Tangerine Dream - Purgatorio

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2004 / 2009
Tangerine Dream has completed their work on the second installment of their epic trilogy based on Dante Alighieri's "La Divina Commedia": Purgatorio.
Purgatorio is a musical piece of epic proportions with a total length of more than 2 hours, once again combining TD's trademark sound with orchestral and choral elements, as well as outstanding vocal performances. Edgar and Jerome Froese are joined by an ensemble of five guest musicians to create a truly magnificent piece of musical art.
The strongest things in this album are the sequence parts, their great and telling you what Dante means in his book. The slow pieces are even on the same level as Inferno, and are so well done by the singers that it gave sometimes tears in my eyes. I call this one a little Opera, like Inferno was more of a Passion. This work tells you strongly who you are and how we thinking in these days. That becomes a work of a writer from century's ago made a work that fits still in this time. Edgar and Jerome have done a great job to put the work of Dante on music.
This is a classical TD release for years, and maybe the work will be called classical after all.

Tangerine Dream - Quantum Gate (Jewel Case Version)

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2017

2017 release from the electronic music pioneers. Tangerine Dream have been a fundamental influence on electronic and progressive music since their formation in West Berlin, 1967. Inspiring genres, musicians and other art forms, from The Future Sound of London to Porcupine Tree, the widely popular TV show Stranger Things (for which their music also featured in) to seminal video game Grand Theft Auto V (for which they helped to write the soundtrack). The group have also received seven Grammy nominations, written over 100 studio albums and were led by Edgar Froese, who developed an instantly recognizable synth-based instrumental music based on a meditative musical experience that came to prominence in the '70s and '80s. Quantum Gate promises an updated, contemporary development of their trademark sound: sequencer-driven electronica covering a wide range of moods and atmospheres from ambient soundscapes to energetic, upbeat moments. The album began as a concept and series of musical sketches by Froese before he passed away in 2015. Remaining band members Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane worked together to realize Edgar's visions and expectations of a conceptual album that attempts to translate quantum physics and philosophy into music. New member Ulrich Schnauss comments: "at the moment hardly any other area of science questions our concept of reality (linearity of time etc.) as profoundly as research in Quantum physics - it's no surprise therefore that Edgar was drawn to these ideas since he had always aimed at reminding listeners of the existence of 'unopened doors'.
Tangerine Dream’s new studio album QUANTUM GATE is due for release on September 29th 2017, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the band. In late summer 2014, Edgar Froese, Thorsten Quaeschning, Ulrich Schnauss and Hoshiko Yamane began to work on what was planned to be the first album of Tangerine Dream’s Quantum Years – a new phase of the band that Edgar wanted to use to introduce a couple of substantial changes.
Consisting of himself, long term collaborator Thorsten Quaeschning (synths & musical director), violinist Hoshiko Yamane and new member Ulrich Schnauss (synths), the Quantum Years promised an updated, contemporary take on the band’s trademark sound of the 70s and 80s: sequencer-driven electronica covering a wide range of moods and atmospheres from ambient soundscapes to energetic, upbeat moments. Non-musical ideas relating to the field of quantum physics and philosophy had inspired Edgar to attempt a translation of these concepts into music.
Very sadly however Edgar passed away in early 2015 – requesting that his wife, visual artist and TD’s manager for the last 15 years, Bianca Froese-Acquaye would ensure that his vision for the Quantum Years would still be realized.
Throughout the last two years Quaeschning, Schnauss and Yamane therefore worked hard on achieving a result that would match Edgar’s expectations – as well as the ones of TD’s loyal fanbase.
It’s worth noting that the compositions appearing on the album are not only based on theoretical concepts and ideas Edgar had outlined, but also on a large number of actual musical sketches that he luckily had already prepared during the initial phase of the band’s reformation process.
Therefore, Quantum Gate is just as much a new beginning as it is a testament to Edgar’s never-withering inspiration and ever-flowing creativity.

PS: The CD comes in a cleartray, the cover has the usual GOLD lettering and the booklet consists of 12 pages.

Tangerine Dream - Raum

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2022

Composed and produced with full access to Edgar Froese's Cubase arrangements (and Otari Tape Archive with recordings from 1977-2013), Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane and Paul Frick deliver late-night real time compositions combined with classic studio productions, sequencer driven haunting soundscapes alternate with anthemic warm synthesizers.    Composed in a time of social distancing and cancelled shows, the tracks cannot exactly be recreated (or will at least need significant re-instrumentation for a live performance). With the 17-minute In 256 Zeichen they lay the fundament of this record. Continuum, with its repetitive sequence and broken beat shows glimpses of acid sounds and increasing choral atmospheres. You're Always On Time is built on PPG wavetable sounds and eerie field recordings. The title track Raum makes a nod towards the early live studio performances like Zeit and Phaedra - the melody accompanied by a chorus-like Roland Jupiter 8 part. An ambient rave Moog Minitaur sequence highlights the final peak, till the violin slowly transports the listener out. A heavy Moog bass marks the beginning and the end of this 15-minute piece. Raum is the band's second studio album after the passing of the founder Edgar Froese in 2015. With deep respect for the sound of the previous five decades, this record continues in the ever-evolving pathway of Tangerine Dream.

Tangerine Dream - Ricochet

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1975/ 1995

This album is the very short account of the succesful concert tour of 1974-1975, promoting previous two albums. TD musicians have confessed to listening to hundreds of hours of 'awful' experimental concert music of their own - just to select the best for publication. Ricochet is one of the most imaginative experimental work of all times. Released in 1975, shortly after their seminal Virgin label debut PHAEDRA, RICOCHET is one of the best electronic sequencer albums of all time and also an astounding live performance that sounds like a studio album.

Tangerine Dream - Rocking Mars (TDI)

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2005

"Vault 5", taken from TD's live concert archive, is called "Rocking Mars".
It contains Tangerine Dream's complete set from the 1999 "Klangart" festival on a two CD set.
Beside Edgar and Jerome, this event also features Gerald Gradwohl on guitar and Emil Hachfeld on electronic percussion. Sadly, this gig was the last one with Emil cause he died only one year later.
Most parts were later used on TD's very successful studio album "Mars Polaris". So get the experience once again and listen to one of the groups finest moments of the late nineties.
