Zanov is one of the great electronic musicians of France of the past and present! Zanov is really Pierre Salkazanov who recorded three albums of electronic music between 1976 and 1983, Green Ray was the very first. He takes a spacy, minimalist approach, utilizing an ARP 2600 plus a VCS-3.

Enigmatic, surreal, futuristic and deeply mysterious are the keywords to best describe Zanov’s 3rd album “In Course Of Time”. Legendary French synthesist Zanov, aka Pierre Salkazanov, already started work on this landmark album before his last concert in Villebon (near Paris) in June 1978, followed by some significant changes in 1979. The tracks of the classic recording ended up on different tapes, the first composition being “Sky Energy”, followed by “Lost message” “Phantasm”, “Infinitude”, and the title track “In course of time”. In the creative process, Zanov made extensive use of the VCS3, ARP2600 & RMI Harmonic Synthesizer (at that time he didn’t yet have the Korg PS3300) and recorded the outcome on the TEAC3340S. The music on each of the five tracks turns out as Zanov’s most advanced and accomplished effort until then. Just after the end of his 5-year contract in December 1981, all music finally fitted the bill according the composer. The recording was eventually released on vinyl in 1982 on the French Ondes-label and the Canadian Les Disques Solaris.

All in all, “In Course Of Time” is a journey through the ever expanding universe of electronic sounds, ending up as brilliant, innovative and ahead of its time.

FUTURE, which is the musical translation of his questioning about the future. This new
album reflects the convergence of technological advancements and human experience,
creating a captivating fusion of futuristic sounds and melodic elements. It suggests
a sense of adventure, uncertainty and the enigmatic nature of what lies ahead.

Zanov, strongly influenced by his own scientific background, always attempted to connect some scientific concepts such as chaos theory, fractals and complexity theory with his music. Its influence appeared in 1977 while experimenting with some three counts patterns sequencers that changed almost unnoticed to four counts pattern sequences and reverse. This process made Zanov think of the Moebius endless loop which shifts unnoticed from one face to the other and appears as the album’s cover art.
“Moebius 256301” continues the soundscapes introduced on “Green Ray” with new melodic elements creating another immersive aural experience, this is its brief history. In December 1976 Zanov expanded his synthesizer set up with a new ARP2600 with sequencer. 1977 shaped up as a busy year expanding Zanov’s musical realm with a series of live performances and more instruments offering new musical possibilities. “An Zero” was the first composition completed for Moebius while preparing for his first live concert at the Paris Laser Olympia in March 1977.
After “Green Ray”, the record label requested shorter compositions to promote the album and from a dozen sound sketches only “Moebius 256301” and “Enygma” ended up on the album. During a live tour in June 1977 Zanov purchased the RMI Harmonic synthesiser used for the first time during the Paris Planetarium concerts which also inspired his personal favourite composition “Plenitude”, the only album track the RMI was used on. “Moebius 256301” was completed eventually at the end of 1977 setting the scene for more concerts in the following year and for the follow-up album “In Course of time”, but that’s another story... P.S. The 40th anniversary cd-release contains “Moebius 256” in its original long version as a bonus, for which Zanov applied both the EMS VCS3 and ARP 2600. Bert Strolenberg/SonicImmersion.org
