Deuter

If Deuter does not give you his exact address you'll most likely never find his domain. It is hidden deep in the New Mexico forest he shares with birds, deer, roadrunners, snakes and coyotes. The sound of wind chimes and bees fill the air. He is a beekeeper; recently he's been regularly visited by a bear who rather indelicately tried to sample the sweet wares of his hives. Between studio sessions you'll probably find the musician reshaping his pond or crafting zen-like furniture in his workshop. Deuter describes himself as a hermit/monk/wolf living in the wild (and enjoying it!). He designed his house using the principles of Feng Shui. The studio, with its large windows and views of the forest, is a sanctuary – a laboratory for music-making that includes instruments from all over the world: Shakuhachi flutes, sitars, tablas, santoors, a Turkish sasz, and a Persian tar; Chimes, bowls, Tibetan bells and of course, keyboards, guitars, and synthesizers. If you are lucky enough to be invited into Deuter's world while he is recording, you will experience a transformation as he disappears into the magic of his music.

Deuter - Bamboo Forest

Artists: Deuter
P: 2017

On Bamboo Forest some of the pieces are Shakuhachi solo, while in others, Deuter has expanded the spirit and the soul of this bamboo flute to include a wider musical experience. It is really an art to create sound with the Shakuhachi, and because of that, because it’s so free there is a very wide spectrum in the sound. You can change it, you can alter it, you can stretch it, you can push something, you can be very forceful or you can be incredibly soft and sweet.

Deuter - Celebration

Artists: Deuter
P: 1976 / 1988
New Age doesn't get any better than this. It's really mind music, full of joy too. Haunting melodies and then simple, childlike half-tunes w/ birdsong and waterfall. Recorder and acoustic guitar dominates the soundscape. Music that might sound homegrown and somewhat primitive on one level. But deep and sophisticated on another. And coming from a meditative space, obviously very inspired by his association with Osho, in whose ashram in Poona he was living at the time.
In his recent lot more polished efforts deuter has never reached the same dephts and heights as he did in his earlier works like this one.

Deuter - D

Artists: Deuter
P: 1971
Recorded in 1971, it is clear that certain psychedelic drugs most likely were influences in the creation of this music. 3-D sound effects similar to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" sweep accross your brain leading you to audio virtual environments and possibly into altered states of consciousness-- no drugs necessary.... Best listened to with headphones when you want to escape from reality.

Deuter - Ecstasy

Artists: Deuter
P: 1979
Ecstasy is one of several pivotal albums that Deuter recorded as a result of his studies in India during the mid 1970s. There he took up residence in an ashram, probing deeply into Indian music, and completed many compositions that he had begun in Germany. In mixing Eastern and Western textures with engaging, uplifting melodies, Deuter found an appropriate balance for his spiritual ideals. With soaring flutes, rich synthesizer textures, resonant guitars, spiraling sequencer patterns, and delicate percussion, he created a sense of exhilaration and joy matched by few artists. The music on Ecstasy truly lives up to its name.

Deuter - Flowers of Silence

Artists: Deuter
P: 2012
The long-awaited album by Deuter, playing the shakuachi, the Japanese bamboo flute. The shakuachi is a special flute used by the monks of the Fuke school in the practice of Suizen blowing mediation. Deuter embodies the very essence of the shakuachi sound, a sound which has a subtle and rich tone. Deuter plays these 11 compositions from a space of deep meditation where sound and silence meet. "Flowers of Silence" is a true gift of high vibration.

The sonic textures of voice and keyboard create a profoundly relaxing musical sanctuary. This is the music you want to play to open and sink deeply into the Heart. Annette's beautiful voice gently calls you in, supports you as a mother singing a lullaby, and reminds you of the solid ground of the Cosmic Heart that is within you.

Deuter - Haleakala

Artists: Deuter
P: 1978
His 1978 release, Haleakala, was recorded in Poona. This release was a true portrait of Deuter's spiritual quest as well as production talents. Using a four-track tape machine and a progression of sub-mixes down to two tracks, Deuter was able to blend his own performances of two flutes, two guitars, organ synthesizer, and bells percussion along with natural sounds. This sixteen-track requirement he accomplished in the middle of India on just four tracks with an amazing technical fidelity.

Deuter - Henon

Artists: Deuter
P: 1992
Deuter's ardent fans across the globe will be enchanted with Henon. In it, Deuter has outdone himself with the intricate melodies and emotional variations that characterize his flute, guitar and synthesizer performances. This recording is as fresh as his first release on the Kuckuck label more than twenty years ago, but it clearly displays the mastery he has perfected over that time. Deuter's magic is his remarkable ability to create music that is both smooth and textured, light yet deeply layered. Although Deuter composed each piece especially for this recording, Henon is almost a best of release: it combines the best of Deuter's delightful melodious style with the best recording techniques. In fact, this is Deuter's first true audiophile recording, as discerning listeners will discover with pleasure. This breakthrough is represented also by the new design of the Henon cover. The computer artwork, a fractal image, is dedicated to French astronomer Michel Henon, whose endeavors "to understand the trajectories of stars through a galaxy" led him to his pioneering work on fractals. Just as Henon's work combined timeless fascination with modern methods, Henon combines Deuter's timeless style with a philosophical bent towards the 21st century.

Deuter - Kundalini Meditation

Artists: Deuter
P: 1990 / 1997
This music has been specifically created with Osho for the Osho Kundalini Meditation, one of the series of revolutionary "Active Meditations" described in Osho's book "Meditation. These Active Meditations are designed for the modern restless mind. They lead you from physical activity to an experience of silence. Osho Kundalini Meditation has four stages of 15 minutes each, three with music and one without. The first stage: "Be loose and let your whole body shake, feeling energies moving up from your feet. Let go everywhere and become the shaking. Your eyes may be open or closed." The second stage: "Dance . . . any way you feel, and let the whole body move as it wishes." The third stage: "Close your eyes and be still, sitting or standing . . . witnessing whatever is happening inside and out." The fourth stage: "Keep your eyes closed, lie down and be still." It is great music and a great meditation.

Deuter - Land of Enchantment

Artists: Deuter
P: 1986
Land of Enchantment, Deuter's tenth album, is a glimpse of the magic found in life. Deuter combines acoustic instruments and synthesizers in his customarily skillful fashion. The tracks on this album were recorded in various geographical areas, from France and Hawaii to Santa Fe, and they represent different scenes and experiences. Characteristics from Eastern and Western musical cultures are blended to portray the light-hearted and mystical qualities of each location. "The message in the music is Light," says Deuter. "Light as opposed to heavy, and light as opposed to darkness. The music is derived from an understanding that life is a gift and from an acceptance of the miracle that it is, that all things exist."

Deuter - Mandala Meditation

Artists: Deuter
P: 1998
It consists of four roughly equally long pieces of different nature. The opening segment is highly percussion driven and far from relaxing. It is followed by the second piece of processed guitar and synthesizer, complete with waves and seagulls. It then gradually slows down through the third gentle guitar piece and the fourth and last phase which initially felt a bit of a rip-off, being nothing but fifteen minutes of silence ended by a single gong.

This somewhat unorthodox approach stems from a particular meditation technique from the Osho foundation, located in Poona, India. The listener is encouraged to take different stances for each track. At the start you are supposed to run frenetically on the spot (hamster wheel?), second to sit with closed eyes and open mouth, third to lie down with open eyes and rotate your view in a clockwise fashion. Finally you are supposed to close your eyes and lie still
