Tangerine Dream - Epsilon Journey DVD

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2008

The Epsilon DVD is alright as this DVD should be treated as a piece of ART, it's more a concert movie than a simple concert documentation - that's why it contains all kinds of stylistic modern elements as for example black and white, monochrome and couloured passages.
These elements contribute to the special atmosphere of the DVD. Hope you like it!:-)
The first and maybe the only time you will see and hear Edgar Froese performing his solo compositions created from the mid seventies until today. The Tangerine Dream line up gave him a wonderful support at the Technical University of Eindhoven in the Netherlands on April 13th 2008.
As a lot of Edgar's music had been composed during his worldwide journeys you will also see many private intimate picture cuttings which are telling stories about his laptop-mini-keyboard adventures in the deserts to the oceans. Enjoy this exclusive extraordinary Edgar Froese - Tangerine Dream DVD with its special atmosphere!

Tangerine Dream - Essential Collection

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P:
2006
This 2cd set brings together the highlights from the band's 10 most important album releases.
Distilling the essence of a force as monumentally influential and prolific as the German electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream to a two-CD checklist of essentials is a daunting and ultimately impossible task. The group's soundtrack work alone would need to be relegated to a multi-disc box set to even scratch the surface, as would the early years of primal synthesizer explorations and the more recent decades of electronic dance music. Nonetheless, this tidy package manages to present a significant enough taste of Tangerine Dream's discography that the neophyte can come away from it with a working understanding of where the renowned avant-gardists began, and where they ultimately went. The first disc, for whatever reason, jumps ahead and focuses on the mid-'80s, leading off with the 22-minute title track from the Poland album (recorded live in said country), as daring and ambitious a piece of electro -symphonic dance music ever recorded. The remainder of the first disc stays in the '80s, bowing out with both parts of the difficult '21st Century Common Man,' drawn from the Tyger album.
Disc two backtracks to the beginning, appropriately launching with 'Genesis,' the epic that opened 1970's Electronic Meditation album. That title was particularly apt for this early experimental work, but over the next few years, as Tangerine Dream became more enamored of the Moog and other synthesizer technology, the music developed more organically as the musicians -- Edgar Froese has been the only constant throughout the many personnel changes -- found their place within this brave new world.
That the bulk of this disc is represented by the ambitious, lengthy title tracks of three consecutive early-'70s albums -- Alpha Centauri, Zeit, and Atem -- is more than likely no accident, as these are emblematic of what Tangerine Dream, in their formative and most creative era, were all about.

Tangerine Dream - Exit

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1981 / 1995

Still, Exit contains two of the most intriguing short-form compositions the group ever released: the driving "Choronzon" and the pulsing, ever-evolving "Network 23", a truly arresting piece in its day, and one that still sounds good a few decades later. Choronzon was used on the Movie "Risky Buisness" with Tom Cruise in s differnet way and still, the complete CD is amilestone within all releases of TD.
Recorded and mixed in June 1981 in Berlin.
Composed and played by Edgar Froese, Chris Franke and Johannes Schmoelling.
Original sleeve design by Monica Froese.

Tangerine Dream - Fallen Angels

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2008

Music produced, composed and performed by Edgar Froese except track 3 composed by Edgar Froese and Thorsten Quaeschning
FALLEN ANGELS at the strand of the innocent creatures - fallen down onto levels of space and time - accidentally some angels can be detected. Instead of heavenly beauty they are covered with dirty wings, strange faces, greasy hair and blue-shadowed lips. But their eyes reflect the strong rays of their golden soul - spread out all over the place. The future women of the planet. Strange theme, strange sounds - just TD.

Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1979/ 1987
'Force Majeure' was their big breakthrough album in 1979, their thirteenth album altogether, and second for Richard Branson's Virgin Record label. The Virgin team had already had enormous success by taking a chance and releasing Michael Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells' to Platinum sales worldwide, after all the major labels would not touch it. So Virgin and Tangerine Dream made very suitable partners. The first album released on Virgin had been the controversial 'Cyclone' album, when the Band had played more like a traditional Rock band including vocals whilst forsaking some of the sweeping synthesizers and ambient sounds, much to the despair of their fans. But it only made for a quick re-think and vocalist Steve Joliffe had left the band by the time they went back into the studio. The spacey Tangerine Dream sound was back, but better than ever, with even more adventurous effects and more structure to the songs. If songs is what you call these pieces of music. The shortest piece clocks in at seven minutes and twenty one seconds, while the opening title track is a massive eighteen and a half minutes. It opens the album in grand style, keyboards come sweeping in after the opening theme, building to a crashing climax with all instruments joining in one by one, layer upon layer, before settling down when the opening theme is reintroduced on acoustic guitar and the music takes of again at a more manageable pace. A grand piano takes you off on one of Tangerine's musical journeys into the unknown. Soon Edgar Froese's electric guitar comes into duel with the piano before jumping off at a different tangent, before being brought back into the song by the piano, allowing the keyboards to make themselves heard. So at ten minutes along you are finally into the real meat of the music. As the music takes a second to pause at the eleven minute mark, a ghost train huffs and puffs its way across your speakers, taking you into a far more sinister area of the Tangerine Dream mind, where the sounds of the mellotron, VCS3, organ, e-piano, synthesizers, and flute leave you with a feeling of being watched, whilst in the dark the sounds, emanating from the band, whisk from speaker to speaker. However, just before it gets too weird the keyboards come back in with the main theme of the song and before you know it, you are back in the musical sunshine, and all of the loose ends of the instruments tie together to bring the music to a gloriously satisfying conclusion.

Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure 1967 -2014 (Book) English Version

Artist: Edgar Froese
P:
2014 / 2017

The one and only AUTOBIOGRAPHY of TANGERINE DREAM written by EDGAR FROESE himself, more than 390 pages, authentic, sincere and free-spirited - the extraordinary adventures of a band and especially its head and founder, Edgar Froese, who were writing history together with their electronic innovations in a fossilized landscape of music in the seventies.
Edgar's narrative style in "FORCE MAJEURE" is very straightforward and uncompromising reflecting his 'storm and stress' period in the sixties. At the same time his language is humorous and picturesque - a language you are already familiar with from his musical compositions. This book is exciting from the beginning till the end even for people who don't know Edgar or Tangerine Dream. You will read quite a few never told stories as well as a straightforward correction of many rumours circulating among fans through the years. Edgar will also give credit to those people who did help the band on various levels with their creative support and warm-hearted advice. So everything will come out of one hand – an extraordinary pioneering story about the suffering and longing of someone who started just to create some progressive sounds and ended up writing history.
This autobiography does not only inform about a career of a band, but Edgar mainly provides an insight into his life, the life and work of his band, their numerous concert tours through the world, their thinking and acting, their inspirations, cooperations and conflicts. Some strange episodes with some colleagues who gave the band a hard time as well as hundreds of encounters and episodes with many interesting and well-known personalities like Salvador Dalí, David Bowie, Richard Branson, Andy Warhol, John Peel, Andy Summers, Jimi Hendrix, Oliver Stone, Jim Rakete, Stevie Nicks, Ridley Scott, Michael Mann, Brigitte Bardot etc. - just to mention a few. More than 45 years on stage and 16 years of scoring in Hollywood have offered that much content and destiny that it could have been sufficient for two lives.
Edgar had been writing this autobiography for more than seven years and invested every single minute of time for this project besides his numerous concert tours and album productions. The time has come to release it to the public and you will have the opportunity to realize this project by supporting your favorite band.
