David Wright - Sines Of Life (Volume 1)

Artist: David Wright, Ian Boddy, Robert Fox & Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock
P: 2009
"Sines of Life (Vol. 1) is David's 20th solo CD release in a career that spans more than 20 years and the album has been something of a labour of love, as explained in the informative 16 page booklet.
It contains new studio material alongside imaginative live re-workings of classic David Wright  compositions from concerts during 2007 and 2009 featuring guest musicians, and it's no understatement to say that it's a majestic tour de force of instrumental new age electronica.
The perennial favorite "Walking with Ghosts" is replayed as a brand new arrangement that is simply sublime and features another UK synth luminary Ian Boddy on keyboards and German guitar legend Klaus Hoffmann Hook, who also plays the Memotron.
Another beautiful reworking is "Beyond Paradise", this time featuring Hoffmann-Hoock on electric sitar, while "Just an Illusion" and "State of Bliss" are again completely new imaginings of the original album tracks that here feature stunning cosmic guitar work from Hoffmann-Hoock.
The remaining songs include the atmospheric piano based title piece, a previously unreleased live track featuring Robert Fox & Nigel Turner-Heffer titled "3 a.m." and a new interpretation of David's popular epic "Cassini" recorded at his 2007 USA concert.
The production is superb and with a running time of over 78 minutes this fitting anniversary album provides both quality and quantity. If you're already familiar with the work of David Wright, then this album really is a "must have" because the reworked live tracks are significantly different from the originals to differentiate this set from a traditional "Greatest Hits" compilation. If you're not and you're into good quality, melodic and emotive electronic music, then "Sines of Life" has more than enough quality to warrant your investigation and ensure your interest.
An album that's destined to run and run and a terrific addition to an already impressive catalogue.

David Wright - Stranger Days
Artist: Robert Fox, Klaus Hoffmann-Hook & David Wright
P: 2018

While it was originally intended to be straightforward compilation (and is listed as a Best of Vol 3 in some places), it evolved into a journey; a journey through sound and styles reflecting the luminaries of the electronic music genre whose music influenced David and shaped his music since his first album in 1989.
So as a result, it includes a lot of new and previously unreleased music alongside re-recordings of a handful of tracks, so ‘Stranger Days’ is a retrospective in terms of influences and styles.
It has been a labour of love, taking 18 months to complete. It incorporates music from live performances, studio sessions (in some instances overlooked and forgotten!) and reworked tracks and remixes.does contains a lot of new and previously unreleased music. The epic 60 minute title track, for example, is a studio re-imagining of new electronic music originally recorded live at E-Scape 2015 and previously unreleased studio recordings. There are other new tracks recorded between 2012 and 2018, some featuring the beautiful voice of Carys, alongside re-workings of older (some might say obscure?) tracks like ‘Colours of the Night’,  ‘Glass Mountains’ (also featuring Carys) and more. It also features previously unreleased music with Robert Fox and Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock.

Robert Fox + David Wright - Before Time

Artist: Robert Fox & David Wright
P: 2002/2003 / 2009

The original studio recordings for "Timecode" includes previously unreleased music and is a fascinating insight into the writing process, showing how the original compositions differ from the eventual Code Indigo album. There is a real spontaniety and live feel that makes it all wonderfully compelling. The 14 "BT" tracks and "Timecode Exodus" are interlinked to produce one drifting electronic space music epic. Here are the original, sometime quite inspired instrumental music performances of tracks like "24am" and "Call of the Earth", plus additional pieces and alternate versions and arrangements. This collection shows just how prolific Wright & Fox were during this period and is a worthy companion to the "TimeCode" album itself.

Robert Fox + David Wright - Blue

Artist: Robert Fox & David Wright
P: 2001
Sensational Code Indigo performance from the 1998 Derby Cathedral concert, showcasing a band on the very top of their form. Great interplay between synths and guitar, oodles of atmosphere and feeling, this really is a classic! Includes reworking of classic tracks plus materiel unavailable anywhere else. Most importantly though, the Code Indigo style is very difficult to categorize. Instrumental Pink Floyd? Enigma?? Steve Roach??? In the Nursery???? They combine elements of all of these and yet, basically, they sound like, well.... Code Indigo. And that  is the mark of something a bit special.

Limited edition 4 CD box set featuring: -
CD 1 - David Wright's - Hypnosis
CD 2 - Robert Fox's - Stuff of Dreams
CD 3 - Wright & Fox - Blue

Robert Fox - Adonai

Artist: Robert Fox
P: 2008

After his long association with the theatre, at last, a Robert Fox soundtrack materializes as a Digital/CD release. And as a theatre soundtrack precipitated the start of his involvement with electronic music, then it's fitting that such a stunningly original work should bring us full circle.

The music on Adonai was created to accompany some very powerful imagery and action and it will do the same in the mind of the listener. But don't be put off by the "soundtrack" tag, Adonai is a "complete" album, deliberately emotive and hugely cinematic in places, and typically Robert Fox at his boldest and most creative.

Uplifting and highly atmospheric music, full of alluring soundscapes that wouldn't be out of place in a futuristic sci-fi movie like Blade Runner.

Robert Fox - Asfafa 2

Artist: Robert Fox
P: 2014
This new version is a complete re-record of that epic album with 10 minutes of new music added. Non of the mystique or the wonderful feel has been lost and the resulting ‘ASFAFA 2’ is, in our opinion, a classic em album for the 21st century.

Robert Fox’s debut album ‘Asfafa - A Journey’, released in 1991, was considered by many to be a classic of the electronic music genre and the seminal Robert Fox album.
The recording of ASFAFA 2 was a labour of love by the artist and the reimagining of this classic album scales new heights. Robert Fox cleverly stays true to the original while at the same time he makes minor enhancements and adds new music that sits perfectly alongside the original tracks. Fans will be delighted that the ‘Journey’ feel and indeed the very ‘mystique’ that surrounded the original Asfafa album remains perfectly intact on ASFAFA 2.

Robert Fox is one of the few musicians who, with his early works in particular, creates melodic, grandiose sound on a scale to rival Vangelis, but with his own identity shining through. ‘ASFAFA 2' is a welcome reminder of those heady days and a stunning re-recording that has now made it a classic album for the 21st Century as well!

Robert Fox - Blue Mountains Suite

Artist: Robert Fox
P: 199
3

Most people would preserve memories of a trip to Australia via photographs, slides or even a video. Well Robert Fox goes one stage further with this CD which derives its inspiration from the aforementioned visit made during the summer of 1991. Robert describes it as "...very much a Westerner's musical interpretation of the visit...but in no way an attempt to emulate Aboriginal music or, indeed, their culture". 'Spirit of Oz' opens in typically grandiose fashion, percussive Aboriginal samples forming the backdrop to a deceptively strong melody which makes good use of light and shade. 'Sydney Harbour' adopts a lighter stance with a simple motif played over all manner of superb atmospherics. 'Into the Mountains' picks up the pace expertly being a perfect combination of sequence, percussion and melody punctuated by samples of train station announcements which trace the journey it portrays. More atmospherics lead into 'Three Sisters' and the theme which runs through this track, I believe, represents a creative peak for Robert - it is quite simply tremendous. The 'second side' opens with 'Painted Desert' which comes across as a slightly more subdued, almost ominous, sounding piece. The magnificent title track follows and the powerful piano lead and sweeping synths punctuated by thunderous drums make this piece an inspiration. 'White Man Dreaming' returns to the slightly more restrained formula hinted at on 'Painted Desert', and again the fantastic melody and perfect atmospherics produce another awesome high point. 'Farewell Blue Mountains' winds up with the return journey to that made on 'Into the Mountains' and is another epic voyage through high power melodics. On this album Robert Fox shows that the rich seam of inspiration displayed on his two previous albums shows no signs of diminishing. It is a stunning example of sonic imagery at its best and an undoubted essential purchase for collectors of quality Electronic Music.

Robert Fox - Cathedral

Artist: Robert Fox
P: 2017

After an absence of 4 years, Robert Fox is back with a stunningly original  opus that will appeal to his core fans, and will also find favour with lovers of darker, ambient styled atmospheric music. ‘Cathedral’ started life as a theatre soundtrack, but edited together it is transformed into an epic, drifting soundscape that works well within a Gothic and atmospheric genre.
The music perfectly reflects so many things about cathedrals in general, their atmospheres from the dark to the peaceful and serene, while also reflecting peaceful times, turbulent times and the awe inspiringly ceremonial. Cathedral contains some beautiful themes linked together with dark effects and atmospherics and while it is not a typical Robert Fox album, it certainly reflects a typical Robert Fox soundtrack. Awesome!

Robert Fox - Evergreen

Artist: Robert Fox
P: 2008

The early albums of Robert Fox, in particular his journey style albums, conjured up visions of faraway places with epic soundscapes that somehow captured the essence of places like Canada and Australia on "A Gathering of Spirits" and "Blue Mountains Suite", or mythical and personal journeys on classic albums like "Asfafa", "The Fire and the Rose" and "Into the Light." In recent years, Robert Fox has released a diverse selection of albums that has seen his music develop to encompass darker shades in his soundtrack music, but he also developed a gentler, more accessible and melodic side to his compositions that began to appear on the excellent "Talking Heads" and developed through to the more recent "Touching the Serpents Tail" and that has now matured magnificently on "Evergreen". Make no mistake, "Evergreen" is a majestic tour de force from Robert Fox. A stunningly beautiful and evocative album, full of emotion and a whole load of memorable and haunting themes that re-affirms his status as one of the UK finest electronic musicians.

"My sleevenotes to a 1993 Fox album of glorious, sonorous synth sounds stated that “this is music to lift the spirits, stir the soul… and humble Vangelis”. Since then, Robert hasn’t quite maintained those Olympian heights but Evergreen is a return to form. A fond, expressive evocation of England, Evergreen is bursting with rich, tuneful melodies, some romantic and rhythmical which lavishly lay on the grandeur, others ethereal and choral, blissfully tripping through New Age atmospheres."

Robert Fox - House of Chimes

Artist: Robert Fox
P: 2020

‘House of Chimes’ is a brand new studio album, an album that Robert himself would probably tell you was something of a surprise, something he really wasn’t expecting – wasn’t his 2019 release ‘Phoenix Rising’ his swan song? And yet, here we are, deep into 2020 and Robert Fox still has something relevant to say! Let us be clear…’House of Chimes’ is a very deep, dare we say, “dark” album…it is not your usual Robert Fox fare. It’s a far cry from ‘Asfafa’ or ‘Blue Mountains’…it has a dark intensity which takes a few listens to get into. But, if you’re prepared to give it a few listens you will discover a very rewarding experience. The usual Robert Fox ‘big chords’ are in evidence, but for the most part everything is at a regal pace, unhurried and punctuated regularly with treated instrumental vocal refrains that are both thought provoking and evocative. The music drifts but it drifts with a purpose that becomes more apparent with each new listen. A couple of tracks hark back to Code Indigo days, highlighting catchy percussive rhythms – the excellent ‘Devil’s Puzzle’ (check out the video) and the catchy base line and accompaniment on ‘Dark Mirror’. This is an album that some may feel will resonate with the times, as epitomised by track 5 ‘Lockdown’. It is technically, probably, the best Robert Fox album to date with exceptionally high production values and we believe time will show as his most involving and most creative.
