Artist: Parklake P: 2015 Terraforming! Deliberately modifying the atmosphere and ecology to make it habitable by earth-like life. Terraforming develops from the dawn of Techno and Electronica towards exciting melodic textures that could well be the soundtrack of a scifi movie. A very particular feeling of atmospheric warmth meets depth intense harmony on the second album by German producer and songwriter Thomas Mattern, aka Parklake. ‘Terraforming’ contains 12 prime examples for groovy and melodic arrangements, including 4 bonus tracks. 2 of them are remixes from Kay Piranha (Heidelberg) and Brahminy Kite (Singapore) . The title track ‘Terraforming’ kicks off with a pumping bass line and moves into a melodic spacy hook, paying homage to Kraftwerk.‘Beat Creation’ combines various rhythmic schemas with a slight touch of experimental and classical string parts.‘Stay Behind’ is based on a single-note bass, originally played by the 8 year old Merlin Mattern, and processed into a low frequency bass. Catch the stellar sounds layered on top of the track! Now it’s time for ‘Herbst’, a minimal Techno piece, inspired by the German poem ‘Der Herbst steht auf der Leiter’ by Peter Hacks (1928-2003). Do you hear the leaves falling from the trees? Downtempo-beats come with ‘Bowling Green’, which brings us back in time to electronic arts pioneers like Tangerine Dream and Wolfgang Riechmann, opening up the space for string and brass arrangements on top of mellow arpeggiator sounds. The humans enter the planet at Heddonfield Illinois, fictionary birthplace of Michael Myers from John Carpenters x movie Helloween. There is breathing and slashing around a synthesized Moog sound you can dance too.Acoustic instruments appear on the last song “Slide”, after the earth is shaped. Main vocalist Daniela Menger is backed-up by Tanja Wingerter, both singing to the lyrics written by Phil Hofmann. You hear an intense analogue bass played by Axel Kipphan, which finalizes the “earth-shaping”.
