Create - Space Time Continuum

Artist: Create
P: 2007
This is the fourth CD by the English electronic musician Stephen Humphries, better known as Create. In comparison to his first three CD’s, Stephen has changed two things. First of all, he wanted to return to recording shorter tracks. Secondly, he now only makes use of hardware synthesizers (amongst them one of the flagship-synths of this time: the Alesis Andromeda) in stead of software.
Two of the five tracks on “Space Time Continuum”, the titletrack and “Fading Lights Grow Brighter”, were first performed at one of the “Awakenings”-gigs. Humphries’ music is a perfect blend of atmospheric sounds and perfectly crafted sequences. On “Space Time Continuum” the best sequences can be heard that he has created so far.
Take the titletrack, with which the CD opens. It starts real spacey, even a bit eerie, with great effects and SF-voices. After this a marvellous sequence enters and Stephen goes off with fine solos. The album contains two of the greatest tracks he has composed in his still short lived career. The first one is “Cryogenics”. The piece begins with effects and Mellotronstrings, after which some excellent, menacing, sequences take over.
And if that is not enough, “Footprints in the Sand” shows even greater sequences, as well as fine samples of the nostalgic sounding Mellotronflute.
Well, is this music nostalgic or not? It brings back some of the best from the Berlin School.

Cybotron - Colossus

Artist: Cybotron
P: 1990

Colossus is the most known album from CYBOTRON and one of their best. Soundscapes displayed here are very similar to TANGERINE DREAM (Froese/Franke/Baumann period), but in a more melodic and symphonic way, with more distinct and rythmic parts, and less trance and repetitive loops. Furthermore, CYBOTRON introduces an instrument not very much used by electronic bands at this moment: the sax ! This adds quite a refreshing feeling to the music. The main theme, Colossus, is a very cosmic and catchy sequenced piece, with interesting sound variations. The sax solo adds the mysterious ambiance. The next track, the mini-epic Eclipse, is more contemplative and dreamy. It shares strong resemblance to certain ELOY passages, vocals less. Medusa is the most TD-like piece with its meditative sequencer and robotic rythm. The album ends with Raga, a way more melodic, rocky and playful song, and announcing material on Implosion. Anyway, the final makes you fly in the air.
As if ELOY has made a baby to TD, CYBOTRON proves with Colossus that they have genuine ideas and an unique personnality. The record listens very well and should please all electronic/symphonic progressive fans. Prepare your spaceship !

Cyrille Verdeaux - Clearlight Symphony

Artist: Cyrille Verdeaux
P: 1973 /
2001
First album of Cyrille Verdeaux's project Clearlight Symphony, originally released in 1973, featuring members of Gong (Steve Hillage, Tim Blake, Didier Malherbe), Christian Boule' & Gilbert Artman of Lard Free. The music is electronic & symphonic with rich arrangements & deep atmospheres. This album is a top quality illustration of the experiments with electronic music that were going on at the time. Like 'Tubular Bells', at the time this album & these electronic/symphonic experiments achieved great commercial success. 2001.

Cyrille Verdeaux - Nocturnes Digitales

Artist: Cyrille Verdeaux
P: 2001
This CD is the seventh chakra (Sahasrara) of Cyrille Verdeaux's Kundalini Opera series. Wood, wind, water cascade with nature to create a tapestry in this soothing pastiche. Piano, strings and echo combine to create an inner healing and therapeutic dimension. A scientific experiment utilizing the electroencephalogram (EEG) demonstrated increased alpha brain wave activity whilst listening to this music, creating an increased sense of well being and relaxation. The sounds used by the composer are structured to quiet transient brainwaves of the listener, counteracting the effects of stress and tension. Nocturnes Digitales is created to help the listener reharmonize his/her own energetic biorhythms and resynchronize the patterns of DNA. The resulting combination of sound, texture and melody developed produces an optimal sonic environment for massage, bodywork, meditation and yoga. These qualities make this an excellent tool for professional massage therapists and bodyworkers. Nocturnes Digitales corresponds to the color orange, the auric color for family, procreation and sexuality. Other attributes for orange: sensuality, passion, vitality, family orientation, tolerance and optimism.

Dancing Fantasy - Day Dream

Artists: Dancing Fantasy
P: 1995

This CD is pretty good. Till The End Of Time is one of the better selections. Followed up by Daydreamer this features George Bishop on flute. Walk Of Life is a spacey song which has vocal scatting on it. This appears to be Dancing Fantasy trademark. They sure aren't George Benson or Al Jarreau. Aisha is a smooth-romantic song. Changes... this song has some non-vocal singing on it. It's got kind of a depressing sound to it. Next is the song Icedrift, it is a guitar-based song. It's slow and nice. Secrets is another good song. The sax playing is really good. Point Blank was a song that received some airplay back when this CD was new. This has got a good beat and is one of the best tracks on this CD. Streets Of Desire has a pre-programmed keyboard sound to it. It also features Bill Joseph Flynn on guitar. Big Light starts out kind of sluggish, but builds up to a pretty good song. Satellite is an eerie song. The final track Blue Bamboo was recorded live and taken from another disk. This has some good percusion sounds.

Dancing Fantasy - Midnight Blvd.

Artists: Dancing Fantasy
P: 1990

Midnight Boulevard is Dancing Fantasys debut album. Released in 1990 it became a suprise hit on the radio. Cry Nature, like Midnight Boulevard, is a classic. The album does stumbles though in some areas.
The last three are dance remixes. One is a dance club mix of the title track. The dance beat works fine with dance mix the title track. Like the original version the music itself is good and in fact is actually improved on the remix with the new keyboards.
However instead of Voodoo Jammin being bad it's actually quite good in all of it's versions. The version on Moonlight Reflections is better though.
