Fous De La Mer - Ipanema

Artist: Fous De La Mer
P: 2008
Elektrolux e10100100cd
Bossa Nova is in the air. It was not left to chance that 'Ipanema', the third Fous de la Mer album, was published exactly 50 years after 'Chega de Saudade', the first Bossa Nova album by Gilberto. The title 'Ipanema' also clearly defines the stylistic frame and winkingly refers to the most famous hit by Gilberto ('The Girl from Ipanema'). Last but not least, the musical development towards traditional Latin-American music already became evident on the two previous Fous de la Mer albums ('Stars & Fishes' 2004, 'Ultramar' 2006) and the accordant live performances by Jean-Charles Vandermynsbrugge, Marko Bussian and Sol Ruiz de Galarreta. 'Without Bossa Nova and its groundbreaking alliance of Brazilian Samba und Cool Jazz , the development of modern lounge music would not have been impossible. During our live gigs, we discovered how close the spirit of our tracks is to classic Bossa Nova. But we also found out quickly that our classics such as 'Never Stop Loving' or 'Asi Vas' also work perfectly as modernised Bossa Nova tracks.' However, first things first: for more than five years, long-term producer and sound designer Marko Bussian (aka La.Mia.Bocca, Glissando Bros.), Jean-Charles Vandermynsbrugge of Southern France and the Argentina-born Sol Ruiz de Galaretta have been producing deeply touching sound escapisms about a day at the sea. By songs like 'Never Stop Loving', 'Ultramar' or 'Watersong', the three musicians who are now living on Ibiza paved the way towards a both modern and traditional understanding of a melancholic, elegant and sensitive variety of, well, pop music like hardly another contemporary ambient project. Last but not least, the step towards Bossa Nova is absolutely self-evident because of Sols unique vocals. 'Sol just has the perfect voice for Bossa Nova which is almost as soft, easy and soulful as the voice of famous Bebel Gilberto. Thus, we last year decided to just go into the studio to do some live recordings of our songs in traditional cast with vocals, guitar, piano, contrabass and percussions. This was the beginning of our acoustic journey finally leading directly to our new album after the 'Change The World'-Digital-EP.'
However, 'Ipanema' does not only feature known Fous de la Mer classics such as 'Conmigo', 'Never Stop Loving', 'Asi Vas', 'Ultramar' or 'Tu mirada' in a new but nevertheless strangely familiar Bossa Nova sound. 'Bossaliday' is an intensive song about the coming and going of friendship, but also about love. These are typical Bossa Nova topics recurring on deep Fous de la Mer interpretations of the Bossa classic 'Triste' by Antonio Carlos Jobim and the less known, longingly Brazilian ballad 'Coco Verde' by Teca Calazans und Ricardo Villa. In 'Bigger Love', the easy-going Mediterranean pop understanding of Fous de La Mer is continued. The title which stylistically reminds you of Fleetwood Mac (which had numerous hits in the 70ies and 80ies), also is like an atmospheric trip along the Côte d'Azur on its winding roads to Cannes or Saint Tropez. And even the interpretation of Pizzicato Five's 'The Night is still young' fits perfectly into the soundscape, in spite of or just because of the surprising Japanese vocals by Sol. 'It is amazing how alike Spanish and Japanese can be. And as Sol has always liked to perform the track live, this groovy version added perfectly to the album.' The deeply sensual summer romance of Bossa Nova is simply international.

Various Artists - The Beatless Collection Vol. 1

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2008
Elektrolux e10100000cd
When looking back on the development of electronic dance music during the past twenty years in fast forward mode, one of the few remaining constants is the beat: living metre of the club, catalyser of motor activity, heartbeat of the dancer. But why?
Meanwhile, the trendsetters of the current electronica scene follow a more differentiated approach. Pace and rhythmicity, the syncopic chords and sequences and, last but not least, deep emotional worlds of sound are positioning this new form of electronic dance music clearly in a club context without the bass drum playing her sometimes even crushing role. Finally, energetic tracks with musicality and sensual passion can be produced without drums very well. Now, Elektrolux mastermind Alex Azary applies himself to this phenomenon by the first and definitely ground-breaking compilation in the still young year 2008. This is just a logical consequence as Alex Azary, together with his co-producer Gabriel Le Mar, already anticipated a comparable sound aesthetics at his gigs at the UK cult club Orbit, Leeds, about ten years ago. This hybrid of club music and experimental electronics also characterizes the joint productions of Alex Azary and Gabriel Le Mar's brand new Subsonic Park project in terms of pace, deepness and the unterstanding of dub. On "the Beatless Collection", two tracks of the project can be found. The other compilation contributors are Kompakt producers Gui Boratto and Hiroshi Watanabe (aka Kaito), Anders Trentemøller (Copenhagen) Joris Voorn, Chymera, Ovum and Delsin ambassador of Ireland, Taho or Deadmau5 ˆ the list just reads like the who is who of current club music.
Many of the tracks now are released on CD for the first time. When downloading the album at Beatport or iTunes, you will get an additional mixed version with your download. Then at the latest, the circle to club aesthetics closes irrevocably.

Chris Zippel - Genuine Horizon

Artist: Chris Zippel
P: 2007
Elux e10011100cd
Chris Zippel is a prominent new entrant on Elektrolux. For more than 15 years, he has been working as producer and remixer for Pop and Dance stars such as Pet Shop Boys, Robbie Williams, Snap, Schiller, Baby D., Marmion or the Berlin band ‘Ich & Ich’ around Annette Humpe. In his Berlin-based sound lab, the congenial perfectionist offers hi tech support for record labels and musicians.
More than 300 outstanding mastering works prove Chris Zippels post production competence. The musical autodidact has been using synthesizers since the middle of the 80s. In the course of studio productions in his hometown, Chris Zippel quite early met the protagonists of the so called ‘Berliner Schule’ – electronic ‘grandmasters’ like Stefan Kaske (Mythos), whose innovative understanding of sound considerably influenced Zippels work. By two internationally respected solo albums on Ninetysix Sounds, he set some new courses in the Electronica genre at the end of the nineties.
Under the project title ‘genuine - nu ambient grooves’, Chris Zippel created a very personal interpretation of Ambient using marching TripHop-Beats, intensive atmospheres and melancholic Pop references – also a reference to his ‘heroes’ Cocteau Twins, The Orb, Sigur Ros, Boards of Canada or Future Sound of London.
Moreover, the new ‘Genuine Horizon’ features a number of high class vocal partners: ‘Ich & Ich’ singer Adel Tawil, Tusnelda from Kopenhagen (who e.g. worked with Jam El Mar/Jam & Spoon), the New Yorker singer and performance artist Cindy Rivera or Sascha Baschin (Ultraviolet/Berlin). ‘Ich & Ich’ producer Sebastian Kirchner plays the guitar on 5 of 10 tracks. Thus, Zippels proven ‘Genuine’ concept gets a new dimension: ‘My music should not be mere entertainment but should touch the audience emotionally’, Zippel describes his musical target. ‘At best, a unique moment of sound emerges which implies a silent longing.’ But surely a kind of addiction as well: While listening to Chris Zippels Chill Pop fantasies like ‘Again’, ‘Blade’ or ‘Particle’ with pleasure, you will get more than an idea what ‘ Genuine Horizon’ can do to your heart, brain and ears …

Espresso Del Lago - Yeki

Artist: Espresso Del Lago
P: 2007
Elektrolux 10011010cd
It might be a bit surprising that one of the most international chill out and lounge music approaches released on Elektrolux so far comes from Switzerland. On the other hand, this is just a logical consequence as it is the only European country with four official national languages. By their debut album “Yeki”, the Zurich-based musician Flavio Maspoli and DJ André Baumgartner aka Espresso Del Lago want to go beyond constricting frontiers, to take up all kinds of multi cultural influences and to transform them into something new. This approach would not be complete without the particular charm and soul of human voices. Indeed, the album opener "Sa Trincha“ with Spanish vocals by Monica takes its orignal aesthetics from the idea of Mediterranean chill out in a Cafe del Mar style. However, it definitely developed a language of its own. The same has to be said for the impressionist piano of "The World Is Ours", the Persian vocal elements by singer Sitta in "Yeki" and "Suratat" or the African influences to be heard in "Digital Divide" which add a very exotic and sensual component to the soundscape of Espresso Del Lago. Finally, the Persian album title "Yeki" means nothing but two people becoming one - the magic thing only happening in the context of true love.

Fous De La Mer - Ultramar

Artist: Fous De La Mer
P: 2006
Elektrolux e10010000cd

‚The sea is life, development and motion. To us, the sea is just another world which has been existing much longer than we do, in whose secrets, beauty and energy we always love to get lost.’ (Sol Ruiz de Galarretta, 2006) A declaration of love to life, love, and, last but not least, the sea. By this mixture, the house producer Marko Bussian (Glissando Bros.), Jean-Charles Vandermynsbrugge from Southern France and Argentina-born Sol Ruiz De Galaretta have created one of the most beautiful ambient pop summer hymns of musical history by their debut EP ‚Never Stop Loving’ three yers ago. Two years after the release of the ‚Stars & Fishes’ album, the Ibiza-based musicians now are diving into their deeply touching escapisms about a day at the sea again. And the musical horizon on ‚Ultramar’ has significantly broadened.
‚On »Ultramar«, you can see the maturing process towards a much more individual sound, which, in contrast to many chillout productions, allows much more experiments towards traditional songwriting and intensive sound athmospheres. However, the warm basic mood which actually represents the specific sound of Fous de la Mer remained.’
Jean-Charles Vandermynsbrugge: ‚By »Stars and Fishes«, we had transferred our personal experinces into a common music work. The result was an album full of surprises, inspired by the island and our first joint adventures. In the course of producing »Ultramar«, we have grown and now are able to express our feelings and ideas in a joint, familiar and intuitive way - in word and sound.’ The ‚Ultramar’ listener is overwhelmed by music of brilliant beauty which just needs to go outside - to the sun, moon, wind, rain and, of course, the beach (‚Clairs De Lune’, ‚Luces’, ‚Esse Sonho’). Finally, the outstanding vocals by Sol (‚Ultramar’, ‚Ocean 22°E’, ‚Asi Vas’) and Clair Dietrich (‚All These Years’) once again are conjuring sensual melancholic hymns to love which are able to tear apart one´s heart but can also put it together again. Maybe such an album can only be made with a far view, starry nights and the presence of the sea, who knows? ‚As a child, you think that the sea is neverending, at least in your fantasy. But shoudn´t we preserve a little of this childlike naivety for our life?’

Gabriel Le Mar - Reel Time DVD

Artist: Gabriel Le Mar
P: 2006
Elektrolux 100011111dvd

"On Reel Time, opulent stringslayer in early nineties tradition (“Firefly”), percussively enriched progressive House with a pinch of Acid (“Stick Dance”) or orientally inspired Dubfunk (zero db) can be found - a real cornucopia of style-determining factors from Le Mar´s broad musical socialisation between Ambienttrance, Downbeat, Chillout, Electro and, of course, lots of Dub. Thus, Reel Time kind of takes a stock of the Elektrolux sound from somebody with a deep understanding, bringing this mix of elements together to a synthesis in best “reel time” - just in the middle of the magic interface between past, presenceand future of electronic music! By his latest DVD Reel Time, Gabriel Le Mar astonishes everyone who thought they´d know him. There´s something for your eyes, too: Le Mar surprises us by sophisticated graphic and cinematic interpretations of his music. The level of artistic maturity and individuality of the clips is deeply impressing. Gabriel Le Mar studied at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin and worked as an art director as well. The sounds and images, among other places, were recorded in India, Nepal, Japan and Le Mar´s homebase, Frankfurt. For that purpose, Le Mar worked together with friends like George Din, Oliver Bradford (camera and direction) and Alex Azary (sound).
It is quite a mystery why the mastermind of Ambient Dub and co-founder of the Spacenight compilations waited to relase his solo debut until the eleventh year of the label history. Only when listening very carefully, the solution becomes obvious: Reel Time adds a new, powerful feeling to the Elektrolux sound - a brilliant intersection which had just been missing in the perfectly arranged world of electro. Gabriel Le Mar at the right time – enjoy Reel Time in sound and vision.

Various Artists - The Future is my Melody Vol. 2

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2005
Elektrolux e10001001cd
"Can Chillout and Pop go together? Electronic music has gone through a remarkable change during the last years by tracks having become less anonymous and more recognizable, especially with regard to song-like structures. Therefore, it was only logical that Elektrolux gave an impressing proof of the consensus of Ambient and Pop by the first issue of the compilation series The Future Is My Melody"" about two years ago. The aim was to set a new benchmark especially on the international market (e.g. Major licensings to Columbia for the US and Canada and to Universal for France). As a logical consequence, this success story is continued congenially in the anniversary year 2005. Twelve tracks of the more recent label history and two tracks which have not been released yet form an Ambient Pop Compilation which is already making us dream of next summer.
Marko Bussian, Jean-Charles Vandermynsbrugge and the Argentina-born Sol Ruiz de Galarreta are meeting for a sensual kiss on the beach of Ibiza (Fous de la Mer ""Conmigo""). The latest label act Groovecatcher is bewitched by the cathartic power of rain expressed in a deeply melancholic dub (""After The Rain""). The label founders Alex Azary and Pascal FEOS give an exclusive outlook to the third Aural Float by blending smooth but funky chilled Elektro breaks with vocals by Kim Sanders in a track akin to Prince productions (""Him And Her - Chris Wood Re-Edit"").
""The Future Is My Melody Vol. 2"", like part one, of course features tracks by Naoki Kenji, The Sushi Club, Jean F. Cochois, Fresh Moods and PFL feat. Julia Messenger. Thus, the future of the aesthetic power of melodies could not be brighter.

Various Artists - The Elektrolux Decade

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2005
Elektrolux e10001000cd
How would you like to celebrate a special birthday? Would you prefer to wallow in sweet memories or would you prefer to look out for new future adventures ? Elektrolux seems to choose the second and, for their 10th Anniversary, releases a double CD which contains more than 20 previously unreleased tracks by some of the most renowned contemporary electronic listening producers (such as Aural Float, Fresh Moods, The Sushi Club, Gabriel Le Mar, Fous De La Mer, Ruxpin, Fortunato & Montresor and many more) and on top represents a comprehensive anthology with all known electronic listening styles 2005. Carefree summer excursions into the history of synthesizers (Groovecatcher 'The Electronic Kick'), slowmotion vocoder with mediteranean jazz (Guardner 'Everybody Needs'), tragic- melancolic dub- organs (Subtonal 'Back Home'), enchanting ambienttrance strings (Aural Float 'Still Here – Instrumental'), soulhouse hymns with analyzer crooning (Jean F. Cochois 'Electronique Love – Naoki Kenji Remix') or highly dramatic electro trance (Ruxpin 'Kiteboarding in the summer – Sniper Mode Remix'), everything’s possible. The Elektrolux Decade Compilation presents the perfect symmetry between harmonic high class electronic listening and a relaxed and modern understanding of dance-pop.

Phonosynthese - Waldall

Artist: Phonosynthese
P: 2005
Elektrolux e10000111cd
"In electronic music, there is hardly another musical style referred to as often and readily as dub. Indeed, it is quite charming to give additional deepness to a track by using the echo delay to full capacity. But where others more or less stay at the surface, Doc.Nic, Mr.Rod and 'J' alias Phonosynthese are speaking the language of dub fluently, but nevertheless do not indulge in cliché audio escapisms into the Carribean. Two years after the celebrated Lebensstrom"" debut (also on Elektrolux), the trio which is living a few kilometers to the north of Frankfurt lives up to its project name by presenting a naturalistic but yet urban interpretation of sound deepness. The listener must not be misled by ostensibly humorist track titles - the ""Waldall"" absolutely is about serious music. In ""Februar Dub"", a Jamaican soundscape actually meets a shock frosted winter landscape with foggy mountains, the ""Traumzauberbaum"" is praised by heavy handclaps and a melancholic piano, a ""Glitzerblume"" is defoliated by a Jazzfunk organ with a nodding beat, and by ""Nebelhorn"" or ""Fruchttrigger"", even the melancholy ambient trance dub of the early nineties experiences an enthusiastic revival. For sure one of the most intensive and complex chillout albums in spring 2005.

Metalob - Plastic Forest

Artist: Metalob
P: 2004
Elektrolux e10000010cd

"What comes out if a Japanese with a liking for Rock and Breakbeats creates Oriental Chill Out Moods in his Osaka-based studio? The answer and even more will begiven by a rumble through the Plastic Forest"" where Masumi Samukawa aka Metalob (short form for Metal Of Breakbeats) invites us by his worldwide album debut. After numerous Japan-exclusive releases, Metalob here presents the result of 2 years of intensive Macintosh work, overflowing with hardly restrained imagination. He surprises himself and his audience with unexpected melodious shifts again and again, yet evoking a harmonious vision of a recreation both futuristic and culture-spanning (""Airwave"", La´o Ageha""). But by sensitized subsonic percussive breaks like ""Anple"", ""Dorgo"" or ""Nerve Fish"", Samukawa demonstrates that the Breakbeats homage in the project name had not been chosen by chance. East meets West in the magic forest!

Various Artists - Flowmotion Vol. 2 CD

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2003
Elektrolux E10000000

For more than three years now, the unique TV format „Flowmotion“ is being broadcasted nightly via public german TV station Hessen Fernsehen. Within short time, „Flowmotion“ has reached a maximum of popularity and managed to established itself as a audio-visual platform for different kind of projects, producers and video artists – thus closing a gap that conventional mainstream music television continously failed to consider. The sensational success of „Flowmotion“ therefore truely speaks for itself: feedback from the immensely growing community of fans on every new edition of the programme is overwhelming and already the first compilation of the Flowmotion archives on DVD and CD („Flowmotion Visual Pleasure Vol. 1“) has delivered great results with fans and press alike. Over and over again, critics praise the extra-ordinairy quality of the graphic animations and videos while the convincing selection of music almost seems to be taken for granted. With „Flowmotion Visual Pleasure Vol. 2“ the second summary of recently broadcoasted tracks and songs is now being released and yet again, the compilation sets the pace. Over the course of the complete playing time, a sensitive suspense is being built, leading through the different songs, combining them to one monumental piece of art: „Flowmotion Visual Pleasure Vol. 2“ covers almost anything from deep downtempo excursions and mesmerizing soundscapes to dub deconstructions and orchestral electronica and features many listening milestones from ueNN „Three Pilots“ or Aural Float „Switchin’ The Wave Of Thought“ to Rescape’s „Lichtwaerts“ and Múm „Ballad Of The Broken Birdie Records“. Exceptional artists like Sushi Club, Naoki Kenji or Guardner complete this outstanding tracklisting and underline the claim of the Elekrolux team to create nothing less than a genre defying release. „Flowmotion Visual Pleasure Vol. 2“ doesn’t leave the slightest doubt about this approach.

Elektrolux e1110100cd

We welcome Elektrolux newest exciting signing Phonosynthese, who deliver a cracking debut longplayer that will go down by storm among electronic listening fans everywhere. Emerging from holes far underground the mysterious trio Doc.Nic, Mr.Rod and J has put together a magnificent collection of tracks that will bring a ray of sunshine to us all in these dark dark times. Combining classic ambient textures with a rough synthetic approach and wide range of mystic rhythms, these boys offer some outstanding sound designs that could best be described as a mushroom deranged dose of black magic. Exploring the depths of various contemporary listening styles, these fourteen little gems stray even into the deepest and darkest territories. Some being stripped down to all the essential components, while others feature a more spherical melodic approach to counteract the rougher side of this album with a bunch of relaxed moods.
