Tangerine Dream - Springtime in Nagasaki (Japan)

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 200
7 / 2009
HiQualityCD. Tangerine Dream Eastgate Era collection vol.1 Japan Version.
In November 2006 TD got the offer from a Japanese Business Manager, who turned 82 last year, to compose and record the so-called 'Five Atomic Seasons'. As it was clear that this was a real serious assignment, TD were told that the person who ordered the composition did study during his youth in the two cities which had been destroyed by atomic bombardments back in 1945, Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
The five compositions had to be in length 54 minutes each. Part one and two, - Spring and Summer 1945 - the client spent living in Nagasaki, while he lived in Hiroshima in Autumn and Winter of 1945, where he survived one of the most lunatic and barbarian war crimes ever done by mankind.
Spring and Summer will describe the normal atmosphere in a Japanese city with some of the rising premonitions of what will happen on August 9th 1945. Autumn and Winter in Hiroshima will musically mirror what happened after August 6th 1945.
"Springtime in Nagasaki" is a fantastic album, a real stormer! New and unusual sounds and rhythms in combination with the given theme of the time before the atomic bomb explosion in Nagasaki creating a sound experience which is catapulting you into another tangerine dream - it's simply overwhelming!
A must-have for every true fan. This cd seems to tie up very much to older more experimental music from TD like Phaedra or Stratosfear. I like Edgar Froese's composition more, because it's closer to the dramatic topic and has nice sequencing parts in it.

Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1976/ 1995
Consisting of four parts, Stratosphere reworked the Tangerine Dream trademark sound--a heady mix of electric guitar, drum, and assorted other electronic instruments-- into a form more readily available to those new to the genre than their previous works. A rich blend of racing sequences, dramatic chord structures, and a stranger-than-strange bluesy treatment of a track called "3 am at the Border of the Marsh from...." A surreal experience indeed.
This was the last Tangerine Dream release to feature long time associate Peter Baumann, who left the band a year later.

Tangerine Dream - Summer in Nagasaki (Japan)

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2007 / 2009
Here the Japan version.
HiQualityCD. Tangerine Dream Eastgate Era collection vol.1.
Tangerine Dream "Summer In Nagasaki" is the second part of the so-called "Five Atomic Seasons".
The compositions reflect the experiences Mr. H. T. - an 82 year old Japanese business man - made during the time of the atomic bomb dropping in summer 1945 in Japan. This dramatic incident coincided with the relationship to his early love - his student fellow named Ayumi - who had no chance to survive that horrible attack. H. T. was so heavily shocked that he decided to abandon the world by going into a monastery. The music - written as one long track of 54 minutes - dramatically describes a part of his life and destiny.
The music is more in the old TD style, which was not heard for a long time.

Tangerine Dream - Sunrise in the Third System

Artist: Tangerine Dream

Pink Years Anthology 1970-1973
In Britain, DJ John Peel soon began to promote the band on his influential radio show and the album, along with follow ups Atem and Zeit sold in healthy quantities in Britain as imported titles. In 1973 Tangerine Dream recorded the album Green Desert (not released until many years later) and became one of the first acts to sign to Richard Branson s newly established Virgin label. Tangerine Dream s early recordings (later referred to by fans as the pink years ), would serve as an influence to a whole host of later musicians such as Julian Cope, and this anthology gathers the highlights of this period in the life of the group.

Tangerine Dream - Supernormal - The Australian Concerts 2014 (3er CD + Book)

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2014

20.000 miles from Vienna to Down Under and return. Enjoying a marvelous calm flight with Qantas and Emirates, crossing the outback and the rainforest up to Cairns very north of Australia. Alright, TD did again one of their little adventure tours. What does this all has to do with music? All and everything, because it does reflect our state of consciousness while traveling. The band’s new line-up, who gave their first concerts of ‘The Quantum Years’ Down Under, can be heard with the new bandmate Ulrich Schnauss. Of course it was too early to give ‘The Quantum Years’ musically the full speed. Also the final use of the new experimental technology, which is ready to go for Europe next year, could not have been completely set up because of some astronomical cargo costs. But please here is a little note for those fans who always want TD to invent the wheel the second time on each of their new recordings – we´re still humans!

You will hear the big pipe organ of the Melbourne Town Hall played by Edgar and Thorsten, as well as some new instruments played by Hoshiko. The whole atmosphere will be different because of the new line-up, even if you will hear some of the well-known TD tunes.

Tangerine Dream - Tangents

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1994

Though founder-member Edgar Froese still leads a contemporary Tangerine Dream today, it is the period documented on this lavish four-CD box set that defines the classic Tangerine Dream sound and forms the basis of their reputation. Remastered and rerecorded by Froese himself, Tangents contains all the essential recordings from the groundbreaking trio's 1973-83 Virgin recordings: Phaedra, Rubycon, Force Majeure, Stratosfear, Tangram, and Richochet. Rather than proceeding chronologically, each disc is an amalgam of the various periods, sequenced to provide an ultimate TD excursion. For it is the idea of journey that signifies the Tangerine Dream experience. Pioneering the use of early synthesizers, their pieces typically begin with rhythmically repeating sequences of notes, upon which lush and dreamy keyboard sounds are layered, slowly developing into a sense of deep space. The music is, by turns, foreboding and uplifting, majestic and cinematic. It was the ultimate "headphone" music of the time, making liberal use of stereo pans and long, receding reverberations. Though labels such as "space rock" and, later, New Age, were put on their music, Tangerine Dream have remained a world unto themselves. The music never really "rocks," and any mystical, healing aspects of their music appear incidental. Though precursors to so-called ambient music, Tangerine Dream seems more about triggering dreams and fostering inner mental landscapes. According to Froese, in a lengthy liner-note statement answering the band's false interpreters and naysayers, "Tangerine Dream's music has only switched on the projector of your own personal dream--nothing more." While obviously aimed at the ardent fan, complete with a sumptuously designed booklet and an extra disc of previously unreleased Edgar Froese material, this well-conceived box set serves equally well as the definitive introduction for new listeners.

Tangerine Dream - Tangram

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1980
Released in 1980, Tangram marked the beginning of the Johannes Schmoelling period and ushered Tangerine Dream forward into the new decade, while simultaneously glancing backwards at the 1970s. Although the synth tone colors used on Tangram are "newer sounding" than the brooding mellotron and synthesizers used on their 1970s works, they are still very somber and organic sounding and impart a gloominess to the album that I find very appealing. The album consists of two lengthy pieces including Tangram Set 1 (19'51") and Tangram Set 2 (20'22"), which are fairly interesting and feature the spacey sections and trademark pulsating sequenced synth bass lines that were characteristic of their late 1970s output. Instrumentation consists predominantly of Moog and Oberheim synthesizers, some string synthesizer, with acoustic and electric guitar parts here and there. Percussion is absent. All in all, this is an excellent Tangerine Dream album and forms a nice bookend to their 1970s recordings.
