Hans Joachim Roedelius + Tim Story - Lazy Arc

Artist: Hans Joachim Roedelius & Tim Story
P: 2014
LTD 750

A limited edition signed and numbered by the artists, in a stunning large-format package.
Lazy Arc is the fourth album by Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Tim Story, reflecting both 15 years of musical collaboration and 30 years of friendship.
Recorded at Tim’s home studio in Ohio during the same sessions that produced their acclaimed albums Lunz and Inlandish, but strikingly different in both form and mood from those albums‘ meticulously constructed chamber music.
Lazy Arc is a 50 minute, seven part suite shaped from the sessions’ more ethereal moments, the intuitive playing that happens upon a beautiful sonic texture, and then sustains until it becomes its own form. The sound of Roedelius’ piano and keyboard playing, long beloved by the many fans of his work with Cluster and Harmonia, is at the center of the music – the revolving chords and graceful melodies will be familiar to anyone who has heard his solo Selbstportrait albums. Here, that sound is subtly and progressively altered and augmented by Story’s electronics, often in real time, weaving a stranger fabric. Story’s careful editing creates a flow out of these discretely floating moments, slowly building, and saving its deepest moments for the very end – the final two movements, almost surprisingly simple and effortlessly beautiful, stand as career highlights in either musician’s long and celebrated discographies .

„World of Quetzal“ escorts the listener with NewAge-, Ethno- and soft Percussion sounds to the world of Quetzal. The album is carried by soft, catchy melodies and persuades through perfectly staged pop-sound-appearing arrangements. With numerous still interesting sounds, effects and a dose of electronical additions, Harald Grosskopf created a highly interesting album that convinces not only through the music but also through the sound.

The album has been remastered with high technical effort and the ethnical artwork has been replaced.

Harold Budd - By the Dawn's Early Light

Artist: Harold Budd
P: 1991
Always an outlier, Harold Budd enjoys confounding conventional wisdom about ambient music, new age, what have you. Hence his decision in the early '90s to record an album, for Brian Eno's Opal label, devoted to the American landscape--an album of often vaporous melodies intent on figuring the land's geography and history. Budd's a self-admitted devotee of soundtrack composer Ennio Morricone, and his titles alone help conjure the mythical west ("Distant Lights of Olancha Recede," "Place of Dead Roads"), as well as its odd, modern developments ("Aztec Hotel"). Occasional spoken material, a kind of existential cowboy poetry read by Budd, benefits from guitarist Bill Nelson and pedal-steel player B. J. Cole, not to mention viola, harp, and the composer's own array of keyboards. --Marc Weidenbaum

Heimann - Strange Delight 94

Artist: Heimann
P: 1994
The influence of New Age and electronic is dominant but you have also influences of Rock and Pop Music. It is accessible electronic music complemented with some accoustic instruments.
The arrangement is weel-rounded, the rhythms do fit well, the solo and lead keyboard lines are completely well done. Rudolf Heimann knows his business. He joins his clear-cut melodies and sometimes rocking rhythms together to seven exciting instrumentals.
Third position at the Schwingungen-poll 1993 (best Newcomer of the year)

Higher Intelligence Agency - Polar Sequences

Artist: Higher Intelligence Agency
P: 1995
In October 1995, as part of the annual Polar Music Festival, Geir Jenssen of Biosphere and Bobby Bird of The Higher Intelligence Agency, were commissioned by Nor Concerts to collaborate together on a musical project to take place in Geir's home town of Tromsø, Norway. The brief was for them to perform three concerts, using sounds sourced from the area as the basis of the music - the machinery of the local mountain cable lift, the snow, the ice etc…

The performances from which this recording is taken, took place on top of a mountain above Tromsø, in a cabin reached by the cable car, in which the audience were transported up the mountain in turn.'

Himekami - Kaze No Jyomon

Artist: Himekami
P: 1996
Kaze no Johmon is a wonderful CD for anyone who has a love of Japanese style music, be it modern or ancient. Though the tracks on the disk tend to have mostly archaic Japanese overtones, some contemporary undercurrents are in evidence. An excellent CD to listen to whilist relaxing, or looking for a bit of inspiration to get that new art project underway, Kaze no Johmon is a unique addition to any collection. The tracks contain ethereal melodies with modern, almost techno accents. Many instruments and effects are used. In one track you may be able to hear violins, vocals, a synthesized melody, and a cello all together. It blends to create a wonderful effect which is futuristic, yet age-old at the same time.

Live recording of Hiroki Okano in world heritage basement shrine of Malta which floated in the Mediterranean Sea. It is said, that it is the base of the Atlantis myth, and a kind recorded in the burial mound that the eternal history named the ream was carved with from B.C. 3600 is the work which gathered up the tone of a rare flute, the prayer of the chant. Please enjoy a stone and a sound of the resonance of the air that the ancient times and modern technology produce.

Howard Armitage - Tranquil Water

Artist: Howard Armitage
P: 2000
Unlike many of the more prolific artists in contemporary medative music, Howard offers a stunning spiritual album creating introspective music full of subtle beauty, at times quite delicate. Throughout the music encompasses a feeling of great beauty woven together in pure ecstasy, If it possible to perfect the craft of evoking human feelings then this is it. You will be carried away by 'Tranquil Water' overflowing with the qualities of peace and tranquillity.
Sometimes, you CAN judge a book by its cover. The full moon over the water on the front cover, with the phrase "Music to relax the Spirit." A unicorn on the back cover. Titles like 'The Calm,' 'At Peace,' and 'Be Still' don't suggest sequencer-infused rhythmic passages, and indeed they are not. This is peaceful, soothing music with a decidedly new age bent, complete with bird noises and loads of water sounds.
If you like soft, sweeping synths, mixed with light bells and nature sounds, then you should find this disc appealing. Though mostly electronic in nature, the music does strive to convey a sense of emotion and passion. And though the sounds and themes are nothing that hasn't been done before, I suppose it does succeed in this regard. In fact, you would be hard-pressed to be anything but relaxed and calm after listening to this CD. This is early morning music for quiet reflection. Either that, or music for meditation. Armitage clearly can play, as demonstrated by the piano in 'Calling,' which is simple but quite beautiful. Other than this, though, most of the disc relies on large doses of lush synth strings and pads. Acoustic guitar makes a brief appearance on 'Big Blue,' interspersed with very bright, tinkling electronics. 'Drifting' is appropriately titled, as synth oboe strains waft over more atmospherics. Fans of more emotive Vangelis works may enjoy this CD, and it should really appeal to fans of music in the traditional new age style. (PD)
