Nearly fifty years later, the current incarnation of the band—Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane & Paul Frick—returned to that same sacred space in 2022 to perform a monumental ‘From Virgin To Quantum Years’ set, bridging eras in a performance that reflects the band’s extraordinary & ceaseless evolution. Reflecting on that experience, Thorsten Quaeschning shared: “After 2022, following the intense COVID years during which we wrote the album ‘Raum’, the Coventry Cathedral concert became a key moment in reconnecting different parts of Tangerine Dream’s story with the present. Playing in that same cathedral created an atmosphere that was simply unique.” This 2CD set presents the full concert—a sweeping setlist that reaches back to Virgin Years classics like ‘Stratosfear’, ‘Cloudburst Flight’ & ‘Love On A Real Train’, while also drawing from more recent Quantum material such as ‘Raum’ & ‘Continuum’. MODULAR SESSIONS 22 "Chasing The Dream Vol. 1" is the issue everyone has been waiting for. Based on studio and live streaming sessions paying tribute to the world's longest-lived electronic band, the CD-only release in an initial limited run of 100 numbered copies features much loved compositions by Edgar Froese, Steve Schroyder, Peter Baumann, Chris Franke, Johannes Schmoelling and Paul Haslinger all arranged and performed by Mark Jenkins, plus pastiche tracks in their styles from the 1970's and 1980's only.
This "only the classics" project features the band's most powerful and melodic music in striking new arrangements and medleys. The early years are covered with tracks in the style of "Electronic Meditation" and "Alpha Centauri" plus a new arrangement from "Zeit". Powerful sequencer music from "Rubycon" is also there along with dynamic covers of Chris Franke's "Vermilion Sands" and Peter Baumann's title track. The epic "An Encore" originally streamed live is in a style somewhere between "Ricochet" and "Encore", while "Another Horizon" pastiches the "Poland" live album.
There's movie music too from "Flashpoint" ("Going West") plus an epic medley from "Thief" and other albums with guitar and multiple ratcheting sequencers, and finally something from the melodic Paul Haslinger years in "Dolphin Dance". With everything from Moog Model 960 sequencers to Mellotron, EMS Synthi and flute, "Chasing The Dream" is an authentic experience for those who prefer their electronic music in classic mode. Live performances with an amazing computer graphics visual show (and a Volume 2) are scheduled.
