Founder of ASH RA TEMPEL are Manuel Göttsching (guitar), Harmut Enke (bass) and Klaus Schulze (ex-Tangerine Dream) (drums), after purchasing Pink Floyd's sound equipment in London in 1971.

Ash Ra Tempel - Ash Ra Tempel (Japan)

Artists: Ash Ra Tempel
P: 1971 / 2010
The first Ash Ra Temple release. The first song is a long, crude, pedestrian, psychedelic jam that makes BLUE CHEER seem like jimi hendrix. the other song is a quieter ambient piece that's something special. Often there's a very good reason an album (cd) is obscure, this is!

Conny Plank was the producer and Klaus Schulze was also on electronics and on percussion and drums.
Here the Japan Mini LP Cover version remastered.

Ash Ra Tempel - Join Inn (Japan)

Artists: Ash Ra Tempel
P: 1973 / 2010
Join Inn features just two tracks - Freak n Roll feels like a 20 minute jam/improvisation and has Manuel Gottsching in absolutely blistering form. Meandering themes merge and blend in magical fashion, effortlessly coaxed forth from the strings of his guitar. Manic, pounding drums and breakneck-paced bass-work all combine into a miraculous whole. In sections, it sounds like each musician is wandering off doing his own thing. Then, suddenly, delightfully, it all comes together, forging a masterpiece greater than the sum of its parts, which leaves the listener drained but satisfied.
Jenseits ('Beyond'), is one of my all-time favourite cosmic/ambient chill-out tracks. Whilst the first track was guitar-dominated, the beautiful musical landscape of Jenseits is built primarily by keyboard. Building slowly, complemented by Rosi's achingly beautiful words, this is the musical equivalent of an out-of-body experience (which, from what I can understand of the German lyrics) is what was intended. When Rosi sighs "Nimm mich mit" (take me with you), you will want to go!

Comes in a CD-sized papersleeve album replica, with obi-strip and insert of notes mostly in Japanese.

Ash Ra Tempel - Schwingungen (Remastered)

Artists: Ash Ra Tempel
P: 1972 / 2011
Here the new remastered version made by Manuel Goettsching.
Second release of legendary krautrock-trio (albeit no longer a trio: drummer Klaus Schulze has temporarily left to be replaced by new drummer + vocalist + sax-player). Just like debut clear distinction between hard rocking a.side and dreamy b.side (vynil of course) Light is distorted blues and Darkness is psychedelic space-rock. Vocals maybe not everyone's cup-of-tea but I think it suits the music. Suche&Liebe starts of very quiet with nice vibes, followed by a drumsolo (courtesy of In-a-gadda-da-vida) to end rather majestic Pink Floyd-style. Overall not the statement the debut was,but in retrospect a krautrock-classic still.

Ash Ra Tempel - Seven Up (Remastered)

Artists: Ash Ra Tempel
P: 1972 / 2011
This is the new remastered version made by Manuel Goettsching.
This is Ash Ra Tempel's third CD which was played for the Walpurgisnacht. Join on a musical journey through "Space" and "Time" as the New Age group Ash Ra Tempel captures the movements of these two medleys, including the beauty of this timeless recording. Timothy Leary, known for his drugs experiments joined this project too. Sometimes it sounds like a liverecording more in the Krautrock sheme.

Ash Ra Tempel - Starring Rosi (Japan)

Artists: Ash Ra Tempel
P: 1973 / 2010
Starring Rosi, is a less intense album, but with a great feel-good atmosphere and amply demonstrates the startling changes of style this band would go through. Laughter Loving has an upbeat bouncy atmosphere with some great fluid guitar from Gottsching. Day-Dream is a gentle psychedelic vision with Rosi's vocals painting some beautiful images. Schizo is a slow instrumental that features the classic Gottsching lonely guitar sound over dreamy wah-wah rhythms and is probably my favourite track on the album. Cosmic Tango is a deceptively simple tune which builds into a great guitar-piece over a thumping tango beat. Interplay of Forces starts with Rosi reciting some poetic lyrics alternately in German and English and then melds into a really joyous guitar outro. The Fairy Dance is a quite delicate instrumental, with a vaguely folksy/celtic feel to it. Bring Me Up closes the album in brilliant style, with a rocking memorable theme and great guitar accompaniment.

Comes in a CD-sized papersleeve album replica, with obi-strip and insert of notes mostly in Japanese.

Manuel Goettsching - Inventions for Electric Guitar (Remastered)

Artist: Manuel Göttsching
P: 1974 / 2011

This is the new remastered version by Manuel Goettsching of the classic release.
No keyboards just the magic of Gottchings electric guitar, you can hear thousands of sounds from his 6 string gadget and unbelievably succesful. Even the guitar sequencers are pulsating. If you think these are just tape loops and sounds of like an electric saw that is a Fripp trademark, well you are mistaken, this is like Baumann and Schmoelling Tangerine Dream- heavy, angry and rocking.

Manuel Goettsching - Live at MT. Fuji

Artist: Manuel Göttsching
P: 2007

Even if some titles may sound familiar, they are not what you know. Manuel arranged them in a totally new way.
The album opens with "Sunrain" which was originally from the 1976 classic "New Age of Earth". The familiar hypnotic sequencer pattern is already in place however on this new version, Manuel takes it in a slightly different direction and extends the piece to nearly 15-minutes.
"Saint and Sinner" is a more recent piece which was originally heard on the 2004 release "Concert For Murnau". This laid back piece is taken a step up from its studio counterpart as Manuel adds a bluesy Clapton-esque guitar lead that wasn't there before.
"Trunky Groove" is a brand new piece composed for this concert and is a showcase for the psychedelic music style that was the norm for Manuel back in his very early days in Ash Ra Tempel. A techno-style rhythm is accompanied by a long drone and intense orchestrations before giving way to an effects-drenched guitar solo.
"Die Mulde" is a 20-minute excerpt from Manuel's long-form 1997 piece of the same name. It begins with the "Die Spiegel" section of the piece and shifts into the closing "Zerfluss" movement. As with "Saint and Sinner", Manuel adds a guitar lead which wasn't in the original version.
Finally, to close the album, we have yet another arrangement of the classic "Shuttlecock" which originally is from the 1978 masterwork "Blackouts". The arrangement is similar to the 1976 live version that appeared on the 1996 CD set "The Private Tapes" but definitely has a modern twist. Manuel's guitar playing is up front and center here and is stellar - almost like taking a trip back to the mid 70s.
