Krzysztof Duda - Altus

Artist: Krzysztof Duda
P: 1985 / 2023
If you like the Peru CDs from the 80s, you will definatly like this Cd in the same style!

Krzysztof Duda in the 1980s was a leading supplier of electronic music on the domestic market. Despite this, the wider public does not fully recognize him. This is probably the fault of the then television, which was not used to signing who was behind the soundtracks to its programs. And yet such programs as the famous "Poll" or "Halo Komputer" would not gain much if not for the futuristic background music. The Altus album is therefore a sentimental journey into the 1980s. Krzysztof Duda avoided debts, opted for short and expressive forms. Stimulated straight from electro pop, it collided with the synthetic beats of contemporary drum machines and primitive computers. This is evidently a "retro" school, a sound that was considered modern in the 1980s, but today it has become painfully old. This album is evidently reminiscent of values, Duda is remembered as the one who successfully tuned into contemporary electronics. However, on the days of declining communism in the 1980s, this music was not spared. For those who like to remember.

Krzysztof Duda - Chillout City Lights Zone

Artist: Krzysztof Duda
P: 2016

Krzysztof Duda is the eminence grise of Polish electronic music. In his explorations, he also explored the rarely visited territories of sacred music. In the 1980s, his music was featured on the popular science program Sonda. In 2012, he shifted towards Berlin electronica. The album Chillout City Lights Zone was recorded slightly earlier, in 2008. Despite the title, Krzysztof Duda doesn't get bogged down in the depths of ambient monotony; rather, he has different ideas for chillout electronica. He often looks back to extract fragments of individual styles and build his own sound world based on them. Thus, we have fragments of café atmospheres akin to the work of Wanda Warska. Duda's dynamic world is full of strained references to jazz rock, funky, and fusion. It turns out that at Chillout City Lights Zone, there are the fewest static landscapes and the most lively and pulsating audio sphere.

Krzysztof Duda - Chillout Energetic Avenue

Artist: Krzysztof Duda
P: 2008

It's nice to hear something retro every now and then. Krzysztof Duda, one of the Polish pioneers of electronic music, returns to the musical realms of the 1980s with his 2008 album Chillout Energetic Avenue. A fan of the melodic variety of the genre, on Chillout? the composer presents 13 dance themes encapsulated in short, compact, and analog compositions. Some of them would be perfect for a dance party. For example, Regular People and Remember the Time are elegant, song-inflected compositions that have a touch of the spirit of Andrzej Zaucha's "Bąś serca bijam" (You Were Heart Beating) or Kombi's "Memories from the Plein Air." For more energetic tracks, Krzysztof Duda also ventured into the techno style "Energetic Avenue." Some themes evoke the dynamic motifs of the soundtrack to the film "Football Poker" (Life is Life, Industrial Society, Energy, Close to Traffic). Chillout Energetic Avenue has a certain charm, but overall it's an average album. Krzysztof Duda presents a few interesting moments that are catchy and even enjoyable to listen to, but only for a short while.

Krzysztof Duda - Deep Sea

Artist: Krzysztof Duda
P: 2014

The Deep Sea album released in 2014, contains 14 fully original songs. For Duda, not only space is important, but he also pays attention to other aspects in his compositions. Despite the somewhat romantic cover, synthetic coolness dominates, just like in the famous robots from Kraftwerk. But not only that, Duda also ventures into the territories of "berlin school", he is also no stranger to the rhythmic element in the spirit of electro. As a result, the Deep Sea album can act as a "home soundtrack", and it can also be used in some part on the club floor. When Duda slows down, he tries to be as moody as Vangelis. The Deep Sea album is therefore a multi-colored fusion of electronic sounds, there are no surprises, but the pleasure of listening is great.

Krzysztof Duda - Live

Artist: Krzysztof Duda
P: 1984 / 2018

Pulsating arpeggiators, Moog's lyrical solos and surprising classical music inspirations, closed in the intricate textures of polyphonic synthesizers. In the mid-1980s, Krzysztof Duda created extensive suites that still make a great impression today. Time to rediscover them. Many short, electronic works by Krzysztof Duda were used as illustrations in television and radio programs in the 1980s. However, this is only part of his rich work - in the same decade, the artist also toured Poland with concerts in churches, where he presented extensive electronic forms of Vivit Olim Homo and Joyful Meditation, sometimes combined with other themes. Sometimes he supplemented the sounds of synthesizers with pipe organs, but sometimes he used only his own instruments - this was the case with the two recitals, which were recorded in 1984-85. Now, discovered years later, they come back in the form of a plate complementing the image of this excellent artist from the Tri-City. Both suites were ripped from original analog tapes and remastered by the artist in his own studio.

Krzysztof Duda - Meditatio Laeta

Artist: Krzysztof Duda
P: 2025

Here is the material recorded intermittently throughout the 80s, now extracted from the private archive of a Tri-City musician, better known as an organist. This album is an example of music performed on synthesizers, but actually "not electronic". I will explain this apparent paradox: while the sound layer is indeed synthesizers, compositionally it is primarily organ music, classical, and in some pieces pop. There is no fascination with sound and repetitions typical of classical electronic music or the Berlin school, here it is fully usable, you get the impression as if keyboards had just been added to the recording, but the artist could probably have recorded it on a completely different set of instruments. A similar approach was taken in the past by projects such as Cusco, Dancing Fantasy or Mikołaj Hertel.

Krzysztof Duda - Ostinato

Artist: Krzysztof Duda
P: 1980 / 2023

The long-awaited documentation of Krzysztof Duda's earliest artistic explorations is a journey into the world of funky clavinet sounds, a lively rhythm section and the extraordinary beauty of the melody. Thirteen recordings from 1980-83, including the cult song "W styl punk" sung by Jolanta Rados and the composer. Krzysztof Duda made his first solo, original recording - "Same trio after three" - in March 1980. It was followed by subsequent compositions in which electronic instruments were complemented by a live rhythm section. Although in the following years Duda became known as one of the masters of Polish electronic music, at the beginning of the decade he proposed works on the border between funk, pop and easy listening, full of charming melodies, jazz harmonies and the then fresh sounds of synthesizers. Some of the songs ("Letter with confessions", "Music market") may have resembled Kombi's work, but this is only one element of a larger puzzle: "Słodyczy noc" fits into the lyrical side of Polish pop music of that period (see Mikołaj Hertel or Eugeniusz Banachowicz ), and the title "Ostinato" hypnotizes with the lush sound of synthesizers and swinging solo parts. The album's program is complemented by three songs with lyrics by Anna Sawicka, performed by Jolanta Rados - including "W styl punk" (with the composer's vocal participation!), which is experiencing its second youth on YouTube after many years. The "Ostinato" program consisted of ten compositions recorded in the years 1980-83, of which only one ("Same three after three") had previously been available on CD. The whole thing was remastered by the composer from the original tapes. The CD version contains three additional songs. The album is a continuation of the releases "Altus", "Live" and "For Better Sound", supplementing the history of the artist's achievements with the earliest recordings in his career.
