BatteryDead
BatteryDead is Christian Ahlers' electronic music project born in the year 2004 focused on chillout music with roots in the amiga demoscene, although he has published only one of his songs in a very little intro. When he got his first computer, a "Commodore Amiga 500" he soon searched for a music software, and with the legendary "soundtracker" he began composing music in 1987.
The sound system of the "A500" was stereo 8bit 28khz with 4 polyfonic voices and the CPU worked with only 7MHz clock. Because of these poor possibilities with the "A500" he upgraded to an "Amiga 3000" with 25MHz clock and from then he used the software "Octamed Soundstudio" for composing. This software was also usable as a simple midi-sequencer so he bought his first midi capable keyboard, a "Casio WK-1200".
The "WK-1200" had only very little editable synthesizer parameters so he decided to buy a "real" synthesizer, the "Yamaha CS1x". For a long time the "CS1x" has been the heart of his "studio" and some more synthesizers and effect processors were added. At present the "Yamaha Motif XS6" and a "Clavia Nordlead3" are his main instruments.
The reason why he decided to make chillout music was the television program "Space-Night" on German TV "Bayerisches Fernsehen", where you could see videos of space shuttle missions and other space related stuff at night time layered with great electronic music.
