Eye of the Nautilus is similar to its predecessor tonally, but also explores some different themes and textures. Evocative electronic percussion is present at times, but overall the feel is one of deep-space ambience.
It is with good reason that Numina is one of the few names in ambient music to so quickly gain in reputation and prominence in this new millennium. His work evolves dramatically with each new release, and by now he has surely made the transition from "new name you should watch" to the status of "established artist." This is an album full of ideas, with a fresh and varied sound design.
Guest artist Rudy Adrian lends his trademark sound to the second track, "Secrets from the Flame," and as with Sanctuary of Dreams, R. Chris Fraley provides artwork, and Hypnos founder M. Griffin is responsible for mastering and layout. This is the fourth Hypnos CD release of 2005, and is sure to be one of the highlights of the year not only for Numina and Hypnos, but for the entire space & ambient music world.

This album,his first on the distinguised Hypnos label,continues his elegant sound and takes it even further. Contained within an intriguing cover there are ten tracks of darker,flowing, deep ambient music. Jesse uses synthesizer,guitars,vocals and processing to create his potent and mystical soundscapes. Here some highlights: Track 1,"Awaken Within A Deeper Dream" is a floating,swirling piece that sets the tone for the journey. Next is "Lost On Silica Ridge",with an epic, almost orchestral sound and some stately percussion. "Elements Of Time" follows, with smooth liquid flows and jewel like tones. After that is "In Loneliness The Landscape Fades", where a contemplative mood takes over in a slowly tumbling dreamscape. Track 5,"Beneath The Silver Surface" continues the dreamlike state with layers of synth and a watery background. "Thrown Into Oblivion" comes next, with magnificent synths and a divine interplay of treated voice and sustained drones. Track 7 is "Fractured Eyes",with droning swirling sounds and buried vocals. "Dream Recognition [Silhouette Of The Past] is next with a delicate far-off flute like melody over a long,sustained background. Tara Vanflower contributes lovely vocal samples on the ninth track "Lucid Ascension",an ethereal ocean of sleep ebbing and flowing. Distant bell-like sounds slowly fade into the last track,"The Waking Breath". As drones descend and increase in intensity,memories of the dreamworld linger and rustle as the adventure ends. This release marks the arrival of Numina on an even higher level. It's an essential work with superb timing and flow. Sound quality and production are outstanding, with mastering by Hypnos label owner Mike Griffin.This is a seamless masterpiece where spiritual feelings abound. Step out into the night with your headphones on, look into the sky and contemplate your place in the universe.

Numina's third album on Hypnos Recordings is "Shift to the Ghost," a long-form continuous piece with indexed track points. Each song is distinctly different in feel, but the songs evolve seamlessly into each other. Numina himself states that the album "is about the life and death of the physical self," hence the title. Whatever the concept, this album contains all the elements Numina fans enjoy, from deep and sombre ambient, to twinkling, swirling space music, constantly evolving. It's a long, fascinating visual journey, and it never grows tired. The latest work from ambient "rising star" Numina is possibly his best yet. HYPNOS

As with previous releases from Numina, the music on "Sound Symbols" is a beautiful soundscape suitable for drifting and dreaming, an emotional collection of work that stays with the listener long after the last notes have faded. I've been a fan of Jesse Sola's work for a number of years now, and "Sound Symbols" is a fine example of all the reasons that his music appeals to me so much. Highly recommended.
This release was recorded and remixed over a period of nearly 3 years. From early 2006 to late 2008 at the Mysterium, Denver, Colorado. Remixing, remastering, and re-recording performed in November 2008.

With twenty releases to his credit, Jesse Sola, the lone creative force behind Numina, has been crafting compositions of electronic ambient sound spaces for nearly two decades. During that extensive career, Numina has defined – and refined – a signature sound realized from a collection of hardware synthesizers, effects, and a custom modular Eurorack synth system.
The latest in this personal exploration of electronic expression is Numina’s debut solo release on the Spotted Peccary label, THE CHROMA PLATEAU. This spacey, ethereal journey is a deep listening experience where wondrous ambient-electronic spaces fill a vast sonic canvas, unleashing faraway and introspective states of mind. Complex synthesized evolutions, wispy bell tone soundscapes, and foundational analog drones coalesce into a complete presentation of ephemeral moments and expansive soundworlds. With its gentle use of minimal sequences and sparse compositions, THE CHROMA PLATEAU easily finds it’s place within the firmament of traditional spacemusic albums, and with track titles like “Intergalactic Traveler,” “Beaming Up The Fossils,” “Bringer of the Beings,” “Sky Descender,” and “Living in the Clouds,” the listeners thoughts may be tempted to imagine the heavens. However, even though there is some direction implied by the track titles themselves, Sola hopes to leave the details open for interpretation. “I never want to invoke any feeling, emotion, or direction on how my music should or should not be interpreted by the listener. This music is meant for any occasion the listener chooses – sleeping, hiking, star-gazing, philosophizing, commuting, etc. – a soundtrack for one’s current activity.” No matter how the listener chooses to interface with the music, THE CHROMA PLATEAU is most certainly filled with deeply inspiring and beautiful moments, constantly evolving as the scenery of Numina’s refined sonic palette unfurls to reveal a marvelous mosaic of colors and dreams.

The Deception of Reality is the fourth Numina release on Hypnos, the first since 2007's Shift to the Ghost. Still present is Numina's trademark sound, combining abstract deep-space textures with subtle melodic and rhythmic elements, but with a new emphasis on more vivid sonics. Listeners seeking smooth, creamy synthesizer background textures will still find them, here overlaid with more "up front" accents. Extra care has been taken in the mixing and mastering to preserve the separation and placement of individual instruments, and we believe the result is the best pure sound experience Numina has ever come up with.
As with the last Numina album, The Deception of Reality is a continuous, long-form ambient music piece of about 72 minutes, broken into five "tracks" for listening convenience. Unlike much long-form ambient, this sound work is ever-changing, continually evolving in mood and sound texture, bringing in new instruments while fading out old ones. Despite its continuous format, the album is so varied across its duration that most listeners would likely never notice they're listening to a single unbroken piece.
Numina is vague about the meaning of the title, which could be taken in any of several ways. Some hint may be derived from the Albert Einstein quote within the liner notes: "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."
We at Hypnos sincerely believe this to be the best Numina work yet, sure to please his existing fans while perhaps engaging with some new listeners as well.
