Stephan Whitlan + Ron Boots - Seven Days

Artist: Stephan Whitlan & Ron Boots
P: 2017

New collaboration of two wonderful styles.
Ron keeps a real kaleidoscope of lovely gear in his studio so recording was often a choice of selecting which bits to use. I liked some synths so much I have since bought ones myself , and others I crossed off my shopping list.
A sub-project was to evaluate his new Minimoog; I've owned and played 2 for more than 30 years, so the test was to see if it behaved like mine. I was quickly at home with it and used it for all my lead-lines (whereas Ron tended to use other instruments).
Although production work was pretty well split between us during recording, Ron deserves special credit for the subsequent work tweaking and finalising.

This is the live recording of the improvisation of E-Day 2018. Ron, Stephen and Harold filled up 70 minutes of time while the hall waited for Ryan Air to deliver the instruments of Ulrich Schnauss. This is a 2 track live recording of this live set without goofing around with extra's. 3 Hours before this set they musicians had not even decided to go on stage!

Stephan Whitlan + Ron Boots - Three Day Week

Artist: Stephan Whitlan & Ron Boots
P: 2019

Three Day Week is a tour de force of Sequencing. Get 2 musicians in a room, fire up the synths and Sequencers and let them run!! That is what we did in April 2019. Stephen was over for his E-Day performance and after the weekend we set up in the studio and just started experimenting. What happened after we pushed start is partly on this release. The Sequencer parts are recorded live and in one run. We concentrated full on the Sequencing parts during these runs, no soloing (not even Stephen!!) and no accompanied parts. Bare Raw Sequencing was what we where left with. After that we listened through them a decision of which recordings to use was made and started with the additional music. We even asked Harold to join in after we had our UK concert in Lea Hall where we did parts of what we did in the Studio. We hope you enjoy this Sequencer fest!! And yes PLAY THIS LOUD!!

Artist: Various Artists
P: 2011
LTD: 400

As follow-up to the highly successful Analogy series (part 1, 2, and 3), Groove Unlimited is now releasing a new sampler.
This time the approach is very different. The idea is to do an album with Dutch EM artists and let them compose music to a painting they like. The album is called 'Dutch Masters' and you will hear music the artists composed to paintings of Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mondriaan, Escher, Bosch and many more.
Artists that participated are: Ron Boots, Gert Emmens, Eric van der Heijden, Bas Broekhuis, Remy, Synth.nl, Rene Splinter, Meesha, and René van der Wouden. If you want to hear how these artists translate the image of their favorite painting into music get a hold of this album.

V/A - E-Scape 2015

Artist: V/A
P: 2015
'E-Scape 2015′ is a collection of exclusive tracks from artists who will be appearing at the 2015 UK E-Scape Festival on 30th May. Despite the varied line up and styles on offer, this CD hangs together very well and is a very emotive album. From the classic opening UK synth sound of John Dyson and Michael Shipway’s ‘Ride the Beach’, through the romanticism of Dreamerproject’s ‘Hymne’, and the Berlin school adventures of Ron Boots’s ‘Berlin Thunder’, the album never dips below ‘excellent’ and there are no throwaway tracks here. Eric van der Heijden’s ‘Strange Escapism’ is a surreal sound voyage, FD Project’s ‘Beautiful Day’ is a full on, guitar driven live recording. David Wright’s ‘Walking With Ghosts’ Ambient Remix by DJMass is an interesting take on an old favourite and ‘Song for a Friend’ is a delicate rhythmic, ballad dedicated to the late Steve Roberts. Glenn Main’s beautiful ‘Escape the TNBC’ also has a strong personal overtone. Nice to hear music from Paul Ward again too, the interesting and playful ‘The Last Toy Emily Broke’ while Ron Boots concludes the album with the drifting and spaced out ‘Slow Flow’.

The album is dedicated to the memory of Edgar Froese and Steve Roberts.

This 2015 release features 77 minutes of dreamy electronic music.

This release offers previously unreleased tracks by musicians participating in AD Music’s E-Scape Electronic Music Festival in 2015. The contributions include:

John Dyson & Michael Shipway. Twinkling tones conspire with cerebral chords to produce an elegant tune laced with rhythms.

David Wright. Solemn beats and melancholy keyboards craft a stately piece dedicated to lost friends.

Eric van der Heijden. Reedy keys combine with breathy flutes and gentle percussives to generate a moody track in search of a way out.

Dreamerproject. Delicate harpsichord, rhythms and orchestral strings create a reverent song of tender sentiments.

Ron Boots. Majestic-but-understated electronics generate a mood of anticipation with cyclic chords seasoned by synthetic strings. The music gradually swells in muster, featuring a blooping undercurrent as the song’s puissance mounts to a loving crescendo.

Paul Ward. Strong rhythms support slippery keys that describe an edgy tune.

FD Project. Vibrant electric guitar is the key instrument here, accompanied by percussion and a ringing presence of pulsating tonalities to establish an ecstatic live piece.

David Wright. Regal tones delineate a pleasant tune laced with choral hints and whispery keys lurking beneath the more strident keyboard lead-riff.

Glenn Main. Piano joins electronic keys in a pastiche of fragile beauty that uplifts as it mesmerizes. The introduction of searing guitar midway elevates the piece’s inherent passion.

Ron Boots. Here, we have an epic (and winning) contribution-at 21 minutes in length. Rattly percussives tease vaporous electronics to coalesce into a soothing ambience that mounts some stately oomph with piano and additional keys, transforming the song into a lavishly emotional composition.

A worthwhile selection of international musicians, all displaying their skills at producing delicate electronic tuneage.

V/A - E-Scape 2018

Artist: V/A
P: 2018
‘E-Scape 2018’ is a collection of exclusive studio and unreleased tracks from artists performing at the 2018 UK E-Scape Festival. The music is a varied collection of traditional electronic music of the spacey, sequencer style and it all hangs together nicely as a cohesive electronic music album. Code Indigo open proceedings with the moody 12 minute epic ‘Redemption’, a forgotton unreleased gem from 2002. Next up is Ron Boots with the melancholy but upbeat ‘Cries in the Mist’ and things liven up with the foot stomping, guitar driven ‘Deep Dream’ from FD Project. VoLt  present another gem with the excellent and traditional 80’s style em ‘Circadian Cycle’, before we then go into experimental space music mode with the exploratory ‘Orcadian Voyager Dives Again’ by Concept Devices. ‘Industrial Sunset-Leaving Town’ by Gazz Collins picks things up again weaving its seductive rhythmic spell. We then move into the longest track on the album, a great slice of electronica/rock, ‘Thunder Road’ by Ron Boots. The album closes with ‘Krystal Halls Highway’, a tribute to the late Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock, performed by Code Indigo and featuring Klaus. The track is a reworking of a previously unreleased David Wright/Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock track ‘Krystal Halls’. E-Scape 2018 is sure to appeal to fans of traditional sequencer styled, spacey electronic music
