Tangerine Dream - Optical Race

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1988 / 2003/ 2009
OPTICAL RACE - the single CD of the once limited edition TRILOGY offer "The Melrose Years - The re-recordings 2003" Faced with the loss of the crucial member of the band in late 1987, Christopher Franke, and with the corresponding loss of most of the equipment, Edgar Froese was left to his own devices. Ever persistent, he decided to continue the musical path of the band, this time as a duo, hard as it was to find a replacement for the lost nucleus of the band. Busy with mastering the material recorded during 1987 - various soundtracks contracted for the silver screen companies, Edgar Froese did not immediately begin searching for the new musical identity. However, come 1988, he already had clear ideas as to where he would take the band, what direction it might choose. Tangerine Dream has always been the band of technology, more often than not at the frontline, devising the new solutions, new instruments on their own. In 1988, a new opportunity knocked on the door, the age of digital computers. Having decided to use that opportunity, and somewhat being forced to do so after the loss of precious equipment last year, Edgar Froese and Paul Haslinger cheerfully adapted the new investment, the digital computers of Atari and Steinberg.
The album has a really beautiful summer afternoon tone to it and the songs are really innovative and powerful.

Tangerine Dream - Out of this World

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2015

This is the first album compiled by Bianca Froese-Acquaye (Edgar Froese's wife) after the passing of her husband on 20th January 2015. Edgar's music means the world to her - and especially the tracks of this collection. OUT OF THIS WORLD is one of her ways to honour her husband for his huge life work. She added a very personal 12-page booklet to it and ONE so far unreleased track by Edgar: GANYMEDE'S KISS. Of course this small collection can only reflect a tiny part of Edgar's musical legacy, but it definitely spreads a special, sublime atmosphere - in memory of Edgar Froese and his impressive works.

Tangerine Dream - Phaedra

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1974/ 1985
When the album "Phaedra" hit the album charts worldwide back in 1974, no one had foreseen such a remarkable career of a new musical sound created by Tangerine Dream. All instruments were new and unknown to the audience. The sound itself was the opposite of all common music at those days. During the concerts the band created an uncomparable atmosphere.
This 1974 masterpiece from Christopher Franke, Edgar Froese, and Peter Baumann ebbs and flows with richly dark soundscapes of electronic sounds and synth. After listening to Phaedra it's easy to understand why. The signature pulsing of thick, beautiful Tangerine Dream synth falls across the ambient treasures here, pulling along the orchestral dreamscape before oozing aside for thick washes of expansive sound. The now-classic title cut is both soothing and ghostly, throbbing with subtle sequences and twisted metallic calls before diving into a swamp of nightmarish whistles and hoots. "Mysterious Semblance" soars and swoops like a lovely electronic eagle, bringing tripped-out light and cosmic dignity to the collection. This and the follow-up Rubycon are juicy pieces to the Tangerine Dream pie.
