maybe that was the intention of the artist. A slight intrusion with the guitar sequence that I did not personally like. It made it sound more of a new age sequence. It is followed by some trancey material and a nice older styled ambient background. Again a switch to some more choppy techno. All ends with a Namlook doodling which does bring the track to a nice close.

It's probably the sequencerest album you've ever heard - whatever you're expecting next, it's usually another sequencer pattern, and with some guitar added (and opening with a nice vocoder poem in the style of "Cyclone") the album appeals equally to fans of TANGERINE DREAM, Klaus Schulze, Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, PINK FLOYD and more. The result is being described as sounding like "Tangerine Dream meets Hawkwind", or "Jean-Michel Jarre jamming with Carlos Santana". The technology used to achieve this groundbreaking style involves everything from 20-year-old kit-built synthesizers to the massive triple keyboard yamaha ex1, via computers, samplers and exotic rhythm machines. Epic tracks with running times from 4 up to more than 10 minutes typically open with multiple analog sequencers, overlaid with electric and acoustic guitars, samples, vocoders or recorded voices. In another indication of the range of styles covered, the cd is dedicated to the memories of Camel keyboardist Peter Bardens, whose melodic minimoog playing particularly was an early influence on mark's style, and of legendary can guitarist Michael Karoli.

Next to his work with Tangerine Dream, Edgar (at the moment also with a W.) Froese also has quite a successful solo career.
The music for “Epsilon In Malaysian Pale” was done in 1975 after he had visited Malaysia and Australia. Compared to the music of TD, his solo music had a somewhat simpler approach. Then again, he had only two hands instead of the six of TD in those days, and overdubs weren’t used as much as they are today. I consider “Epsilon…” a masterpiece. Especially for the fans of the Mellotron, there is much to enjoy on this album.
The title track opens with new effects, after which typical Mellotron sounds enter as flute and strings. The digital additions are chosen tasteful and, happily, the atmosphere of the original composition stays intact. As the end nears, a simple, but effective, sequence is used.
I find the second track "Maroubra Bay” to be of great quality. Starting with beach sounds, effects, and menacing Mellotron strings, an atmospheric part follows with dark synth parts as well as modern sounds. The sequence that follows is very strong.

Electronic Mediation is a significant album for two reasons: it is the first album released by Tangerine Dream, and it marks the first album appearance of Edgar Froese, Klaus Schulze, and Conrad Schnitzler – a nexus of musicians who would individually go on to influence and shape the sound of electronic music in Europe for the next several decades.
The group had been in existence for almost three years with members rotating in and out regularly. Tangerine Dream was still not entirely stable even at the time of this recording as Schulze and Schnitzler both bowed out soon after for other projects, and Froese would hook up with more permanent musicians as well. Thomas Keyserling and Jimmy Jackson also appear playing flute and organ respectively.
Musically, the album is interesting as it shows a band that is still in a very experimental and transitional phase. However, a bit of warning: Electronic Meditation is not recommended for laid-back listening and drifting. This is not an album that the casual electronic music fan ­ or even casual TD fan –would enjoy. This is avant-garde rock and roll bordering on the psychedelic. The music is sometimes harsh, abrupt, and reckless in it’s approach. The recording is also not of the best of quality, even after remastering. However, what the album lacks in polish and pure novelty (as other bands had tread most of the ground before), it imbues the chaotic sounds with a subtle underlying direction. This is not music for madnesss’ sake – there is promise of things to come.

Invocations is a live album recorded at the Invocations Music festival in Bungay, plus additional live music recorded in 2024 and 2025. The festival was an all day celebration of local myths and legends featuring musicians from the folk, electronic and literary genres. The CD clocks in at 78 minutes and features the 3 part ‘Invocations suite’, covering local myths and legends, focusing on wolves, a mermaid and dragons. This includes re-arranged music from David Wright’s ‘Fade’ and ‘In Search of Silence’ albums, with spoken word researched, written and narrated by the artist. The music featured as the concert finale. Guest musicians includes Carys, Glenn Main, Stephan Whitlan, Sherry Finzer and Suzanne Lansford. There are two brand new tracks, a beautiful interpretation of the classic Vangelis track “12 o’clock” and the reworking of several classic DW tracks.

Reissue in a 2CD jewel case with expanded liner notes in a 12-page booklet – a beloved classic by Klaus Schulze! 1975 Release Classic Album - "Timewind".
Originally released in 1975, Timewind is one of the most revered and mesmerizing recordings in the extensive Klaus Schulze catalogue and certainly the best known globally. Says Mike DeGagne on The All-Music Guide: "Dedicated to Richard Wagner, Timewind is a 60-minute electronic expedition that is broken up into two half-hour tracks, Bayreuth Return and Wahnfried 1883. The first 30 minutes involves icy pulsations and lengthy tonal flights that unnoticeably converge into each other. While one rhythm gains momentum, the other one slowly fades into a bubbly electronic bath of bright swirls and meandering keyboard waves. Similar to early Tangerine Dream, the music here rises and falls above a distant sonic horizon, and the effect is truly mesmerizing. One specific flow can last for minutes, while small, detailed noises adhere themselves to the main electronic run. On the second track, more of the same far-off synthesized altering takes place, but the washes of keyboard become inoculated with a sharper, more precise sound. Longer notes build into resilient pieces with the same comforting result. This album will sketch a barren wasteland in the mind through the wispiness of the wind-like effects. Timewind serves as splendid mood music, and the ears are forever kept busy following Schulze's electronic wandering."

The previously unreleased bonus tracks, Echos Of Time and Solar Wind, were recorded in 1975 at Klaus' home in the same sessions as Timewind while Windy Times was taken from a session twenty five years later.

This is a strong release from the Dinger camp. Usually found bunched in with La Dusseldorf releases but in my opinion it stands on it's own. Very weird, eclectic mix of odd sounds, over produced synths, raw guitar and strange songs but oddly enough, it all works beautifully. Dinger always had his own thing and nothing sounds quite like this. The track "America" alone makes it worth getting this release. Dinger fans won't be disappointed.

Hansson is just briimming with diverse musical ideas from a wide range of infuences, and he weaves them together into an enduring thematic whole. Unlike so many other progressive rock bands of the time, Hansson lacks the somewhat grandiose pretensiousness other groups seemed to engage in that now makes their music seem dated and unsophisticated. Hansson's vision seems to be pursued for its own sake, and this has lasted. This is an absolutely outstanding recording. This 1972 album is no different, although musically it finds him exploring jazzier styles a bit more than on his debut album Lord of the Rings (1970). The jazzy styles are featured a tiny bit on the lengthy opening track Big City. For those of you that do not like the sound of jazz on a Bo Hansson album - fear not. In large part, the music on Magician's Hat is mellow prog rock that mixes Swedish folk styles and European classical music and features Bo's excellent spacey organ, mini-moog, and mellotron playing. Although Bo is a multi-instrumentalist, he is supported on Magician's Hat by a flute/sax player, guitarist, and drummer. There is some great ensemble work along with good playing by all members. This remastered album is very nice and features restored cover art, great sound quality, and lots of informative liner notes.
