Tangerine Dream - Phaedra (Japan)

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1974/ 2009
This is the Japan version.
When the album "Phaedra" hit the album charts worldwide back in 1974, no one had foreseen such a remarkable career of a new musical sound created by Tangerine Dream. All instruments were new and unknown to the audience. The sound itself was the opposite of all common music at those days. During the concerts the band created an uncomparable atmosphere.
This 1974 masterpiece from Christopher Franke, Edgar Froese, and Peter Baumann ebbs and flows with richly dark soundscapes of electronic sounds and synth. After listening to Phaedra it's easy to understand why. The signature pulsing of thick, beautiful Tangerine Dream synth falls across the ambient treasures here, pulling along the orchestral dreamscape before oozing aside for thick washes of expansive sound. The now-classic title cut is both soothing and ghostly, throbbing with subtle sequences and twisted metallic calls before diving into a swamp of nightmarish whistles and hoots. "Mysterious Semblance" soars and swoops like a lovely electronic eagle, bringing tripped-out light and cosmic dignity to the collection. This and the follow-up Rubycon are juicy pieces to the Tangerine Dream pie.

Now, more than 30 years later you can listen to the modern form of this classic recording. The material has been re-recorded by using partly the same kind instruments as on the original recording. Also the new digital technology has played a keyrole during various recording sessions. It was not the intension to please all the TD purists and analogue fans but you will have an idea of how the band is still connected to the style and trademark that has made them so original.
The additional title "Delfi" has been composed 2005 in the spirit of the seventies.

Tangerine Dream - Phaedra Farewell Tour 2014 Live in London (DVD)

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2015

The London concert of the PHAEDRA FAREWELL TOUR 2014 on 23rd May at O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire was the second concert in a row of a long multi-week tour after starting in Paris. This DVD once again reflects the typical and especially warm welcome of our British TD fans during a Tangerine Dream concert in London - as Edgar often named as "TD's home." It was the last time for the band performing as a five man/woman band - Iris and Linda still were present. After that tour TD started the so-called QUANTUM YEARS with three concerts in Australia as a four man/woman band with the new member Ulrich Schnauss. Enjoy this special concert as a very good mixture of classic and earlier TD tracks, at the same time this DVD is a wonderful memory of one of the last concerts with the mastermind of TD Edgar Froese.

Tangerine Dream - Poland

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 1984 / 1996

Recorded live at the Ice Stadium in December 1983 in Warsaw-Poland. Recorded against all the odds at a concert played in sub-zero temperatures and plagued by powercuts in Communist Poland in December 1983, this album represents the very pinnacle of Tangerine Dream's live achievements in their 80's incarnation of Chris Franke, Edgar Froese and Johannes Schmoelling. It also marks the band's break from Virgin records, being the first of their releases on the Jive-Electro label, and thus the first album of their so-called Blue Years. Featuring four sets, each of about 20 minutes duration, all of the music here is flawless, both in its construction and its execution. It bears all of the classic Tangerine Dream hallmarks: beautiful synthesiser melodies, staggering guitar playing, gorgeous electronic textures woven about slowly developed minimalist percussion patterns and chord changes. With lots of variety both of tempo and timbre, and with some beautiful sampled sounds and stunning percussion programming, "Poland" holds the attention as few other Tangerine Dream works either before or since. It contains not a single dull moment and offers much to both surprise and delight. And now as a single CD instead of a double LP, it's also great value for money!

Tangerine Dream - Probe 6-8

Artist: Tangerine Dream
P: 2021

'Probe 6-8' is the band’s preview to their upcoming album in March 2022, the second studio album after the passing of the founder Edgar Froese.
For the first time in decades, Tangerine Dream’s tracks can not exactly be re-created for a live performance. An EP, which was not meant to be performed live, as a direct response to the many canceled shows of the last months.
Classic studio productions and late night real time compositions became the blueprint for slowly evolving ambient structures. The band’s sequencer driven sound in the tradition of the early '70s work was combined with lush 1980s crystalline bliss. Thorsten Quaeschning, Hoshiko Yamane and Paul Frick composed and produced with full access to Edgar Froese’s Cubase arrangements and Otari Tape Archive with recordings from 1977 – 2013.
This EP also contains two remixes: Berlin-based composer and producer Grand River (Aimée Portioli) gave 'Raum' her signature sound. 'Contiunuum' was remixed by Berghain resident and Leisure System co-founder Sam Barker, who harnesses kick-less ambient techno since his praised 2019 debut album 'Utility'.
