"101, Milky Way" is a true treasure from Klaus Schulze's musical legacy. It is one of those KS works that absolutely must be presented to the world, and as such it is part of our obligation to share all of his music with you all. And of course, as always, the genesis of this album has its very own story: it all began in late 2008 with a request from a German film production company asking if Klaus might do the soundtrack for a planned film documentary about computer hackers. This eventually turned into a complete KS album, from which the director of the documentary "Hacker - Alex Biedermann" was to use only small parts as soft background music. With "101, Milky Way", the complete work is now available for the first time - a greeting from Klaus' new cosmic home somewhere in the universe.

Klaus Schulze - Androgyn

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P:
2002 / 2017
Re-Release of Klaus Schulze’s “Androgyn” (originally released 2002 as part of the strictly limited and long exhausted 5CD Boxset “Contemporary Works II”).

The first track on “Androgyn” has again, like on “Another Green Mile”, the cello of Wolfgang Tiepold and some odd voice samples added to interesting synth sounds. The long second track has Klaus on electric guitar and for good reason it’s called “Back To The Future”: Klaus plays the guitar with a “Gleiteisen”, a piece of iron that he used in the “cosmic slide guitar technique” from old Ash Ra Temple times, 32 years ago. The next four tracks belong together. “There’s No Mystery” has a voice and the adequate and efficient cello again…and of course it has Klaus’ famous string accord in the back; you already heard it on “Another Green Mile” (MIG 01712) and can hear it again on further albums. As “Androgyn” comes to it’s end it gets more rythmic. For the final title “This House Full Of Shadows” I noticed at first listening: “Will be liked by the people”. We hear again Wolfgang Tiepold’s expert cello. (KDM, 2002)

“Androgyn” was originally released 2002 as part of the limited and long exhausted 5-CD-Boxset “Contemporary Works II”.

The bonustrack “A Tiny Violin” is from the 10thCD “Adds & Edits” of the limited wooden boxset “Contemporary Works I”.

Klaus Schulze - Angst

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P:
1984
Originally released in 1984 as the soundtrack for the Austrian judicial scandal documentary film, Angst (a.k.a. Schizophrenia), Schulze’s music acted as a storyline for the unedited film, rather than incidental music added to a completed story, thus allowing the score to drive the film. As stand alone music, Angst is typical of Schulze’s moody, serene and atmospheric symphonic synth bent. The bonus track, Silent Survivor, was recently uncovered in the search for masters and has been previously unreleased.

Klaus Schulze - Audentity

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P:
1983/ 2005 / 2016
The heavy rhythmic songs with weird noises are considered by some to be too clinical but, as a fan, you play these songs loud, really loud. The tracks on cd #1 are all more than 20 minutes long so they create a euphoric trance. The shorter numbers on cd #2 are more tranquil. The track order has been revised on this reissue to create room for a bonus track of almost 60 minutes. This is “Gem”, the original soundtrack of an Australian horror movie “Next Of Kin”, recorded in 1982. Because of the type of movie it’s from, the music is obviously dark and scary with a rhythm that reminds one of chopping axes and Jason masks, not very jolly and certainly not for weak stomachs (but very very good).

Klaus Schulze - Ballett 1 + 2

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P:
2000 / 2017
Klaus Schulze - Electronics
Wolfgang Tiepold - Cello
‘Ballett 1’ was originally part of the out-of-print 10CD box ‘Contemporary Works’.
After ‘Vanity of Sounds’ and ‘The Crime of Suspense’, ‘Ballett 1’ is a further album that is available on its own.
’Ballett 1’ – the first of four albums in this series – was produced together with cellist Wolfgang Tiepold, who was also involved in the 78s work ‘X’ and ‘Dune’, ‘Trancefer’ and ‘Audentity’. Tiepold enjoyed much freedom for his solos, as for instance on ‘Agony’, on which his music is intensively wide-ranging.

Ballett 2 from Contemporary Works I was also re-released. It is identical to the original release, with no bonus material. For those unable to purchase the complete 10-CD set before, this is a wonderful opportunity to explore this daring work, showing Schulze at his adventurous best.
The moody
“Atmosp’ere Concr’ete” starts things off, slowly churning for a few minutes before launching into the 30-minute epic “Kagi’s “Agony” from Ballett 1. Classic smooLament”.Though not overly cheerful, it is not nearly so downcast as th synth pads meld with Wolfgang Tiepold’s wonderful cello playing, as Thomas Kagermann adds flute, violin, and non-intrusive vocals that serve as a third contributing instrument.
“Wolf’s Ponticelli” picks up the pace if not the melancholy mood as crisp percussive rhythms ensue, along with strong synth soloing throughout.
Breathy wood flutes add a nice twist to
“The Smile of Shadows” and bring the disc to a successful conclusion.
