Schulze, Klaus
Klaus Schulze - Mirage 40th Anniversary edition

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 1977/ 2005 / 2017
This is the newly remastert version by Tom Dams.

Mirage, initially released in 1977, is often cited as one of Schulze’s best albums. The album is a strange pastoral landscape creating a frozen wonderland with vast shifts in color and texture, rather than the layered melodic and harmonic structures of Schulze’s previous albums. Mirage consists of two main pieces, Velvet Voyage and Crystal Lake, each broken down into six separate and chilling movements. The previously unreleased 20 minute epic In Cosa Crede Chi Non Crede? has been added as a bonus track to the new edition.

Klaus Schulze - Moondawn

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 1976 / 2005 / 2016

Recorded: January 1976, Frankfurt.
Klaus Schulze - ARP 2600/ARP Odyssey/Farfisa Professional organ/ Farfisa Syntorchestra/EMS Synthi A/Crumar keyboards/sequencer synthanorma 3-12 and The Big Moog
Harald Grosskopf - drums.
This 1976 album is excellent and is somewhat similar in texture to Timewind (1975). The most noticeable difference however, is that drummer Harald Grosskopf (Wallenstein, Cosmic Jokers) plays a full drum kit on Moondawn, and with great results.

In general, the two tracks are very moody and long (27'13 and 25'35 respectively) and consist simply of long drones on the moog synthesizer and string synthesizer (or the Hammond organ as used on Mindphaser) and sequenced synthesizer lines on the "big" moog. This music is largely static, with loads of bubbling and fizzing synthesizer sounds and only subtle changes in key and tempo.

Klaus Schulze - Moonlake

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 2005

The title “Moonlake” refers to Schulze’s love of the Austrian Moonlake and the monumental fascination radiated by this lake and its surrounding landscape. All of this is perfectly reflected in the intensity and power of his latest album.
“Moonlake” is nevertheless a typical Klaus Schulze album, one that in the words of Schulze “unites tradition and vision”.Klaus Schulze has revolutionized electronic music. Music is and will always be a kind of self-therapy, not just for Schulze alone but also for people who are willing to let themselves fall with open ears and hearts... There is a noticeable focus on percussion on “Moonlake”, which hasn’t been found on Schulze’s albums for some time. While rhythm was often used as an element to supplement the music on his earlier albums, it takes on a more dominant role on “Moonlake”. The album also marks the introduction of Schulze playing the Mini-Moog (with distortion and Wah-Wah!) in the studio for the first time. Previously Schulze had only ever used this set up live on stage.
This working process gave Klaus Schulze the necessary surge of adrenalin to create a vibrant and lively album, which hides many surprises, such as the ethnic elements found in the track “Playmate in Paradise” for example.
Klaus Schulze: “The ethnic element comes from Thomas Kagermann, better known in earlier times as Fiddle Michel. He actually comes from the folk scene. However, today he is very open to what I am doing. It’s the counterpoint to conventional electronics, which allows you to expand considerably. When you are working exclusively in the electronic field you often get caught in a box. By means of using uneven patterns perhaps, which are looped but have a groove in them, there are completely new moments and aspects”.
Apart from the first two tracks, “Playmate in Paradise” and “Artemis in Jubileo”, which were recorded ‘live’ in the studio, there are also two actual live performance pieces on “Moonlake”.
“Same Thought Lion” and “Mephisto” were both recorded in Poland on November 5th 2003 during a concert in Posen for Gert Hof’s huge light show. These edited tracks are now available for the first time for a larger audience to enjoy.
Just as with every other Klaus Schulze album, “Moonlake” is a new venture, an experiment and a unique document of a musician who has followed his inner voice and intuition for decades. An artist who creates worlds which cannot be compared to anything else.

Klaus Schulze - Picture Music

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 1975 / 1995

Klaus Schulze first attracted attention as a member of the German progressive rock band, Tangerine Dream. Following the release of their debut LP, Electronic Meditation, he departed for a solo career. Klaus' recorded work typically features extended pieces sometimes filling an entire album built around computer-generated synthesizers and other specially programmed electronic effects. Klaus Schulze remains a cult figure in the United States, where the bulk of his prolific output has until now been available only through the import bins. He is widely considered an avant-garde mainstay as well as a founding father of both the new-age space music and electronica genres. Reviews of Picture Music refer to its hypnotic quality, making bold statements that this is Schulze’s first true synth album. Originally released in January of 1975. The album states track 1 as Totem and track 2 as Mental Door, but the music is actually reversed.

Klaus Schulze - Royal Festival Hall Vol.2

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 1992
Klaus Schulze's Royal Festival Hall is a challenging two-volume CD set which is sold separately. This album marks a further evolution in Klaus' long and creative career. ...
These two CDs have a combination of live and studio tracks. However the live tracks are well-conceived. Each CD has one live track spanning approximately 45 minutes, with other, smaller tracks to fill each CD to about 70 minutes. It is impressing how multifaced the compositions are. ...these tracks are composed of many separate movements as one. Schulze uses sampling to effectively construct immense surreal, often cubist soundscapes. ...
The live tracks reflect a certain collage structure not found on previous live albums. Moreover they aren't as melodic as the live track on The Dresden Performance, but there is more to explore here. It's amazing to imagine these tracks live. You may find this music to be refreshingly more challenging and delightfully more complex. In either case, with nearly 140 minutes of music, there's a lot for everyone.

Klaus Schulze - Silhouettes

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 2018

Following the celebrations of his 70th birthday in August 2017, Klaus Schulze, one of the most important electronic music artists worldwide, has announced the release of his new studio recording Silhouettes for May 2018. The four pieces ´Silhouettes`, ´Der lange Blick zurück`, ´Quae simplex` and ´Châteaux faits des vent`, which he worked on between summer and autumn 2017, are just as expansive in terms of playing time and artistic vision as we’ve come to expect from Schulze’s work. According to the internationally highly respected musician, composer and producer, the new material reflects – due to health problems – a very quiet and for this reason very meditative time. Schulze describes the music on Silhouettes as a “reduction to the essential things” and has consciously worked only very sparingly with solos and vocal elements. He explains: “No great distractions, nothing to force your attention in a certain direction, no major effects or gimmicks, no frills or dominant rhythms. It was important to me to paint the pictures in the depth of the space, the sonic fields of tension and atmosphere.” Since the early 1970s, Klaus Schulze has repeatedly been referred to by the press as “King of Cosmic Music” or “Magician on the Big Moog“, his work frequently having been classed as a “monument of forward-looking music”. Along with his great talent for innovation, Schulze is also considered to be one of the most productive artists of his time. Experts estimate the number of releases featuring Schulze to be at least 200, but more probably 500.

Klaus Schulze - Timbres of Ice

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 2002 / 2019

„Timbres Of Ice“is another raised treasure from the Klaus Schulze cosmos!
Re-Issue of the albums, which was part of the strictly limited and long exhausted 2002 5CD boxsets „Contemporary Works II”.
The first track "The Lonely Dead Of Midnight" is dominated by an acoustic guitar.
Second Track "They Shut Him Out Of Paradise" is a typical long Schulze track. The voice you hear was a high female voice before Klaus transposed it with his tools. As so often with Klaus when he uses a singer, it's not the lyrics he takes interest in (if there are any) but just the sound of the voice.Last track on this album "Die Prophezeiung erfüllt sich" articulates its title at the very beginning. It is a long sample. Very calm.

Klaus Schulze - Timewind

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 1975 /
1988
Originally released in 1975, Timewind is one of the most revered and mesmerizing recordings in the extensive Klaus Schulze catalogue and certainly the best known globally. Says Mike DeGagne on The All-Music Guide: "Dedicated to Richard Wagner, Timewind is a 60-minute electronic expedition that is broken up into two half-hour tracks, Bayreuth Return and Wahnfried 1883. The first 30 minutes involves icy pulsations and lengthy tonal flights that unnoticeably converge into each other. While one rhythm gains momentum, the other one slowly fades into a bubbly electronic bath of bright swirls and meandering keyboard waves. Similar to early Tangerine Dream, the music here rises and falls above a distant sonic horizon, and the effect is truly mesmerizing. One specific flow can last for minutes, while small, detailed noises adhere themselves to the main electronic run. On the second track, more of the same far-off synthesized altering takes place, but the washes of keyboard become inoculated with a sharper, more precise sound. Longer notes build into resilient pieces with the same comforting result. This album will sketch a barren wasteland in the mind through the wispiness of the wind-like effects. Timewind serves as splendid mood music, and the ears are forever kept busy following Schulze's electronic wandering."
