Wave World

Wave World is a Dutch/Canadian multimedia project, attracting quite a lot of attention for its fascinating music and enchanting shows. The members are: Gert van Santen (PBalris), Harry Kessels (Kgevenisandi), Rolf van Slooten (Safandjaro). During live performances, their impressive music is blended with computer-generated graphics of a virtual world, projected on a huge screen. Wave World's extraordinary music style can best be described as modern space music with dance influences. The enthralling shows carry the audience away to an alien world, that might exist in another time and another dimension.

Various Artists - Echoes Living Room Concerts Volume 8

Artist: Rich, Ciani, Waveworld...
P: 2002
Among the highlights of Volume 8 are performances by Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, and pianists Philip Aaberg and Suzanne Ciani. We hear the Dutch synthesizer trio Wave World taking a trip into space and a gamelan meditation by Shaman's Dream. There's a gentle Celtic aire by Solas and a lap steel guitar expanse from Robert Rich. World fusion ranges from Lumin to Ancient Future as well as Celtic harpist Lisa Lynne with the Persian Lian Ensemble. You'll hear the first harpsichord ever to be played live on Echoes with Richard Searles and a rare trio of guitarist David Cullen, oboist Jill Haley and bassist Michael Manring. The Echoes LRC 8 takes you to living rooms from Los Angeles to Philadelphia. Suzanne Ciani was recorded on the shores of Marin County and Wave World recorded on the floor of the Echoes living room.

Wave World - Another Strange Day On Gonxa

Artist: Wave World
P: 2002
Another Strange Day On Gonxa can be placed well beyond Wave World's existing works of melodic spacemusic. The mind and body are more in tune with "relatives" than with "absolutes" and this album deals with the pleasure in expectations made and met. With its rapid development, high energy and soaring synth leads, Another Strange Day On Gonxa exists out on the ill-examined border where Electronic Space and Intelligent Dance Musics meet.
With tens of thousands of neurons in our brains all firing together simultaneously - in time with the beat - we naturally have a physical response to music that has a strong persistant rhythm of 60 to 80 beats per minute. If the beat's too slow, our brains can't perceive the connection between beats, too fast and our neurons can't keep up. To their extreme credit, Wave World's music is a tonic for the mind - offering the best of both worlds. They are constantly exploring, searching, navigating the breathless silence of deep space, the drama of live performance and Humanity's hardwired cravings for stimulating music.

Wave World - Cloudseeder

Artist: Wave World
P: 2002
Cloudseeder is a double disc which, along with several other pieces, includes two sets of music realized on the STAR'S END Ambient Radio broadcast of 10.14.01. These tracks, both in the 30 minute range, demonstrate Wave World's great ability to improvise music as well as their vision as artists. Recorded live on the air, "Star's End Part I + II - Live" were experienced by Wave World as "time in the moment". They were not recreating an existing studio composition but attempting to realize something new and unique. For the musicians, there's just the time of the performance - each interaction carries a distinct power of its own. As for the audience, we must use of minds to create an internal representation, a tonal map to keep track of harmonic space. Elsewhere on the album, coming in at over 62 minutes, the track "Nebulae - An Ambient Symphony" is a piece so long that the sense of composition disappears. Without any real beginnings or endings to concern the listener, we can enjoy the time spent with this music where ever in the piece we find ourselves. Cloudseeder goes well beyond what is expected from this heretofore primarily rhythmic and melodic based group. Throughout the two volumes, Wave World's aural explorations travel amidst the dark corners and twilight realms of smooth spacemusic. These epic improvisations work on our physical and emotional perception of time; which is mutable and does not flow at the same even rate.

Wave World - Dimensions

Artist: Wave World
P: 2001
Through the effective use of their original sonic vocabulary and turbulent presentation on Dimensions, Wave World has created a three dimensional, cerebral listening experience. Strange timbres, detuned swells and random melodic figures demand the listener's attention through the endlessly shifting collage of sound while an overwhelming atmosphere of otherworldliness supplies the album length composition with form in space and time. But it's not all pads, sweeps, bleeps and effects. Out of the mysterious aural manifestations rise warm synth melodies over curious electronic rhythms. These friendly interludes offer a well placed respite from Wave World's aural alien abstraction which is continually falling away and folding back in on itself. With the convoluted contour of this album, the listener's attention never rests. We are completely present with full awareness during this deep sonic journey.

The music takes us to the far away world, where new species form. The music is a kind of long space ambient and some sort of species sounds. It reminds sometimes to the ambient CDs by Steve Roach.

Wave World - The Falls Of Varnal

Artist: Wave World
P: 2004
Wave World's first compilation album. With one exclusiv Track remixed by Klaus Schulze.
The Dutch multimedia project WAVE WORLD (Harry Kessels, Gert van Santen and Rolf van Slooten) presents the selection of their compositions.
Track 2 recorded live (with studio additions) on December 3, 1999, at the 3D-day, The Netherlands Film and Television Academy, Amsterdam.
The members of the trio share the passion for Electronic Music, computer graphics and science fiction. WAVE WORLD is a multinational phenomenon. They are in the avant-garde of XXI century world culture. The focus of their creative work saw many shifts within the framework of WAVE WORLD project, their music constantly morphed into new forms, surprising the audience used to the soft and peaceful ambient music with the blast of volcanic energy of club dance electronics. WAVE WORLD do not simply create music, they invent new cosmic civilization with exotic way of being, whimsical life forms and strange inhabitants, the civilization being not metaphorical but literally alive. Music is just a part of a huge complex including sci-fi animation and the breathtaking costumed visual light shows that are only vaguely felt in the music. WAVE WORLD spins your perception around: life beyond Earth - another galaxy is the natural environment for these extraterrestrial people.
And the new WAVE WORLD disc makes us believe it to be true with its infectious drive and its ability to stir the imagination.
