Alquimia + Roedelius - Move and Resonate

Artist: Alquimia + Roedelius
P: 1999
This album is the meeting between Hans-Joachim Roedelius, German pioneer of the electronic avant garde, and Alquimia, a versatile Mexican artist who has explored the possibilities of synthesizers as well as those of her voice in various innovative projects.
This unusual collaboration between them both has resulted in a likewise remarkable CD. There are melodic passages of a great emotional strength, which could be defined as a fusion of Atmospheric Pop and World Music. And among them both, others of a mysterious, even dreary character coexist, with a slow development and a structure ranging from Ambient to mystic ritual music.
Alquimia's voice, which she herself processes electronically in various ways, turns out to be unearthly at times, and very much earthly in other occasions, perfectly fitting with the electronic textures and exotic atmospheres.

Eno, Moebius, Roedelius - After the Heat

Artist: Eno, Moebius, Roedelius
P: 1978 / 2009
This album came from the same sessions which produced the 5 star masterpiece Cluster and Eno and the song By This River on Before and After Science. This is another splendid album, but it lacks the cohesiveness and sustained other worldly atmosphere of their previous release. It's also a rather more uptempo album a lot of the time, although the overall mood is still tranquil with some nagging dark undercurrents. One major difference between After The Heat and Cluster & Eno is the inclusion of Eno's vocal on a few tracks. This is particularly effective on T'Zima N'arki, which sounds as though Eno is singing his lyrics backwards or possibly is just singing nonsense syllables with bizarre inflections. This track also features Can's Holger Czukay on bass, and has some dub reggae styled sound effects - all in all, an oddly enjoyable musical confection. The Belldog, on the other hand, sounds like a track from an Eno solo album - a perfectly good song in its own right, but not quite in keeping with the rest of the album. The instrumental tracks mostly recall the spacy soundscapes of Cluster & Eno, which itself called to mind the best moments of Another Green World and Music for Films. After the Heat is a strong album from a remarkably productive collaboration, and is highly recommended.

Eno, Moebius, Roedelius, Plank - Begegnungen

Artist: Eno, Moebius, Roedelius, Plank
P: 1984
The first composition on this compilation is by the famed Hans-Joachim Roedelius, who has many, many solo albums. This certain piece is very relaxing, almost new age sounding at times with great guitar and keyboards. "Two Oldtimers" is one of my favorite Moebius and Plank collaborations off of the album Rastakraut Pasta, if I remember correctly. I's very repetitive but highly enjoyable nonetheless. "The Belldog" is the only track to feature Eno's wonderful vocals."Nervos" is a track from Moebius's solo effort, Tonspuren. It too is repetitive, but nowhere near as enjoyable as "Two Oldtimers." "Pitch Control" is a very interesting techno piece created by Moebius, Plank, and Neumeier (from Guru Guru); it's another highlight of this particular album. "Dem Wanderer" is a Cluster tune, interesting, but still not as great as other Cluster compositions. The last track, "Schone Hande," is another Cluster and Eno collarboration and a great way to close of this album. We highly recomend this compilation to fans of Progressive Electronic music. This serves as a great sampler, and could be useful for the interested beginner or the experienced listener. Definitely four stars, would make a great edition to any Proggers collection. By the way, this album has been recently remastered, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find. Happy listening.

Hans Joachim Roedelius + Tim Story - Inlandish

Artist: Hans Joachim Roedelius & Tim Story
P: 2008
If you know Hans-Joachim Roedelius' albums, you will find a lot to like about this. Piano, much like that of Harold Budd, and some really great cello passages coming in and out over the music. A sequel to the acclaimed Lunz project, this follow-up finds Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Tim Story shedding their original collaborative moniker in favour of recording under their own names. It's great to hear the Cluster and Harmonia veteran in such fine form (he'll be 74 this year), making effortlessly graceful ambient music that still sounds like it's at the very forefront of the genre. Inlandish is bound to prompt comparisons to Ryuichi Sakamoto or Harold Budd for the glowing, meditative piano pieces at the heart of the record, but the kind of electronic treatments and additional instrumentation reaches beyond any single theme, with some compositions simply augmented by ghostly strands of cello, while others more fully embrace digital manipulation, as on 'Serpentining'; a melding of melodic piano and humming circuitry. Of course, there's some great synth work on the album too, particularly when it comes to the vintage krautrock tones of 'Beforst', a piece wonderfully redolent of Roedelius' past. Excellent.

Hans Joachim Roedelius - Durch die Wüste

Artist: Hans Joachim Roedelius
P: 1978 / 1995
Originally released in 1978, good CD reissue of Hans Joachim Roedelius's first solo work. Most probably know him simply by Roedelius,as a key member of Kluster and Harmonia.Tracks here that tend to stand out are "Am Rockzipfel",the fourteen-minute title cut "Durch die Wuste" and "Mr.Livingston". Nicely done neo-kraut, as some might describe it. Line-up:Roedelius-keyboards&vocals,Conrad Plank(R.I.P.)-guitar,fellow Kluster partner Dieter Moebius-synthesizer and Jaso Christo-drums.

Moebius + Roedelius - Apropos Cluster

Artist: Moebius,+ Roedelius
P: 1990 / 2014
Cluster (Dieter Moebius, Hans-Joachim Roedelius) are considered pioneers of electronic music and key Krautrock protagonists. In the late 1960s, together with Konrad Schnitzler as the trio Kluster, they changed the world of music for ever with their radical improvisations. Having split from Schnitzler, Moebius and Roedelius continued as Cluster, releasing eight further milestones of electronic and ambient music up until 1981, two of them with Brian Eno. A hiatus lasting almost a decade was brought to an end in 1990 when Cluster made a surprise comeback with "Apropos Cluster".

Mueller + Roedelius - Imagori

Artist: Müller + Roedelius
P: 2015
Collaboration between long time electronic/ambient musician Hans Joachim Roedilius and Christoph Mueller features tracks a step above ambient in beat, with a few uptempo tracks, including About Tape, which features Brian Eno. Eno's voice snippets are used, and I'm not sure if they are previous recordings or newly recorded.

Titled Origami, the sounds have a Japanese them running through them and lots of piano melodies carrying several of the tracks. I enjoyed all songs on the album and found it to have just the right balance of piano, ambient sounds, and upbeat electronic melodies.

Mueller + Roedelius - Imagori II

Artist: Müller + Roedelius
P: 2015
A collaboration of Hans-Joachim Roedelius (Harmonia & Cluster) and Christoph Mueller (Gotan Project). We witness new experiments on IMAGORI II that are well aware of the foundations they are built upon and that sometimes let us forget the present with their future-oriented perspective while never descending into pure escapism. The twelve tracks allow the listener to close his or her eyes and enter a dream that could not sound more beautiful – we experience this phantasm as IMAGORI II. It contains no fractures, merely passages that provide a plane on which something new emerges.

Qluster - Tasten

Artist: Qluster
P: 2015
QLUSTER are Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Onnen Bock and Armin Metz. "Tasten" is their fifth album. The trio explores the musical depths of three Steinway concert grands to their fullest potential. Spherical sounds of three overlapping instruments, complete with gentle tones and little melodies, sporadically culminating in impulsive sonic storms. A wonderful piece of "neo-classical" music by three masters of their art.

Roedelius + Celletti - Sustanza di Cosa Sperata

Artist: Hans Joachim Roedelius & Celletti
P: 2009
This is the result of a magical artistic encounter with a great master of contemporary music, Hans-Joachim Roedelius, with whom we have worked for months playing live concerts before deciding to move our musical experience from the stage to the recording studio. My piano intertwined with Roedelius's electronic suggestions and vice versa. Soon we shall get Sustanza out of the studio back on the live stage again.

Roedelius + Cole - Selected Studies Vol. 1

Artist: Hans Joachim Roedelius & Lloyd Cole
P: 2013
What a collaboration! The British singer-songwriter Lloyd Cole has always been a Cluster fan, especially of the 1976 LP "Sowiesoso". Cole released his own heavily Cluster-influenced album "Plastic Wood" in 2001. Roedelius liked it and, over the next decade, Cole and Roedelius considered working together from time to time, but never actually got around to it. It was not until 2011 when they finally met in Vienna that they could finally begin in earnest. The album reveals mature, carefully composed music, as if Cole and Roedelius had been working together for years already. Both artists focus on electronic sounds in a selection of succinct, direct pieces, free of musical garrulousness. Cole neither sings nor plays guitar and Roedelius rarely touches the keys of his grand piano. Instead, both musicians have developed a subtle soundscape which only drifts towards pure noise on one track. All of the other "studies" on the album move within a vast spectrum of harmonic wonder and rhythmic stepping stones.
