Tangerine Dream - Franz Kafka The Castle

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2013
/ 2020
This is the fourth album within the EASTGATE's SONIC POEM SERIES which became very successful since its first release in spring 2011.TD started with EDGAR ALLAN POE'S "THE ISLAND OF THE FAY", went on with a second album about GUSTAV MEYRINK'S "THE ANGEL OF THE WEST WINDOW" and thirdly with JAMES JOYCE's "FINNEGANS WAKE" - albums which were very well accepted by TD's fans.

Completely new album with new compositions!!

There is a hidden secret behind this unfinished story of Franz Kafka. THE CASTLE is never meant to be a building as we would expect it. Kafka goes further, much further. The story of THE CASTLE follows a deeper study of mankind and society and is maybe one of the most challenging projects TD came up with. So take a ticket to ride and enjoy the musical atmosphere soon.

Tangerine Dream - From Virgin To Quantum Years: Coventry Cathedral 2022

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2025

2CD DIGIPAK EDITION, INCLUDES 8-PAGE BOOKLET WITH LINER NOTES & STUNNING PHOTOS FROM THE PERFORMANCE In 1974, Tangerine Dream—then composed of Edgar Froese, Peter Baumann & Christopher Franke—performed a now legendary concert set against the awe-inspiring backdrop of Coventry Cathedral. Nearly fifty years later, the current incarnation of the band—Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane & Paul Frick—returned to that same sacred space in 2022 to perform a monumental ‘From Virgin To Quantum Years’ set, bridging eras in a performance that reflects the band’s extraordinary & ceaseless evolution. Reflecting on that experience, Thorsten Quaeschning shared: “After 2022, following the intense COVID years during which we wrote the album ‘Raum’, the Coventry Cathedral concert became a key moment in reconnecting different parts of Tangerine Dream’s story with the present. Playing in that same cathedral created an atmosphere that was simply unique.” This 2CD set presents the full concert—a sweeping setlist that reaches back to Virgin Years classics like ‘Stratosfear’, ‘Cloudburst Flight’ & ‘Love On A Real Train’, while also drawing from more recent Quantum material such as ‘Raum’ & ‘Continuum’. Several pieces are performed with special guest Steve Rothery (Marillion), whose guitar work threads itself into the band’s electronic textures to create a fascinating new dimension. “the best synth band in the world” THE NEW YORK TIMES Coventry Cathedral stands as a symbol of transformation & resilience, with its towering spire representing both a rich history & a modern rebirth—qualities that parallel the evolution of Tangerine Dream. With a legacy that includes multiple Grammy nominations, a vast catalogue of groundbreaking albums & an iconic body of film scores, they continue to stand as pioneers in their field, with the torch passed from founder Edgar Froese to his protégé & current bandleader, Thorsten Quaeschning, after Froese's passing in 2015. Reflecting on the band's return to the cathedral nearly five decades after the original performance, Quaeschning noted: “The 2022 tour also marked the beginning of a new chapter—more concerts, more people discovering the band live & an incredibly rewarding experience with a fantastic crew. This project means so much to me that I never even consider having a Plan B. I’m just looking forward to more releases, more concerts & new studio albums to come.” This 2CD, 6-panel digipak edition includes an 8-page printed booklet with stunning photos from the performance & reflective liner notes written by music journalist Chris Wheatley. ‘From Virgin To Quantum Years: Coventry Cathedral 22’ captures Tangerine Dream’s legendary past, a reimagined present & the evolving outlines of futures yet to come.

Tangerine Dream - Goblins Club

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1996/ 1999

Well, At Darwin's Motel has some lovely vocals (soloist not credited! Shame!) demonstrating once and for all and beyond all doubt should anyone still have any, that Tangerine Dream have now fully integrated the (wordless) singing voice into their sound world. And very nicely too.
On Crane's Passage features a nice mix of percussion voices, while Rising Haul in Silence an inappropriate title, if ever there was one could be nominated for the best drumming on the album. It also has some good sampler sounds in it and features a jolly little tune in the best Tangerine Dream tradition.
Lamb with Radar Eyes is probably the track which stands up best to repeated listening, though, with its constantly changing minimalist rhythmic patterns, classic Dream chord progressions and its mix of novel synthesizer voicing and guitar work. At over 8 and a half minutes, it's also longer than most of the other tracks, too.

Tangerine Dream - Great Wall of China (TDI)

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2000

While the disc keeps the contemporary digital sound the band found in the 90s, some of the tracks will appeal to lovers of their 70s sound. For example, check out the bass sequence on The South Gate Knights. In some ways it compares to Stratosfear 1995 from their recording Tyranny of Beauty, which combined the mid-70s song structure with digital equipment and the 90s mind set.
Another example of this era mixing would be Lights of Beijing which has a lovely piano melody reminiscent of their sound of the early 80s, but again pulled into current TD style. It seems the band is proving that they have not forgotten lessons they have learned. There are more atmospheric and experimental sounds on this disc than on other recent releases.
One example is Silence of the Barking Monks with some icy crackling crystal sounds. These sounds, though perhaps odd if taken by themselves, are weaved into the layers of the music adding to the mood and depth of the disc. This CD is a soundtrack to a U. S. made film documentary about the Asian architectural wonder. The listener will find an occasional Asian vocal sample and ethnic rhythm giving sections of the music a Far East feel, but the most Oriental inspired track is Tiger Forest which has more of the tones associated with Asian music. This is not overdone, however, as is sometimes true with worldbeat recordings, and the music remains very much TD.

Tangerine Dream - Green Desert

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1973 / 1986

This album, it is claimed, was due to be Tangerine Dream's fifth release for the German record label, Ohr, in 1973. Before it could be handed over for release, though, the band signed a deal with Virgin, recorded the music for "Phaedra" at the Manor, Shipton-on-Cherwell, and the rest, as they say, is history. The original "Green Desert" tape, recorded in August 1973, was not prepared for commercial release until 1984. By the time of this release, much of the material on it had already seen the light of day incorporated into more fully worked out and developed pieces, and this album sounds like little more than sketches for later works (mostly of the "Stratosfear" era).
