Alpha Lyra

Christian Piednoir has always pursued a dual artistic activity. A professional photographer and a passion for electronic music led him to approach Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre, Bernd Kistenmacher, Tim Blake and others, at concerts, or in private situations. These meetings, and listening to this style of music for so many years, made a personal musical project was born. Alpha Lyra was born in 2005. With his passion for astronomy, Christian chose this name, because the star Alpha Lyra (also called "Vega") is the brightest of the only constellation representing a musical instrument.
The musical univers developed by Christian is very deep and sensitive. Despite the influence of his masters, he takes the listener through a very personal space travel.
Christian is now considered of the most "cosmic" French electronic musicians.

AlphaLyra - Aquarius

Artist: AlphaLyra
P: 2006
Behind his instruments the musician give a real emotion in this second album, AlphaLyra. A long chord leads to an unexpected arpeggio. At times, you are close to heartbreak and stiring eruptions you use to find in Klaus Schulze's work. The third and most original piece of the album suggests an "ambient music" style, result of a Brian Eno and Phil Glass meeting. The fourth and longest piece of the CD (22mn) immerses the listener in a true aquatic univers. Incompatible musics, as minimalists songs and rich strings and choir chords, are mixed here with succes by AlphaLyra.

AlphaLyra - From Berlin to Paris

Artist: AlphaLyra
P: 2013
From Berlin to Paris is... a dreamlike journey through Electronic Music meanders. A tribute to Berlin, Capital of the musical culture during the 70', then a comeback to Paris, Capital of Arts and Kosmische Musik zealot. A romantic odyssey, starting with the very first Moog rustlings, then flying by synthetic ambiences of today.
Klaus, Manuel and Edgar musics still continue, today, to make me dream and, in the quietness of my musical ideas, I remember all those meetings we had, sharing some drink around a table or in the intimacy of a studio, friends and masters. Together.
From Berlin to Paris is dedicated to all of you who share the same love for that music that came to us, someday, from another world...

AlphaLyra - Full Colours

Artist: AlphaLyra
P: 2021

FULL COLOURS is five titles portraying the personal, intimate and sensitive universes of Christian PIEDNOIR, alias ALPHA LYRA. This ninth solo album was born out of the tumultuous period that we have all experienced over the last 18 months. It moves between worry and the fear of an uncertain future, but ultimately there are notes of hope, the certainty of a future that will be brighter and full of colour once again. For colour is a part of our lives and notably the ‘reason being’ for all creatives, be they musicians or visual artists. Christian PIEDNOIR vivaciously navigates his way between these two worlds, be it behind his keyboards or in front of his paintings. Each title of FULL COLOURS lasts between 12 and 17 minutes, the time necessary to immerse oneself totally and relax into the orchestral armchair offered by ALPHA LYRA. Intertwined sequences, silky layers, melodies and rhythms combine to offer thoughtful and accomplished music, a tender mix between ambient, Berlin School and “joyful electro”. Some will hear Wagnerian accents or a few intonations reminiscent of Chopin. The album cover was not chosen without reason... The work reproduced is "Contemplation Dufy" by Amanda Rackowe, painter and companion to Christian. This large triptych was inspired by a visit to the Museum of Modern Art in Paris when the artist found herself facing the monumental and coloured fresco, “La Fée Électricité”, executed by Raoul Dufy. Electricity and electronics, there was only one small step for Christian to take to link the painting and his music.

AlphaLyra - Music for the Stars

Artist: AlphaLyra
P: 2005
Full of synthetic and repetitive musics since the seventies, Christian Piednoir, alias AlphaLyra, composed Music for the stars in 2006. With this first album, you can feel a real predilection for "cosmic music". With 5 titles, this album is an homage paid to the stars, where the music is so wide with strings, and with silky sequential choirs. Deep and paradisiac sequences reveal electronic gimmicks. Sometimes cyclic music after Steve Reich's or Phil Glass's manner, other times complex music like Klaus Schulze's, Music for the stars is a delight for the ears.

AlphaLyra - Music for the Stars 2

Artist: AlphaLyra
P: 2010
"Music for the Stars II" is the continuation of the project Alpha Lyra, started in 2005. The seven new titles are once again inspired by the cosmos and some stars that have struck my imagination, because of their specificity, or their name. Myzar and Alcor are beautiful double stars of the constellation Ursa Major. Sirius (Alpha Canis Majoris) is the brightest star in the sky. It takes about eight years for its light to reach us. The Barnard'star is the star that has the largest proper motion. Located at a distance of 6 light-years, it is the fifth closest star to Earth after the Sun and the triple star Alpha Centauri. La Superba is a star barely visible to the naked eye in the constellation of Canum Venaticorum. Its brightness varies over a period of 160 days. This is one of the reddest stars in the night sky. Cygnus X-1 is located in the constellation Cygnus, at 8000 light years from our solar system. Its characteristic is to be in orbit around a black hole X-ray emitting.

AlphaLyra - Sailing over the Sea

Artist: AlphaLyra
P: 2023
The idea of “Sailing over the sea” was born during a trip to England, while flying over the Atlantic coast. This vision of clouds seeming to hover a few meters above the surface of the sea, lit by a sumptuous and generous golden light of a setting sun was a real trigger for a title and the theme of the album.
The construction of the pieces is based on what I have always liked to do.
Set up an atmosphere slowly so that the listener feels carried away by the emotions that I wish to convey. We find very elaborate sounds in their structures, calm breaks which allow us to breathe between complex sequences, but also contributions of rhythms which give relief.
This new CD is a continuity in my musical evolution.
There are no big changes, but certainly different emotions are behind the use of sometimes vintage sounds, or sequences that can recall the complexities of those created by Klaus in these last productions.

AlphaLyra - Ultime Atome

Artist: AlphaLyra
P: 2017
Drone like Ambient with some slight sequences.

The theme of this CD is an immersion in the microscopic world of atoms, in search of the one that is not yet known!
"Physicists are rarely poetic when it comes to naming atomic particles ! And the names of the temporary atoms are even less so. These purely theoretical atoms do not exist naturally, but researchers are convinced that they will bring them to life. They will then change their surname, and will generally take the name of the discoverer. They are called Uuu 111 for Ununium (un = 1 + 1 + 1), Uub 112 for Ununbium (1 + 1 + bi = 2), Uut 113 for Ununtrium (1 + 1 + 3 = tri), etc.
Scientific but not very glamorous !Uun 119 is not yet part of history, it must be at the bottom of a notebook of a brilliant physicist...  And what about the “ultimat atom” ? The particle that germinates in the brain of a mad scientist, or a mere dreamer, or maybe in the imagination of an electronic musician ? "

Various Artists - Dreams of my Space

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2008

Someone who believes that one can find the best electronic music only on already published CDs, might perhaps be proved wrong. Maybe you have not noticed the many artists without record contract, presenting their music on the Internet, especially on MySpace.com. Here you can find several undiscovered talents presenting themselves with often amazingly good music. Sometimes, even in comparison to professional releases, you can find extraordinary good music, which is worth-while to be published and also worth-while to be supported to gain much more attention. Motivated by this point of view, the idea for a compilation series with international artists of the EM came into being. On the first CD DREAMS OF MY SPACE - Vol.1 artists from Denmark, Finland, France, Spain, Australia and Germany are presented. Endowed and undiscovered talents who create these soundsculptures, which shift us into most pleasing and magic moods that were played with synthesizers, computers and electronics. "Thanx For The Add" is an idiom on MySpace.com which is a kind of "thank you message" for the admission as a friend. ROBERT SCHROEDER, the producer of the compilation, also says "Thanx For The Add" to the artists, because their co-operation made these marvelously spherical and relaxing CD possible at all.The Frenchman KRISTALIUM is one of the highlights and surely should have a promising future. He creates simple, bizarre soundscapes with clear, simple and accessible melodies - earworms. However McCartnoTron from Germany reminds one rather of KRAFTWERK and his song "Unterseeboot" (submarine) is a new and interesting kind of vocoder music. Guido Negraszus lives in Australia and is represented with two tracks on that CD. Fantastic guitar melodies are combined with clearly structured basics, simply doing good in a beautiful sound, one comes into momentum, drifting into far-away thoughts. As a bonus track, the title "Kopenhaachen" from Nattefrost is added. The track is a co-production of Björn Jeppesen and Robert Schroeder, the only artists on the CD which already own a contract with a record company.

Various Artists - Electronic Music for Life

All new titles compsed for this compilation.
On March 11th, 2011, Japan had to experience the most powerful earthquake of its history. Pictures of the following Tsunami were seen around the world. This natural catastrophe caused extensive and long lasting consequences. In one word: Fukushima.
Ten thousands of people died, hundred thousands are homeless. Families, children and old people are fighting for their livelihood. The world is shocked and takes share in the fate of the concerned. The quiet and proud japanese people welcome this solace. But even a country like Japan cannot manage the enormous challenges alone. Therefore, the consoling words have to be followed by action!
Based on this thought, Mellowjet-Records started the project "Electronic Music FOR LIFE" shortly after the catastrophe. The idea was to release a compilation and to donate the complete revenue to a charitable organisation. The response and readiness of the addressed artists to support this project was overwhelming. So, INTERDISC agreed to sponsor the first release of a double-cd-production. Even more artists joint the project.
The Eroc Mastering Ranch offered a free audio mastering. Company Rebeat offered the free digital marketing and added a special sponsoring package. A survey among the participating artists confirmed, that the revenue should be donated to the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz (DRK). Due to this remarkable development the DRK was convinced to support this project by allocating their logo. Within a few weeks only, Mellowjet-Records was able to compile and produce an excellent, 150 minutes long double-cd which involves all faces
of contemporary electronic music. Most of the 27 songs from 27 different bands and musicians have been composed exclusively for this project.
Only to mention some: Robert Schroeder, Eroc, Bernd Kistenmacher, Rolf Maier Bode, Harald Grosskopf, Mythos, Matthias Beine, Wellenfeld, Dithmar, moonbooter, Uwe Reckzeh, Spyra and many, many more. Besides dreamy sequences of Berlin School, powerful chorals, piano-ballades, orchestral works and danceable electronic music this double-cd offers as well experimental pieces, synthiepop, spacerock, chillout and ambient
music. Thus, this album should be part of every collection!
All artists as well as the label waive their share of profits. The whole revenue from sales of the double-cd and downloads will be donated to a project of the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz and will support the people in Japan directly.
Please support the victims in Japan by buying this album. Even if the world tends to forget quickly: the misery will remain in the everyday life of the people in Japan for a very long time.
Thank you very much!
