“Dreamscape” is an impressive album from the Norwegian composer, offering up a powerful and moody excursion into the filmic, atmospheric and slow building side of his style that was so successful on the excellent 2008 debut, “The White Peak”. Indeed, as good as that album was, “Dreamscape” is a far more focussed and self assured work, presenting an original and evocative 60 minutes of melodic, layered synth and vocal textures. There are some effective rhythm and sequence sections throughout and these are used both sparingly and to great effect as the interesting musical ideas, great themes and clever changes of pace gently lead the listener through the 10 musical soundscapes. Wim has cleverly built upon his obvious strengths from the first album and “Dreamscapes” is one very classy offering indeed! Will appeal to fans of electronic space music and melodic new age.

Wim is the brainchild of Ketil Lien, one of a trio of very different sounding Norwegian artists who release through AD Music.  His latest offering is ‘Enchanted Journey’, a hugely creative journey through sound and motion. The music is often dense and yet it has amazing depth and clarity. When rhythms come into play they are both clever and unfussy – yet pleasing, doing what the music requires and never detracting from the melodic substance. The music also has a dark edge to it, and while never threatening, it is captivating!  The 10 tracks flirt between the melodically thematic, with passing references to Vangelis, and the very best of darker, spaced-out ambient space music. Indeed, there is a richness to the sound and style of Wim’s music; here is an artist who has clearly developed a unique style that identifies him immediately as ‘Wim’. So it’s no wonder his music is slowly finding more favour amongst the discerning ambient, electronic music fans. It has been several years since his last release, and ‘Enchanted Journey’ is a stunning return that will please fans and critics alike.

A well constructed, well recorded and emotively compelling work that combines a variety of tempos and styles combining sequences, rhythms, atmospherics and memorable themes that recall all that is best in electronic music. Wim's music has many influences, from our own Robert Fox and David Wright, to Tangerine Dream and Hans Zimmer, and those influences are clearly evident throughout this excellent album.
But Wim has developed his own unique signature sound and style to produce a totally cohesive and satisfying album with a warmth and emotion that draws the listener in. The originality of the music here is quite exceptional as the artist employs great themes on tracks like Econ but is also willing to stretch himself with adventurous impressionistic pieces like the fabulous title track. "The White Peak" is an excellent release with many high points that is recommended for lovers of quality electronic music.
