Traumklang

The group Traumklang features different musicians throughout the time. But Carola Zauchner is always the core of the group. Somtimes other musicians like Pete Farn (Peter Schäfer) or Frank Klare (Synco) join the group.

Frank Klare - Electronic Impressions

Artist: Frank Klare
P: 1995
After departing SYNCO Frank joined the band Traumklang hence the final track of this album ‘Galactic Drive’ which is attributed to Traumklang. The opener ‘Legend of the Mount’ is about as far removed from SYNCO’s trademark sequencer runs as you can get. A simple theme is picked out initially on piano, then synths accompanied by a steady rhythm. The next track is a decent synth/drums workout and this "modern" theme is prevalent throughout many of the tracks with some such as ‘Close of Time’ working very well. Others though are best forgotten and its not until the penultimate track ‘Sequence Spheres’ (taken from the afore-mentioned ‘Solodreams’) that Frank Klare shows anything like his old SYNCO form. The 15 minute ‘Galactic Drive’ is a superb closing piece with some great sequencing and finely balanced melodics. Sounds like the Traumklang album may well be worth hearing. (GG)

Frank Klare - Transcental Medicatin

Artist: Frank Klare
P: 1995
This time Frank Klare has "realised my favour for sequences. I haven’t played any moog solo voices to force the original effects of the dynamically developing sequences". The 16½ minute opener ‘Impression of Arkana’ builds slowly on a simple sequence. It is most successful after the midpoint at which stage a bass sequence is introduced, however it never strays far from the opening riff and after 10 minutes it becomes heavy going. Not much relief is afforded by track 2 ‘Schräger Otto’ which consists of a repetitive discordant theme, however the 18 minute ‘Homage to K.S.’ follows and here things do brighten up considerably. Some classic sequencing is on show which ebbs and flows to powerful effect, and it’s very easy to imagine frenetic Schulzian accompaniment. ‘Dream’ presents a slowly repeating theme for a gargantuan 25 minutes, accompanied by subliminal effects and delicate sequences. Another Traumklang collaboration ends the album and again it’s a very impressive piece with some exciting sequencer runs and fine complementary soloing. (GG)

Traumklang - A Planet's Symphony

Artist: Traumklang
P: 1996/ 2006
This SynGate re-release focuses mainly on the new cover artwork. Carola Kern is the mastermind behind Traumklang. So the former solo character of this album was replaced simply by Traumklang. The original CD is still included, but the cover design is adapted to the other Traumklang releases.

All the tracks on this album were recorded and mixed using analog equipment. It seems that Carola set out to produce an album which had a "hands on, organic" feel and in this respect she has certainly succeeded. The opening 4 pieces are titled 'Movement 1 - 4' and vary in length between 22½ minutes and 4 minutes, and the music is characterised by long drawn out textures of sound. Droning synths and elongated pads merge seamlessly, creating some great atmospheric images. There is not a sequence or lead melody in sight. This is ambient music in its pure form.
No beats, no rhythms, just drifting soundscapes to keep you company - though the feelings generated are often ones of isolation. The sound is often spiced up with excellent effects and noises, picked out in classic oscillating fashion. Comparisons are many. Ian Boddy's 'Continuum' often comes to mind, and some parts could easily pass for unsequenced AirSculpture. The music does bring to mind a journey away from our planet, and fans of Space Music in its raw form should find the trip very satisfactory. (GG)

Traumklang - Die Legende von Samandaria

Artist: Traumklang
P: 1989 / 2017

Released on vinyl 1989 (Woodberry Records), CD-r 2001 and now HQ-CDR re-release 2017.
"Die Legende von Samandaria" is a typical release from the late 80s that takes up the desire of phantasies about a better world in contradiction to the sobering sounds of New Wave at theses times. Musically this is expressed by compositions in a style between Krautrock and Kraftwerk.
The former vinyl album is not available anymore as well as the CD-r re-release in 2001, so Carola Zauchner (née Kern) decided to give this album a rebirth to prevent a loss of this composition 28 years later.

Traumklang - Natural Phenomenons

Artist: Traumklang
P:  2006
All the tracks on this album were recorded and mixed using analog equipment. It seems that Carola Zauchner former Kern set out to produce an album which had a "hands on, organic" feel and in this respect she has certainly succeeded. Especially track 2 which is a 'live' studiorecording without any further mixing; natural electronic music - a phenomenon.

Traumklang - Raumzeit

Artist: Traumklang
P: 1998/ 2009
Join Carola Kern's and Frank Klare's Raumzeit with an hour space-music and a quarter of an hour sequencer-music. Finally after 10 years, the CD is available again with a stunning Bonustrack.
The first track is a real drift into space, with a lot of noise and floating sounds.

Traumklang - Strange Worlds

Artist: Traumklang
P: 2013

With the new 2013 album "Strange Worlds" Carola Zauchner invites to a musical spacejourney to visit strange worlds, comets, planets and stars.

Traumklang uses the following instruments:

Roland D10 multitimbral Synthesizer
Yamaha SS30 String-Synthesizer
Casio sample Player
Farfisa compact duo-organ
Casio mini-Synthesizer
Yamaha PSS Keyboard
Yamaha DD50 drums
Roland Juno60 Synthesizer
Roland Jupiter4 Synthesizer
historic Magnus organ

Carola Zauchner always was interested in  astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology. So she tried to give those phenonemons a musical shape, although this is not possible in reality, as all events in space are without any noise. You will never hear a supernova acoustically, but only receive its waves via radiotelescope and transform this into audiosignals. Voyager spacecraft recorded such spacewaves and broadcasted them back to earth. You find such material released in most fascinating CDs from NASA. The original electronic music is created in space! And Traumklang tries to interpret such signals in own sounds.
