Meteor Musik
Meteor Musik was founded when The Chelyabinsk meteor (a superbolide caused by a near-Earth asteroid) entered Earth's atmosphere over Russia on 15 February 2013 at about 09:20 YEKT (03:20 UTC), with a speed of 19.16 +/- 0.15 kilometres per second (60,000 - 69,000 km/h or 40,000 - 42,900 mph). The light from the meteor was brighter than the Sun, even at 100 km distance. It was observed over a wide area of the region and in neighbouring republics. Eyewitnesses also felt intense heat from the fireball.
That day Tim Geelen, Joeri Wijnants and Micha Volders were composing electronic music in an old synthesizer studio from yesteryear. As the trio improvised and jammed, a way of working developed itself: programming and playing everything live while mixing and recording direct to Audio Tapes of five min length. This way they were forced to make decisions and arranging a song all within this five minute timeframe. The whole post process of mixing and editing is cut out and the results are vivid snapshots of improvised live tracks organised into little stories. Of course recordings were not always spot on because of the nature of this process, but the times that everything fell into place and the right knobs were tweaked at the right moment, a sense of magic exhaled through the music and out came tracks that ooze atmosphere and spontaneity. For this album, all those tapes were sorted out and the best jams were put together. The result is Asteriu, an electronic trip through a galaxy of sound, experienced from the front seat of an old Russian spaceship with a view to kill for.
Meteor Musik is explorer’s music, It’s human nature to probe, to search, to be adventurous, to challenge and learn... In the secret realm of their studio they can feel free and liberated from the everyday Western life, it’s bland uninspired surroundings and it’s rigid ways of thinking. It’s time to once again reach out to childhood dreams, to irresponsibly escape and wander through our fantasies from day to day.
