Kosmos, Patrick

As a child Patrick Kosmos was fascinated by the universe and space travel and he even then wanted to translate his overwhelming feelings about infinity in music. In the early seventies he started to experiment with the first generation of analogue synthesizers, inspired by the musicians of the Berlin school. His musical ideas began to take shape and before long he found himself amidst numerous keyboards and other sophisticated electronic instruments.
Patrick Kosmos started his musical voyage in the mid-1970’s with Sherab, a band combining traditional Eastern music and first generation synthesizers. He kept on discovering soundscape after soundscape and his albums won him appraisals on both sides of the Atlantic. Patrick Kosmos has an impressive track record: 4 albums on the legendary IC label of Klaus Schulze. His album Cosmic Resonance sold 600.000 units. He performed in over 250 international concerts. His compositions are found on over 40 compilation-albums, alongside Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian, Enigma, Brian Eno, Ryuchi Sakamoto, and many more great artists.

Artist: Patrick Kosmos
P: 1991 / 2019
"Lophophora", originally the 5th recording of the legendary "Chronicles"-box set, is the 3rd Patrick Kosmos release by Groove Unlimited. The album features 4 long evocative, varied tracks. "Lopophora pt.1" is a slightly different version than the "Lopophora" track found on the Kosmos-album "Faith", also lasting 2 minutes longer.
For this re-release all audio has been fully restored and remastered meticulously to create the best possible outcome. Let Kosmos' journey continue through stars, nebulae and planets....

Patrick Kosmos - Lucid Dreams

Artist: Patrick Kosmos
P: 2000
O
pen air live recording, in the Flemish Ardens on august 14 - '98. This concert was recorded on the night of the falling stars between 23:00 & 04:00 h. Two 30+ minute tracks of tribal ambience with world influences, along the lines of David Parsons. The title track starts very subtly and slowly, with gongs and bells for the first five minutes. Drifting atmospheres then come into play, followed by a simple repeating rhythm of two short drum beats followed by a long beat, slightly lower in tone. The music is contemplative, and isn't either too light or too dark, but rather tends to take on the mood of the person listening at that moment in time.

Patrick Kosmos - Mindscapes

Artist: Patrick Kosmos
P: 1987 / 2019
As a part of the special 11 CDr box of Patrick Kosmos – The Chronicles (many now not playable any more due to the use of CD'rs of different brands) this is the second release by Groove of thsi brilliant musicians from Belgium!
Mindscapes was originally released as a cassette album in 1987. And recreated by Patrick for The Chronicles with 2 additional tracks. Patrick's unique style comes across great in this release. A pure musical journey not in a particular style other then Patrick's own! After the release of Monument 1988 this had to be the second release of this great Musician that has left us much to early.

Patrick Kosmos - Monument

Artist: Patrick Kosmos
P: 1988 / 2018
Patrick's music was always an inspiration for me, from the day I met him at the first Klemdag. Together with Patrick brother Philip Groove plans to release his vast musical legacy! And the start is "Monument", the live 1988 release from the "Chronicals". Stunning music that has stand the test of time more then brilliantly!! This is Patrick in top form, detailed, full of passion, rich in sounds. A unique Monument, the start of the return of the "Cosmic Courier" !!
How would the stars, nebulae and planets in the cosmos sound like? It would become a life-long quest of Belgium synthesist Patrick Kosmos (aka Patrick Wille De Wael) who composed classic cosmic music from the early ‘80s on. Purchasing his first synth around 1973 he started transcribing his thoughts and feelings on space travel in music. Creating his unique music at home was one thing, playing and improvising it live-in-concert in special places became the true challenge and passion for this cosmic traveller. While improving his musical skills Patrick was a roadie for various bands and a light and sound engineer elsewhere.
In 1983 Patrick released his first cassette “Sherab Trital Tunnel” and played his first concert in 1987, the first in a long series. Many have fond memories of his memorable performance at Dutch KLEM-dag 1988 in Best. Soon, lasers and an assortment of special effects would accompany his spectacular live performances such as “The Concert”. His sonic paintings and electro-acoustic adventures through sound, melody and emotion received lots of airplay through Belgium’s radio programs “Muziek uit de Kosmos” and “Maneuvers in het Donker”.
“Beam me up Scotty, I’m on the wrong planet” is one of Patrick’s favorite quotes.
Covering up the brand names of his synths at concerts was also common practice for Patrick as he had no wish to do any promotion for the respective manufacturers nor did he think one brand was better than the other. Around 2002, Patrick retreated as an electronic musician and focused on easy-listening and chill-out projects. Unfortunately, Patrick passed away on February 2 2015, only 55 years old.
