This series started early 1994 with "Seasons Greetings =Winter=" and since then evolved to a successful series of all four seasons. This very balanced and unique product contains Peter's real definition of the word Ambient in a very explicit way.
Following the path of the great impressionist composers of the late 19th century, he improvised on the impressions that came to him during the four seasons. Of course these were brought to life with the instruments of our time: synthesizers, ringmodulators, incorporating environmental sounds.
The main sentences that formed the idea of these pieces of music are:
Winter - The silence is infinite
Spring - Nature is awakened
Summer - The intensity of the sun
Autumn - A stormy nature

Artist: Peter Baumann

Here, Baumann provided vocals on all tracks with a style similar to Gary Numan and icy electronics, reminiscent of Kraftwerk and earlier John Foxx.
After two well received electronic/progressive/instrumental alben in the late seventies, repeat repeat, produced by Robert Palmer along with Baumann, is a straight forward electro-New Wave album.

CD release for the seminal German Electronic & Ambient musician Peter Baumann’s debut solo album, “Romance ‘76”. Peter Baumann came to prominence as a key member of TANGERINE DREAM, joining Edgar Froese and Chris Franke in the group in 1971 and making his debut on the album “Zeit”. His contribution was felt on the classic Tangerine Dream albums released by Virgin Records issued between 1974 & 1976, “Phaedra”, “Rubicon”, “Ricochet” and “Stratosphere”. In 1976 he embarked on a solo career with his classic work “Romance ’76”, recorded in July and August that year in Berlin and Munich. The result was a remarkable album that is now held in huge esteem by aficionados of German Electronic Music.

His next work as a solo artist was the equally remarkable and ground-breaking album “Trans Harmonic Nights”, recorded in Berlin between July 1978 and January 1979, a release which pre-empted and influenced the protagonists of synthesiser based music that would burst forth in the 1980s.

Overall, it's an interesting album in the genre, mainly because it doesn't feel like much of the ambient that I've heard lately. Instead, it sort of feels like a kick-back release, encorporating elements (like the soaring female vocals that aren't really saying anything, but simply adding another light element to the tracks) that feel a little bit more retro. With the current rage being glitch and minimalism, it almost feels like 1993 again on parts of the release. That's not to say it's not interesting though. Benisch definitely has an ear for nice, melodic tracks.

Attracted by the variety of the music on it and to the truly spacey feel of it from the start. It contains the sci-fi "Luminous", with it's shimmering synth and slow/echoing acoustic guitar, the warm synth and calming flute of "Blue Spiral", the drifting flute/sax interplay of "Binary Companions", the bittersweet piano/flute/strings of "Milky Way Tears", and the spacey "Parallax". "Star Gazer has such a variety of moods on it. There is no doubt that it was heavily influenced by Braheny's "Perelandra". Star Gazer 2 is half a melancholy solo piano piece by Davison and half a sad string quartet piece that took you into deeper feelings than Davison ever again inspired (kind of like the somber cello solo on William Ackerman's "Last Day at the Beach" on the "Conferring with the Moon" release). The last part, "SG3", brought the synth back in and made you feel warm and safe again, ending the recording on a positive note.

Peter Davison easily blends his music on so many levels, you actually tend to feel *inside* of the music when you listen to this recording. Turn To Dust (the first song) starts what the other songs continue as a journey to a higher level of subconsiousness.
