Keith Emerson - Honky

Artist: Keith Emerson
P: 1981 / 1999

Emerson recorded HONKY in the Bahamas and in 1983 it was the second LP released on his Chord label. The first, in 1981, had been NIGHTHAWKS. Neil Symonette (drums) and Kendall Stubbs (bass), who assist him here, had also worked on that film score project. This is a good album and belongs in every Emerson fan's collection.  The highlights are the 3-part "Hello Sailor" suite and "Chickcharnie", an instrumental version of "Nighthawking".

Keith Emerson - Off the Shelf

Artist: Keith Emerson
P: 2006
Off the Shelf is an interesting package of different recordings Keith has collected from over the years. Most of these have been bootlegged before but here you get them in a cleaned up nicely mastered package. An inclusion of Abaddon's Bolero recorded by an orchestra along with Keith on synthesizer is pretty good. (I still chuckle when Greg Lake's bass line goes from cello to tuba.) Along with that there is a studio demo version of Pictures at an Exhibition that is all Keith going through the first 3 movements. There is also a great rendition of America featuring Keith and Pat Travers!

Keith Emerson - The Christmas Album

Artist: Keith Emerson
P: 1995

From the fingers that fused 'Tarkus'; from the mind that molded maniacal music with keyboard molestations; from the honky who helped heave huge pianos end over end... comes one of the most creative Christmas albums of all time. There are incredible arrangements included within this collection as well as stellar performances from the premiere key-meister of our time. The album closes with the most soulful version of 'Silent Night' that you will ever hear. Keith has been called every name in the book from genius to prodigy to legend. Listen to this album, though and get lost in the inherent soulfulness of the season. Then call Emerson the bringer of peace-filled tidings.
