Geodesium

Mark C. Petersen is unquestionably the most prolific composer for the medium, and the GEODESIUM name has become synonymous with planetarium music. Since 1975, he has recorded and produced soundtracks for more than 50 planetarium shows, with presentations at more than 900 planetaria in the U. S. and 50 other countries. Mark has also performed live in concerts at major planetarium facilities in the U.S. and Great Britain. GEODESIUM albums are popular items in planetarium gift shops.Mark uses electronic keyboards, samplers and synthesizers to create his unique brand of planetarium space music. From verdant planetscapes to flights of fantasy through deep space, the music portrays magnificent visions of the universe. Relaxing yet provocative, GEODESIUM stylings embody "traditional" space music — that ethereal, beautifully floating music that characterizes the genre — as well as more dynamic and rhythmic sonic odysseys that transcend their "new age" and e-music heritage. Mark infuses all his music with rich textures that are the signature of the Geodesium sound.

Geodesium - Anasazi

Artist: Geodesium
P: 1993
Released in December 1993, this album contains two half-hour impressionistic "suites" of music with a Southwestern flavor. The "Anasazi" suite prominently features sampled sounds of flutes, drums and voices in addition to the synthesizers. The "Aztec" suite intermingles guitars and pan flutes with wind chimes, percussion, voices and harp. The music should appeal to those who enjoy 'world music' and even 'Native' music, in addition to the electronic-instrumental music and New Age devotee. This album has also been featured on the radio shows "Musical Starstreams", "Echoes", and on many public and college stations around the world.

Geodesium - Arcturian Archives

Artist: Geodesium
P: 2011

In 1980s and 1990s, Mark C. Petersen created some custom Geodesium music for some special planetarium shows — part system demos and part cosmic journey. The resulting soundtracks influenced his musical stylings in seminal ways, cementing in the minds of many his place as one of the top space music composers for domed theater shows.
This album captures the musical tenor of those times. The works contained on Arcturian Archives are full-fledged music projects created about the same time as West of the Galaxy and Fourth Universe — two of his most popular albums. Many of these tracks have never been heard before, outside of the few planetarium performances for which they were commissioned. And there are three elaborate renditions of popular orchestral works, given unique Geodesium sound stylings.

Geodesium - Double Eclipse

Artist: Geodesium
P: 1981 / 1999

Double Eclipse, the second GEODESIUM album, was produced in 1981. NASA used some of the selections during its TV coverage of the Voyager Encounters at Saturn and Uranus. It consists of nine electronically-realized musical compositions. Of the five original works, one is a clever bouncy tune featuring two electronic "dancers" and a synthesizer rock drummer. Two space-music-style pieces musically explore the inter-galactic reaches. Another work is a driving and intense rocker, and one is the world's first electronic-disco-bluegrass combination — a real toe-tapper! There are four transcriptions: J. S. Bach and Johannes Pachelbel for the classical music enthusiast, and two contemporary works by Wilke Renwick and W. Francis McBeth.
Until 1999, the album was available only as a vinyl LP. But we've remastered it for those GEODESIUM fans desiring a complete collection. Plus, we've added a bonus track not on the original album, a 6-minute piece called Lightspell. First recorded as entrance music for the 1980 version of the planetarium show "Light Years From Andromeda," only a couple dozen copies were distributed, so it's a rarity!

Geodesium - Geodesium

Artist: Geodesium
P: 1977 / 1999

GEODESIUM, the eponymous first album, consists of electronic music recorded at Fiske Planetarium from 1975 to 1977. At the request of many pleased planetarium patrons who had inquired about obtaining the music they had heard in the shows, Mark put together an album of the most popular selections. He used only two instruments on the album: the EMS Synthi AKS (a suitcase-sized synthesizer with a painted-on capacitance-sensing strip for keys) and a Mellotron, so the music is quite analog and 70s-sounding.
The original vinyl LP and its first reprint were sold out by 1980. In 1999, we remastered it for those GEODESIUM fans desiring a complete collection. Plus, there's now a bonus track not included on the original album, a 9-1/2 minute "orchestration" of a Mozart work, 12 Variations on the theme 'Ah, vous dirai-je, Maman' — the tune we know today as "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." Only a couple dozen copies were distributed to planetaria as entrance music, so it's a rarity!

Geodesium - Music from Space Park 360

Artist: Geodesium
P: 2010

In Music from SpacePark360, Geodesium takes you on a wild ride — with elements of acid, house, techno, trance, electronica, and flat-out kick-butt rock — cranking up the tempo to create eleven sonic blasts. It's a delirious auditory thrill ride of epic proportions, a headlong cosmic rush to the planetary hot spots of the solar system.
Music from SpacePark360 is unlike the planetarium space music you've heard on previous albums. Sure, hard-core Geodesium fans may recognize some familiar sounds emanating the synthesizer racks. But, you can turn the amp up to 11, and dance and wail on your air guitar to these driving beats.
This energetic music comes from the fulldome thrill-ride project we worked on with Dome3D, now playing as SpacePark360: Geodesium Edition at finer dome theaters around the world. Music from SpacePark360 features a mix without all the roller coaster sound effects, and with an ear for what makes sense musically reigning supreme over matching the visual hit points.
Prepare for exhiliration!

Geodesium - Stella Novus

Artist: Geodesium
P: 2011

If the Hubble Space Telescope could sing about the cosmic discoveries it has made, this tranquil and moving suite of space music would be its symphony of discovery. Each piece takes the listener on a shining path through the cosmic web of existence, past newborn stars, starbirth nebulae, frozen clouds of light, and into the very heart of our galaxy. Let Geodesium Stella Novus transform your perceptions of the cosmos just as Hubble has extended our view across the vastness of space. There are nine gloriously spacey pieces, mixed as stand-alone features. The album also offers an incredible bonus track: seven of the featured tracks are mixed into a 30-minute-long concert. It's the soundtrack music from one of Loch Ness Productions' most popular planetarium shows, HUBBLE Vision, for you to enjoy without dialog or narration. It's a chance to hear how the compositions were designed to flow from one to another with interstitial music, providing context for how they all relate to each other.
Bask in the music and immerse yourself in a special aural tour through the wonders of the universe
