Parsick, Stephen
Parsick + Reuter - Lament

Artist: Parsick + Reuter
P: 2012
Stephen Parsick and Markus Reuter have once again met up to brew their own kind of dronescapes. Perhaps you are already familiar with the collaborations between  ['ramp] and Reuter, already released quite some time ago. Well, the gents have been at it again, and in summer of 2010 they went to work on this remarkable and slightly twisted musical landscape.
As you wander inside the dreamfield that is Lament, you will happen upon a path which leads into sonic hinterlands where processed guitar fuses with experiments of a decidedly electronic nature. Complex structures are erected from out of a mysterious tonal language, and the journey meanders between cold and harrowing audioscapes into the blooming fields of the outer reaches of the psychosphere.

Ramp (Stephen Parsick) - Happy Days are here to stay

Artist: Stephen Parsick
P: 2022
LTD 111

It's been a little while since i released the last ['ramp] album, and frankly i wouldn't have thought any new recording would ever see the light of day. hard to imagine that this world was a slightly different one when "no sleep 'til wilmersdorf" was released four years ago, and no one would seriously have guessed our world would take such a massive nosedive, right?

it is not only the dire prospects of future we are facing -- in some way or other, i also had to deal with the passing of one of the most crucial figures in my personal and musical evolution, cosmic hoffmann. in fact, it took me almost three years to come to grips with the fact klaus isn't around any longer. much of this cathartic mourning process is to be found on "happy days", and sometimes it even feels as if klaus was intervening from beyond (or elsewhere).

come to think of it, i am even happier i managed to finalise a string of recordings made between the summer of 2017 and april 2022 -- and arrange them in a more or less meaningful way as an album of entirely new (and at the same time very old) music. in some regard it might be seen as a continuation of what was already present on "wilmersdorf". on the other hand, though, the music presented here took on a life of its own thanks to the recent events, and i must admit that i haven't made anything *that* doombient since my own "hoellenengel" album from 2004/05 (even though "happy days" is nowhere near as bleak, but that's only me, of course). honestly, i wasn't all too keen on taking that dark turn again, and i was perfectly happy to have left the gloomy reaches of electronic music behind a bit.

well, it wasn't meant to be for long, was it?

Stephen Parsick - Cambrium

Artist: Stephen Parsick
P: 2009
"cambrium - music for protozoa" was music for a planetarium program which was composed and conceived in the second half of 2008. The original idea was to record an album which was based entirely on the sounds created on an ARP 2600 synthesizer but also on a VCS-3 with matching sequencers, utilizing extensive analogue and digital processing, loop devices, and various treatments. To me, it was like making electronic music the way an old-fashioned pioneer of the genre would have in the 1950s or 1960s, just using a very basic synthesizer, a couple of tape recorders, a splicing block, and whatever outboard gear the studio had available.

Stephen Parsick - Höllenengel

Artist: Stephen Parsick
P: 2004
The main focus of the album firmly on the colossal Yamaha cs80, Stephen set out to combine Vangelis´ more orchestral timbale palette with the darker and more foreboding soundscapes inspired by Brian Lustmord´s work.
"Hoellenengel" was widely recognized as one of the most authentic-sounding approaches at making a musical sequel to "Blade Runner", and it even received some rave reviews on fan sites dedicated exclusively to Scott´s film (among the reviewers were Gary Willoughby of bladezone.com and Arvin Clay of radio2019). Other reviewers billed Stephen´s album as one of the darkest albums of electronic music ever recorded.

Stephen Parsick - Traces of the Past Redux

Artist: Stephen Parsick
P: 2007
When "traces" was originally released on the Spheric music label in 1998, the album was made up of a collection of tracks recorded between 1994 and 1997, using the original mellotrons owned and used by Peter Baumann, Edgar Froese, and Klaus Schulze.
Unfortunately, Stephen felt right from the start that a major part of the music wasn´t as elaborate as he wanted it to be. not only on a musical level, but also on a technical level there was a lot left to be desired in his opinion. Harddisk editing was waiting somewhere beyond the horizon at that time, unattainable for mere mortals. When "traces" sold out in 2001, Stephen dabbled with the idea of producing a reissue of the album which finally ironed out all the flaws and glitches he had always felt annoyed with. produced in 2005, "traces redux" features the original tracks from the original album not only in greatly improved sound quality, but also greatly more focussed, more condensed, and rid of noodlings as pointless as they were endless. Editing the music allowed for the inclusion of a couple of bonus tracks from the same era which could not make it onto the first issue of "traces", and these bonus tracks alone should send everybody straight into berlin school heaven.

V/A - Dark Ambient Radio Vol. 1

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2008
This is a project, where all these dark ambient musicians played new tracks for this collection.
Low frequencies, deep atmospheres, layers of darkness. All this decorated with slow, wicked melodies. Music not usually coming from your radio, more likely coming from the abyss scorching inside a sick mind. But there is this place - Dark Ambient Radio. A place which provides with a shelter not only those who enjoy drowning their senses in dark soundscapes and atmospheres but also the ones who dare to create them.
