Acheloo - Dream

Artists: Acheloo
P: 2013
'Dream' is yet another gorgeous space music voyage from Acheloo, whose music continues to amaze with its originality and emotional depth. Fans of the ambient, drifting style electronic space music will find much to enjoy here. Indeed, the wonderful combination of strings and pads, deep swirling atmospherics and electric guitar make for a potent mix that engulfs the senses. As with earlier releases, the music is hauntingly beautiful, but with a darker edge that drifts along effortlessly and with clear purpose. The music has such an incredible feel and an undertow that captures the imagination, transporting the listener to faraway places in time and space. To say it's awesome would be an understatement!

Acheloo - Ishtar

Artists: Acheloo
P: 2008
This is a wonderfully dark, but at the same time beautiful album of ambient electronica. From the opening moments of "Earths Mistress" with its menacing John Carpenter style sequence, the listener is hooked.
Strangely ethereal and cosmic, this is music for dark nights with the lights dimmed; haunting and hauntingly beautiful, yet somehow menacing without ever being unsettling. Carlo Luzi's superb musical soundscapes walk the thin line between the creative genius of new music and genuinely superb creative atmospheric music without ever allowing the listeners attention to wander. Indeed, it's the ability of the composer to keep the listener transfixed that is the true testament to the music's brilliance.
"The Fate of Everything" and "Nimbus of Stars" are both excursions into atmospheric electronica, recalling early Tangerine Dream, while "Ishtar" parts one and two gently caress the senses with sounds and exquisite nuances that drift effortlessly by in classic ambient electronica style. Just like the superb "Sirens" album, Carlo's excellent guitar and percussion add a dimension to the music that lifts it way above similar music of the genre.
An absolute gem!

Acheloo - Khimaira

Artists: Acheloo
P: 2009
Khimaira is the third release by Italian guitarist/keyboard maestro Acheloo, and it follows the same wonderfully haunting and etherial style of ambient electronica as the first two. Acheloo has a rare talent for making interesting and thought provoking minimalist ambient soundscapes using electronic music sounds and electric guitar that envelope and embrace the listener with a beauty the verges on the darkside.
The music calmly washes over the listener, and titles like "Constant Perceptions", "The Semblance of a Dream" and "Impalpable Shadow of Evening" are space music gems that drift effortlessly by just as the titles imply. You're transported to vistas both mysterious and beautiful by the incredible pull of the music that retains interest without ever actually breaking into a discernible melody. Unique, extraordinary and utterly brilliant!

Acheloo - Sirens

Artists: Acheloo
P: 2008
"Sirens" is an ambient electronic music album of genuine passion. Beautifully produced and cosmic on an epic scale, the music washes over the listener as if floating in a sea of tranquility and calm. However, this is not your usual ambient fare. It is a superb and quite unique mixture of electronics and guitar with wonderful nuances of sound. The music weaves between soundscapes of beauty, calm, cosmic spaces and dark emptiness that crosses between the mysterious visions of early Tangerine Dream and the cosmic landscapes of 'Dreamtime Return' by Steve Roach.
The seven tracks on Sirens all have an 'edge' that is so often missing in this genre of music, and that edge is supplied by the color and variation of Carlo's superb guitar or reed percussion. The listener is left floating serenely; a female voice in the distance, guitar textures imbuing the music with a mixture of dark and light, color and shade, beauty and melancholy. The musical journey drifts and sways effortlessly, but never loses sight of its purpose.
Sirens is a masterpiece of ambient electronic music.

Various Artists - The First Snow

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2010
There are Christmas albums, and then there are Christmas albums. "ChristmasAD - The First Snow" is an outstanding collection of instrumental Christmas music that's appeal is that everyone is going to enjoy it!
A good Christmas album should contain some old classics plus some familiar pop titles to warm you on a cold winter evening as you sit by the fireside. So on this collection there are eight favourites, expertly re-imagined, plus eleven brand new Christmas songs that perfectly reflect the Christmas spirit.
"The Dancing Snowman" by David Wright & Geigertek is delightfully OTT and perfectly starts proceedings, and what follows is pure bliss! Steve Barnes and RamsayGee provide real romantic heart with five beautiful pieces: Steve's being the classic favourites "Little Town of Bethlehem", "Good King Wenceslas" and "God Rest ye Merry Gentlemen" and Gareth's being the sublime self penned "First Snow" and "Season's Wish". Catalin Marin returns with his epic, ethnic influenced "A Star in the East", and new artists Claudio Merlini and The Pels Syndicate contribute a stunning melodic track each with "Christmas Wonderland" and "Xmas5" respectively. Richard Bone provides two glorious covers in "Do You Hear What I Hear" and "Donde Esta Santa Claus?" while Acheloo and Robert Fox provide beautifully moody interpretations of "White Christmas" and "Silent Night". Al Rudd's "The Magic of Christmas?" provides the albums glorious "Tim Burton" influenced moment (think "A Nightmare at Christmas"!) while Lord of the Ants provides an atmospheric acoustic number that perfectly reflects "Christmas In New York". David Wright's rhythmic electronic version of "We Three Kings" and Bekki Williams beautifully orchestrated "Where is Santa?" end the album perfectly. The sound of children's laughter briefly open and close the album, reminding us perhaps that Christmas is about peace and good will reflected in the joy and laughter of innocence.
The collective artists on the label have really excelled here, presenting an emotive and memorable collection of Christmas tunes that delicately, and without exception, successfully walk the line between feel good melodic music and contemporary, creative, classically influenced new age/electronic music.
Beautifully recorded and produced, this is one classy album that is destined to run and run.
