Most of us have engaged in cloud watching at some point. Scanning the evolving abstract forms within the sky and being transfixed by the varying speeds of the ever changing shapes, as these random white structures, sometimes mirroring recognisable forms, slowly develop. A kaleidoscopic landscape of patterns, with every formation unique and never to be repeated. This was the creative platform and inspiration behind ‘Evolving Forms’.

FRBs are Fast Radio Bursts. Only recently, very unusual repeating signals, coming from a source about 1.5 billion light years away have been detected. These signals have been picked up from a distant galaxy and so far, little is known about this cosmic puzzle. The music of Colin Rayment takes this event as its composing base.

Having spent time with his kids during the summer exploring the Jurassic beach areas of Devon in the UK, these sometimes amazing formations became the inspiration behind this personal music to the artist.Fantastic music, full of dynamics and unexpected turns. Creative inspiration is all around us. Sometimes you don’t have to look very far to find these visual ‘prompts’. Just how many photographs, videos, or even illustrations, could originate from the observations viewed through a studio window? Music can be created simply by observing the seasons and associated visual changes around you, but additionally, by weaving in aspects from life’s events and creating a seamless patchwork for a musical ‘narrative’. In this case, Metamorphic Phases, is just that.

Theoretically, time dilation would make it possible for passengers in a fast-moving vehicle to advance further into the future in a short period of their own time. For sufficiently high speeds, the effect is dramatic. For example, one year of travel might correspond to ten years on Earth. In time dilation, time moves slower for an observer who is in motion relative to another observer. To a stationary observer, a moving clock will tick slower than the one the observer is holding. The concept of the time dilation effect comes from Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity. Would you want to look ahead? And if you could, what would you do about what you see…
