Klamt, Greg

An anchor musician on the Spotted Peccary Music label, Greg Klamt has become internationally known for his contemporary, neo-classical compositions of symphonic orchestration backed by driving electronic and percussive rhythms, and expansive atmospheric textures. With his debut release Fulcrum, he helped to seed the label's dedication to the expansion of new American music based on the experiences and impressions of life in North America. He continued this tradition with his second project, Fluxus Quo. With the collaborative release, Convergence, he has joined forces with two other of Spotted Peccary's best known artists to delve into more ethno-ambient soundscapes.

Artist: Greg Klamt + Deborah Martin + Mark Rownd
P: 2002

Performed at a concert at Ocean Song Musica, Del Mar,USA.
A collective presentation by three artists featuring new collaborative material that explores diverse rhythmic, melodic, and ambient atmospheric realms. Their distinctive styles are combined in a unique performance that includes acoustic guitar, flutes and ocarinas, custom built instruments, hand percussion, slit drums, Native American Taos drums, light vocals, and ambient textures. Convergence is an imaginative collaboration by three of Spotted Peccary's best known artists. With its impressive array of acoustic percussion and melodic instruments combined with lush atmospheres, it is a virtual gallery of sound sculptures which reveals the spirit of many diverse cultural influences. These merged styles yield inspired melodies, textures, and space.
This is a very special recording, featuring some of the best wind instrument playing you have heard in a while, as well as inventive rhythms and spot-on keyboard textures. It's got to be in the running for one of the best albums of the year!

Greg Klamt - Fluxus Quo

Artist: Greg Klamt
P: 1997

With Fluxus Quo, Greg Klamt takes a quantum leap over his impressive debut, Fulcrum. You can still hear the influences of early space music, but they have now been submerged in an intricate synthesized sound world full of interlocking patterns and textural designs. Klamt obviously listened to the minimalist music of Steve Reich, and the marimba-like sequencer cycles of Stark Raven owe a debt to Reich's Music for 18 Musicians. But Klamt is much more a dramatist than Reich and he uses his cycles to create tension and mood beneath his sweeping synthesizer melodies. A penchant for sampled orchestral sounds and sweeping synth-strings occasionally robs Klamt's music of the clarity it otherwise enjoys.

Greg Klamt - Fulcrum

Artist: Greg Klamt
P: 1993

It did the label proud! Propulsive rhythms, high energy electronic keyboards, and a "big" dramatic sound and feel to the album make it quite unlike a lot of other ambient music, EM (electronic music) or new age music recordings. FULCRUM combines the "oomph" of Berlin-school (Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream) with a fresh "North American" twist on the genre, fueled by a cinematic aspect and sweeping use of synth strings and an expansive sound field. The last three cuts, in particular, form a wonderful triumvirate. While some of the tracks on the CD (such as the last one) have a moody atmospheric sound and more relaxed feel to them, overall, this music is custom made for cranking up the volume and playing it while cruising on down the highway.
All in all, FULCRUM is as close to an essenitial recording as exists in this genre.
