This soulful debut album of Stefan Biermann on FAX sounds like a recording resulting from a phonecall with your subconsciousness. Pure in its form and energy the sounds span from Environmental to Techhouse, minimalistic Jungle and melodic, spheric insights. Gerald Jay Markoe - Music from the Pleiades

Artist: Gerald Jay Markoe
P: 1989
Music for star gazers, planetariums and meditation. The Pleiades are a beautiful and brilliant cluster of stars in the constellation of Taurus. I have a large picture of them in my recording studio, and sometimes when I look at this picture, I am inspired to compose music, which is very different from anything I have ever composed or heard before. This album is a collection of these pieces.
The Pleiades are the subject of many ancient legends. For example, the Torajas, a primitive tribe in Indonesia, build saucer shaped temples in remembrance of their ancestors who "came here from the Pleiades in saucer shaped ships a very long time ago." In numerous reports of extraterrestrial encounters from different parts of the world the space beings indicate the Pleiades as their place of origin. For some reason many people feel a strong connection with the Pleiades. Perhaps, as the legends say, we are descendants of Pleiadian cosmonauts who settled here aeons ago before the dawn of history. I don’t claim to know this for sure, but I do know that I love the Pleiades and that my "contact" with them through the picture in my studio, seeing them in the sky, and reading ancient legends about them, inspired this album.

Gerald Jay Markoe - Music of the Angels II

Artist: Gerald Jay Markoe
P: 1995

This melodic synthesizer music will have you floating on a cloud. Markoe begins the album with just such melody: its delicate harp seems to tiptoe past an angel choir humming a lullaby. What makes this piece "special" is a slightly thunderous bassline.

Gert Emmens + Ruud Heij - Journey

Artist: Gert Emmens & Ruud Heij
P: 2007

3rd CD of the two collaborating. Excellent sequences and soloing.

The title track gets things going with strange effects that are soon replaced by a classic sequence, joined by another one and yet another one after a few seconds. Mellotron choir plays a chord typical of Gert - somewhat melancholic, emotional and a bit "romantic". A piercing analog solo then joins the flow. Great Berlin School track in typical Emmens & Heij style.

Gert Emmens - Nearest Faraway Place Vol. 1

Artist: Gert Emmens
P: 2008

The new album contains one very long track of about 71 minutes, but we will place a number of 7 trackmarks in it, to make it more attractive for the listeners and the radiostations.
In August 2007 Gert Emmens had a computer crash and lost about 110 minutes of new solo music (with a lot of tracks having a symphonic character) and about an hour of Emmens & Heij music. When preparing for a concert, the Dutchman decided to try to recapture the music that was in his head and to postpone the symphonic pieces.
“Existing” pieces were added with new ideas. This lead to a piece of music of approximate 70-75 minutes long. The title ”The Nearest Faraway Place” was one Gert wanted to use for a long time. It is an inspiring, mystical, title. One that was used earlier by the Beach Boys, one of Gert’s favorite bands. Volume 1 means that there will also be a Volume 2 and Volume 3.
”The Nearest Faraway Place” is Gert’s most “Berliner Schule” album until now. Everything is there: the sequences, the Mellotron sounds, the MiniMoog solos, the atmospheres and Gert’s ancient drumboxes. But, most of all, his melodically approach of electronic music is there. To make the tracks more radio-friendly, it was decided to use track-indexes. A somewhat new thing for Gert is the use of a guitarist in the name of Jan Dieterich. He does a great job adding some excellent solos which sometimes gives a little hint of Pink Floyd.
”The Nearest Faraway Place 1” has become Gert’s best album. And there are still two volumes to go!

Ginkgo Garden - Leaves of Hope

Artist: Ginkgo Garden
P: 1993

This first Ginkgo Garden album is entrancing tribute to the amazing phenomenon of the Ginkgo tree. At over 250 million years old, it is the oldest tree on planet Earth. The ginkgo biloba is a resistant survivor and stands for hope of peace; its leaves heal and their symmetrical heart shape symbolizes harmony, as they unite seeming differences: male / female, East / West, loud / low, one / double...
“Leaves of Hope” reflects the ancient mysticism of the ginkgo tree and the soothing electronic ambiences of contemporary times. Inspiration and emotion are transposed into music and the listener's imagination is set free to be carried away on a relaxing journey through the Ginkgo Garden.

Glyn Lloyd-Jones - Ocean of Serenity

Artist:Glyn Lloyd-Jones
P: 1994

This album was created 4 years after 'Icesteps' and was rightly hailed by many as his most inspired work to date. Considering the quality of his previous albums, the fact that he seems to "raise the ante" with each release is amazing.Glyn's previous works displayed his uncanny ability to harmonise sequences with breathtaking melodies. 'Ocean of Serenity' continues this approach and the title track, like so much of Glyn's work, is based around a stunningly beautiful yet simple theme which manifests itself in many guises. The opening refrains build to a climax then relax to a solitude which initially hints at, then leads into, the sequenced section. Here a rhythm is woven around a trademark synth lead which embellishes the main theme. A quality opening.'An Alternative Reality' is again based around a superb chord sequence which Glyn seems to reel off at will. The way the sequence interacts with the main theme is a revelation. Initially the sequence is fired off in harmonic packets, to great effect, before being let loose. The whole thing works magnificently and is probably the highlight of the album ... along with the next track. If 'Return Flite' was described in its constituent parts one would not believe that such a concoction could work. Laid back synth themes combine with complex sequences, a cuckoo-like call sits alongside a guitar axe, choral voices mingle with bass rhythms. Pipey synth, flutey synth, reedy synth, synthy synth! It's all here bar the proverbial... and it all sounds fantastic.'Xiological Sky' is very much a follow on from his previous album 'Icesteps'. The glassy synth leads combine superbly with the sequences which increase in complexity as the track draws to a close. 'Hymn' again has all the GLJ ingredients and the choral voices which open are magnificent producing a poignant end to the album. A good friend of mine recently heard 'Ocean of Serenity' for the first time. His experience of EM is substantial to say the least. The fact that he was so bowled over, as I was and still am, by this album says it all. Quite simply work of the very highest calibre, and a must-have for any EM collector. (GG)

Elektrolux e1101111cd
Guardner aka Marcus Schmahl is back with his longawaited full length release „Someday (In My Life)“. The man who also received amazing support for his Rauschfaktor outfit with Frank Rückert now graces Elektrolux with his first complete solo album under his Guardner guise. And he has definitely excelled himself with this beautiful collection of electronic shortstories! These twelve astonishing little gems showcase Guardner’s deep love for intense downtempo excursions as well as his sense for epic arrangements. As with his well received recent 12“, Guardner once again delivers incredible emotional landscapes, melodic electro pop and freestyle grooves that are sure to get under your skin. Beautiful melancholic motifs team up with great vocal pieces on top of some serious beat business, combining a rough downbeat and streetstyle flavour with heartwarming strings and mellow pianoparts. Hans Joachim Roedelius + Tim Story - Lazy Arc

Artist: Hans Joachim Roedelius & Tim Story
P: 2014
LTD 750

A limited edition signed and numbered by the artists, in a stunning large-format package.
Lazy Arc is the fourth album by Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Tim Story, reflecting both 15 years of musical collaboration and 30 years of friendship.
Recorded at Tim’s home studio in Ohio during the same sessions that produced their acclaimed albums Lunz and Inlandish, but strikingly different in both form and mood from those albums‘ meticulously constructed chamber music.
Lazy Arc is a 50 minute, seven part suite shaped from the sessions’ more ethereal moments, the intuitive playing that happens upon a beautiful sonic texture, and then sustains until it becomes its own form. The sound of Roedelius’ piano and keyboard playing, long beloved by the many fans of his work with Cluster and Harmonia, is at the center of the music – the revolving chords and graceful melodies will be familiar to anyone who has heard his solo Selbstportrait albums. Here, that sound is subtly and progressively altered and augmented by Story’s electronics, often in real time, weaving a stranger fabric. Story’s careful editing creates a flow out of these discretely floating moments, slowly building, and saving its deepest moments for the very end – the final two movements, almost surprisingly simple and effortlessly beautiful, stand as career highlights in either musician’s long and celebrated discographies .
