Kayanis - Machines and Dreams
Artist: Kayanis
P: 1998
Kayanis is a Polish multi-instrumentalist who, according to the live-recordings on a promotional video, is quite popular in his homeland. I think this is also possible here because his music is very accessible. If you talk about multi-instrumentalists you quickly think of guys like Mike Oldfield and Gandalf and I must say that Kayanis' music has traces of these two masters but also Jarre comes in mind. Kayanis' music can somewhat be compared to the synthesizer-driven Oldfield-albums like "The Songs Of Distant Earth" and "Tubular Bells III".
The album starts of classical-symphonic as in Jarre's "The Emigrant" . Then the single "Arecibo" follows which has a very nice melody. Again, Jarre sends greetings because of the women/children-choir in "Ellie" which has a simularity to "September". In "Lost Tribe" the electric guitar comes more on the foreground which brings the music into Gandalf. The very epic "Phobos" is all Oldfield through the extensive acoustic and electric guitarparts, the synt-interludes and beautiful melodies. Even a guitarpart from Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" is used. This track clearly shows his talent. Also a fine piece is "Finale" which could be from a Vangelis-soundtrack and then the opening returns. This is a strong album by a fine musician.

Kayanis - Synesthesis
Artist: Kayanis
P: 2001
Synenthesis is a much larger scale project. It is comprised of nine tracks that work together as a cohesive whole. Tempo and style changes are frequent--there are touches of classical, new age, progressive and even metal. Kayanis, accompanied by Jacek Szczepkowski, the sound engineer, entered the Keyamo Studio (built specially for the project) on January 2, 2001. The left it for good in June--yet still some work was to be doney at a mastering facility. More than a hundred and fifty musicians and vocalists participated in the recording. The album involves a good load of synth sounds, extraordinary guitar work, vocals, choirs and a chamber orchestra. The album is a union of styles--it cannot really be compared to anything, Synesthesis marks a new path in synth-based music: somewhere between EM, progressive rock and classical film music. Gentle yet extremely powerful at times, classical yet modern, passionate and strong but still melodious, sometimes even relaxing, this is an album of tremendous proportions. It won't leave your CD player for long once you put it on.

Keith Emerson - The Christmas Album

Artist: Keith Emerson
P: 1995

From the fingers that fused 'Tarkus'; from the mind that molded maniacal music with keyboard molestations; from the honky who helped heave huge pianos end over end... comes one of the most creative Christmas albums of all time. There are incredible arrangements included within this collection as well as stellar performances from the premiere key-meister of our time. The album closes with the most soulful version of 'Silent Night' that you will ever hear. Keith has been called every name in the book from genius to prodigy to legend. Listen to this album, though and get lost in the inherent soulfulness of the season. Then call Emerson the bringer of peace-filled tidings.

Kelvin L. Smith - Galaxy Gate

Artist: Kelvin L. Smith
P: 1999
Kelvin has changed his style slightly crossing avant ambient and even space e.m. barriers, which upon talking to Kelvin explained that the composition was built around the theme of four books he had read on related subjects. The album is a 'concept album', and should be likened to and listened to in as much?

Kitaro + Jon Anderson - Lady of Dreams

Artist: Kitaro
P: 1992
Featuring the vocals of Yes’ Jon Anderson, Dream is full of awe-inspiring moments that revolve around the themes of the spiritual, romanticism and love. It is beautifully scored with Kitaro’s signature sound along with orchestral instrumentation.

This is a different version with some more and some track less than the Kitaro-Dreams CD.

Kitaro - An Ancient Journey (2CD) Japan

Artist: Kitaro
P: 2002
This two-disc set, featuring 19 unique compositions, is a wonderful glimpse into the great civilizations past. In An Ancient Journey, Kitaro takes his audience on a trek to worlds far away using traditional Middle Eastern and Chinese instrumentation. Listeners embark on a mysterious crusade, witnessing "the texture, life and spirit of the world's ancient people.
Quick on the heels of 2001's Ancient, Japanese synthesist Kitaro returns with another CD based loosely on themes of ancient global sites, a template that's growing as old as the sites that inspire him. But while those sites become more inspiring with age, Kitaro's hackneyed sampled choirs, syrupy strings, and that whooping synthesizer line he's used since Astral Voyage a quarter century ago are becoming more kitschy. However, there are hints of something new on An Ancient Journey that make it Kitaro's best album in a few years. His use of environmental sounds goes beyond cliché, weaving them into the music as rhythms and counterpoint instead of simple backdrops. In addition, Kitaro plays Native American flute on several tracks, and the simplicity and one-octave range of the instrument seem to focus him into a delicate, more personal sound heard on pieces like "Waves of Sand" and "Inca." But he also finds fresh life on one of his patented dervishes, "Sitara IV," playing electric sitar over a modal percussion groove. As a double CD, An Ancient Journey is bloated, but there's an album's worth of music that nearly fulfills the promise of Kitaro. --John Diliberto

Kitaro - Asian Cafe

Artist: Kitaro
P: 2002

The english title of this 15-track compilation is in fact "Asian Café", and gathers 15 tracks from KITARO's solo albums, up to the great "Ancient" and "An Ancient Journey" albums.

It also includes 2 tracks from the "Kitaro's World Of Music Featuring Yu-Xiao Guang" album. As is the tradition with most of KITARO's albums, the tracks are generally linked without pause in sound.

This album covers many albums from the "Geffen" label era, without presenting anything unreleased...
