Delago

Hermann Delago is Austrian, but he plays the Australian didgeridoo along with a lot of synthesizers. He deploys them into a pretty atmospheric album that mixes didg and synth drones and some nice melodies.
He started to mix the sound of the didgeridoo with sounds of other instruments like guitars and keyboards and - as a result of that – occupied himself intensively with further exotic instruments from asian, indo american and african cultures. "This was my new sound: An attempt to combine spontaneous extemporization with structured compositions!"

Meditative and rhtyhmic Worldmusic
Gado Gado“ - this is a journey to the sounds of the world , filled with experiences of various people cultic customs and rituals, musical traditions, religions and conscience expanding means. After his debut album „Didge Goes World“ wich has been rather successful in the Worldmusic-scene, Herman Delago managed to put into reality his inner spiritual voyage by navigating around the world for six months, accompanied of course by his didgeridoo. He transfered his impressions into the music of his new CD „Gado Gado“, The title refers to a colourful, spicy indonesian salad dish and freely translated means „a bit of everything“. Delago is not actually fascinated by the mere traditional of skillful presentation of the didgeridoo, but rather by the fusion of the instrument with the availabilities of our time - with the instruments of western cultures and also with electronic music. The over twenty instruments ringing out on „Gado Gado“ were all played by Delago himself, he also was his own producer and engineer and the acoustic result of this interesting musical act of creativity can be heard on „Gado Gado“, you should be a bit hungry for a piquant blend of meditative and rhtyhmic Worldmusic - based on the pristine vibration of the didgeridoo.

Delago - Salzwelten

Artists: Delago
P: 2005
With his really unique mix of alpine folk music, Asian and African Austrian elements and modern ambient/electronic styles on his three albums „Didge Goes World“ (1996), „Gado Gado“ (1998),  and most of all „Trance Alpin“ multi-instrumentalist, music conductor, Didgeridoo-player and composer Hermann Delago has created himself a very special place in Europe’s music scene.
With „Salzwelten /Saltworks“ Delago now presents the music for a truly unusual project: In april 2005 a spectacular multimedia show called „Salzwelten“ was opened in a salt mine in the beautiful historic village of Altaussee in the heart of Austria. The show is centered around a huge salt lake, situated 700 meters below daylight. At the day of the shows opening, Delago and his fellow musicians performed parts of their soundtrack to show live on an island in the midst of the lake. It is easy to imagine the effect of Delagos complex music in this amazing location, but it also displays its beauty independently from this setting - starting with the playful use of marching band motifs and parts of the famous traditional „Erzherzog Johann Yodel“ in the opener „EHJ Saltmarch“ to the symphonic structures in „Frozen Light“, the sacred music tendencies in „St. Barbara’s chapel“, or the Floydian space rock including Mussorgsky-quotes in „Endangered Art (WW II)“.
Three very special guests added their unique talents to this amazing album: Delagos friend Alex Mayer, one of the world’s premier Didgerido-virtuosos, the charming singer Zabine, who started her career with her innovative and sensual yodeling in Hubert von Goiserns Band Alpinkatzen and has since successfuly toured in Europe, Africa and Asia, and last but not least Delagos son Manu, himself an accomplished percussionist. After listening to this wonderful album we once again are thrilled by Hermann Delagos ability to create music so varied in its moods (from thrilling to meditative) and at the same time so deeply soulful.

Delago - Trancealpin

Artists: Delago
P: 2000

Alphorns meet Didgeridoos.
Trance, a dreamlike state of conscience, which is very welcome from a spiritistic and shamanistic point of view and opens the mind for stimuli from within, is the central topic of this alpine music."Trancealpine" is a kind of kind of musical portrait of the inner life of Tyrolean multi-instrumentalist Hermann Delago. Like his earlier albums "Didge goes World" and "Gado Gado" it builds bridges to ("trans") exotic musical traditions. As alphorns meet didgeridoos, thoroughly composed pieces for brass and percussion are connected with interesting sounds from Asia, Africa and America. Like the names of these three continents the titles of all seven tracks begin with the first letter of the alphabet: A. "Aqua" ("water") has a key role. The forces of nature, religious ideas and sentiments like "Heimat" (i.e. the place, where one feels naturally at home) are also fundamental elements of the album‘s concept. Thus "Trancealpin" illuminates the various basic elements of the "conditio humana".
