Geigertek

Neil Fellowes out of Norwich / UK. Neil's musical influences will be very obvious to many listening to his work. Without shame, he happily and enthusiastically cites as his main influences people such as John Foxx, Mike Oldfield, Isao Tomita, Gary Numan, Jean Michel Jarre, Ultravox, Kraftwerk and Enigma, the very music he listens to when not writing or recording himself.

Geigertek - The Garden

Artist: Geigertek
P: 2006/ 2008
This superb creation is an exciting mixture of electronic music sounds and styles that has its roots firmly in the "melodic new age" style of instrumental music, with strong hints of romanticism and no shortage of great tunes. However, where Geigertek really succeeds is in creating his own unique style and sound based on solid musical arrangements, some great solos, both synth and piano, and some inventive sequencing.
There is also an unusually strong variation of moods here that really works well. From the mystical tones of the opening track "The Garden" through various sonic journeys that incorporate both strident and laid back rhythms, through the classical excursion on "The Sculpture and the Wall", the gentle melody of "Songbird bathing in Blue" to the stunningly atmospheric "View from a White Room", this is a superb album of well crafted, heartfelt instrumental music that although walking the line of melodic new age, never crosses into the sugary sweet.
The Garden is sure to find favour with those who like their electronic music varied, emotive and melodic.

Geigertek - Soundtrack for City Living

Artist: Geigertek
P: 2011
Geigertek continues his musical evolution with this fine offering of stylized electronic music that perfectly captures the feeling and mood of a modern cityscape at night. The music is a quantum leap forward from his previous releases with the rhythmic, and at times almost sensual approach to the esoteric soundscapes guiding the listener through the vibrant nightlife of an imaginary city on a variety of emotions. The album retains Geigertek's melodic, classical approach but the music is now infused with a more mature and at times darker, moodier edge. A varied and hugely interesting album that includes a stunning version of John Foxx's classic electronica track "Underpass". "Soundtrack For City Living" also features the talents of David Wright on Omnisphere Synthesizer, Code Indigo's Nigel Turner-Heffer on guitar and Candice Wells and Anne Mancini-Smith joining Neil Fellowes on vocals.

Geigertek - The Timeless Mind

Artist: Geigertek
P: 2010
The Timeless Mind is a compelling new work that may leave you just a little surprised at how far removed it is from the 2008 debut "The Garden". Putting aside the fact that "The Timeless Mind" sounds really great courtesy of the added mix and mastering input of Callisto (Dave Massey & David Wright), musically the album has progressed some distance from the new age leanings of the debut outing to a more sophisticated and evolving electronic music style, while still retaining the classical and melodic, emotive musical canvas that is so indicative of Geigertek. Tracks like "What Dreams May Come", "Until the end of Time" and "In Another Light" all exude a wonderful ethereal passion with gorgeous atmospherics behind effective sequencing to drive the tracks along. However the highlight is undoubtably the stunning "Spirit Walking" with its punchy rhythms and catchy theme that'll have you reaching for the repeat button and humming the tune long after the chords have drifted off into space. A really fine effort and deserving of a wide audience to hear it!

Various Artists - The First Snow

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2010
There are Christmas albums, and then there are Christmas albums. "ChristmasAD - The First Snow" is an outstanding collection of instrumental Christmas music that's appeal is that everyone is going to enjoy it!
A good Christmas album should contain some old classics plus some familiar pop titles to warm you on a cold winter evening as you sit by the fireside. So on this collection there are eight favourites, expertly re-imagined, plus eleven brand new Christmas songs that perfectly reflect the Christmas spirit.
"The Dancing Snowman" by David Wright & Geigertek is delightfully OTT and perfectly starts proceedings, and what follows is pure bliss! Steve Barnes and RamsayGee provide real romantic heart with five beautiful pieces: Steve's being the classic favourites "Little Town of Bethlehem", "Good King Wenceslas" and "God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen" and Gareth's being the sublime self penned "First Snow" and "Season's Wish". Catalin Marin returns with his epic, ethnic influenced "A Star in the East", and new artists Claudio Merlini and The Pels Syndicate contribute a stunning melodic track each with "Christmas Wonderland" and "Xmas5" respectively. Richard Bone provides two glorious covers in "Do You Hear What I Hear" and "Donde Esta Santa Claus?" while Acheloo and Robert Fox provide beautifully moody interpretations of "White Christmas" and "Silent Night". Al Rudd's "The Magic of Christmas?" provides the albums glorious "Tim Burton" influenced moment (think "A Nightmare at Christmas"!) while Lord of the Ants provides an atmospheric acoustic number that perfectly reflects "Christmas In New York". David Wright's rhythmic electronic version of "We Three Kings" and Bekki Williams beautifully orchestrated "Where is Santa?" end the album perfectly. The sound of children's laughter briefly open and close the album, reminding us perhaps that Christmas is about peace and good will reflected in the joy and laughter of innocence.
The collective artists on the label have really excelled here, presenting an emotive and memorable collection of Christmas tunes that delicately, and without exception, successfully walk the line between feel good melodic music and contemporary, creative, classically influenced new age/electronic music.
Beautifully recorded and produced, this is one classy album that is destined to run and run.
