Alpha Wave Movement

Alpha Wave Movement

Alpha Wave Movement (established 1992) is the electronic music project of Gregory T. Kyryluk. Alpha Wave Movement's musical style can be considered ambient, New Age, some space rock, and the classic 1970s period German style electronic music otherwise known as Berlin school and the ambient aesthetics of Brian Eno, and Steve Roach. Alpha Wave Movement's other projects include Thought Guild, Open Canvas and Kyryluk's solo releases.

Alpha Wave Movement - Kinetic

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement

The album begins with the title track and if I didn't know better I'd easily be fooled into believing that it's a Tangerine Dream track from the 80's. Gregory has perfected the sound to a tee from the lush synths and sequences and not forgetting the all-important guitar. Moving on 'Dark Meridan' combines choral voices and a stabbing bass-line with harmonious keys creating a dream like atmosphere that also seems to nod back to yesteryear reminding me somewhat of the Yellow Magic Orchestra. Whilst 'Machine Mambo' combines atmospheric synths and digital rhythms with a slight eastern tinge. The vintage vibe continues with 'D.E.I. (Direct Emotional Interface) once again reminiscent of TD or Klaus Schulze both in the elongated beat-less intro and when the slow paced electronic beat kicks in. I'm finding elements of Kraftwerk and YMO with a sprinkling of Ozric's in 'Anoraxis' whereas 'Synergistic Highway' begins in a more foreboding manner the light soon shines through in a similar fashion.Atmospheric thunder leads us into a more dubby affair with a slightly Parisian like feel on 'Ecoutez' and finally to close the proceedings 'Metronomy' runs looping sequences with deep synths settling somewhere between Ozrics and Pink Floyd. Overall this is a really solid album from Alpha Wave Movement that truly reflects the synthesized music of yesteryear in a glorious fashion. A fashion that pays homage and doesn't fail in the quality of the tracks in the slightest.

Alpha Wave Movement - Myriad Stars

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement
P: 2011
"Myriad Stars" is a brand new album by Gregory Kyryluk, the sole creator of Alpha Wave Movement, released in September 2011 on his own Harmonic Resonance Recordings label. The album fires with deeply drifting "Beacon 1" graciously opening the gates to this joyous intergalactic space odyssey. Spiced with pulsing mid-paced effects it creates warmly inviting atmosphere. Celestial washes open "The Dark Lure", colored with futuristic sonics, this piece quickly transfers into more melodious plateau, gently pulsing and rhythmed electronics with own, trademarking AWM sound sculpting. Well done, Greg! "Beacon 2" utilizes absolutely charming melodies, perfectly balanced with grandeur drifts. Yes, this is AWM at his most sophisticated craft exploring the depth of extraterrestrial realms! Then follow two parts of "Gravity Well Flux", with the first one being rather more deeper and mysterious, while the second part is progressing into active texture in shimmering Berlin School EM fashion, simultaneously atmospheric and driving. "Beacon 3" incorporates hauntingly dreamy airwaves with semi-melodic elements and angelic choir-like sounds, a true celestial beauty in my ears! "Anatomical Universe" is attractively painted with free floating stratospheric ambience and later joined by ear-catching kinetic rhythms, undoubtedly the most moving composition on this trip, again with skillfully bridged dreamy atmospheres and pulsing melodies. "Singularities" drifts into deeper space enriched ocassionally by various bubling cybernetics and processed heavenly choirs, later semi-melodious patterns are added, definitely a true masterpiece!!! Over 14 minutes long "Star Birth" remains in the deeper and vast territories with its warmly aerial and absorbing skyscapes with fragile sonic gurgles, later invaded by sharper, crystal clear space melodies. Another highly elegant and magnetizing sculpting! "73 74 61 72" is the closing composition enriched with space rumblings, hisses, gurgles..., rather intense and sonorous, more experimental texture, colored also by various processed radio transmissions, adventurous outro! "Myriad Stars" by Alpha Wave Movement is another fine space/ambient album demonstrating potential, craft and musicality of Gregory Kyryluk, it's highly recommended sonic journey to look deeper into the vast expanse of the universe.

Alpha Wave Movement - Phase Intervals

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement
P: 2023
Surpassing the boundaries of late 1990's CPU driven analog modeling synthesis into new timbral terrains. A melange of interlocking live improvisation infused within a nostalgic ambient and Teutonic framework. Four compositions of live improvised electronic music (w/ minimal over-dubs) created on 2 hardware synthesizers a Access Virus-A and a Roland SH-01A. No external sequencers, sampling, drum machines or computer assistance aside from recording the events.  AWM revisits the borders of the late 90s, when processors were incorporated into synths, merging analog and digital in possibilities to obtain an immeasurable variety of new tones, new sound timbres.

Alpha Wave Movement - Polyphasic Music

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement
P: 2019
The concept of this music is the sleep cycle (which is poly/multi leveled process the body executes when engaged in the sleep cycle) and drawing one into a quiet listening space away from the chatter of bits and bytes and standard "urban" forced noise distractions.
Music to quiet the mind and bring one into a relaxed state of being.
The music was improvised with zero use of computers to assist in composition. There are some arpeggios utilizing the Nord Leads built in arpeggiator but quantization, sampled loops etc are nowhere to be found.
I purposely tried to create a direct minimalist approach unencumbered with the on-slaught of rhythmic distractions and instead chose an organic connection that balances human and machine/electronic instrument.

Alpha Wave Movement - Resonant Waves

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement
P: 2024
Once more fusing pure hardware synthesis with spontaneous improvisation into emotive electronica glossolalia. Taking the mind set of 2023's Phase Intervals and stretching the sound worlds further into the boundless ether world of modern synthesizer music.
Resonating clusters spiraling inward, outward and somewhere deeper into the ether lands of sound.
Album composition notes:
"Haiku" & "Moss Falls" were both spontaneously created improvisations composed live using the Behringer Pro-800 synthesizer's arpeggiator for rhythm and live electronic atmosphere such as the synthesized insect sounds textures. The Nord A1 was used on Haiku for the resonant squelching.

Alpha Wave Movement - Soniq Variants

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement
P: 2011
Ambient music composed on and inspired by Ensoniq synthesizers.
The album opens effectively with 10-minute piece "Sundial West", nicely spiraling sequences with aerial hypnotic textures, wonderful! And the next one, "Eternal Panorama", gets even more relaxing with its elegant rhythmic elements, plus stunning percussive ingredients, a pure sonic vista! "Transwave Oscillations" starts quite monumentally, but the tension is relieved very soon by some smooth, clean and refined downtempos. The album turns into slower emotional compositions with "Sustained Environment" and "Sweeping The Soniq Spectrum", but this one moves soon to much more lively textures. "Dynamic Atmosphere" belongs to slower floaters with slowly evolving and swirling dynamics, another exactly fitting track name. Greg seems to be very strong in this one too. "Wave Gliding" keeps the path and "Contours & Cloudforms" closes this elegantly sculpted ride with all its majesty and tranquillity.

Mission "Ensoniq", blending electronic rhythms and soundscaping, has been successfully completed and "Soniq Variants" is highly recommended to all AWM fans. And if you are a new to AWM soundworlds, don't hesitate too.

Alpha Wave Movement - System A

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement
P: 2014
A variable region of tonal highways where the stellar fields are the central force driving create muses. The cryptic particulates of matter co-mingle with electronic modulations and distant murmuring throbs of pulsar emanations. Music that ventures beyond this mortal coil into deeper stygian vistas and fringe archaic cosmos.

Alpha Wave Movement - Terra

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement
P: 2005 / 2008
All music conceived & created by Gregory Kyryluk 2005 except for Track 7 recorded 2008
Music on this cd was originally conceived for a limited pressed DVD also titled "Terra". The music on Terra was at the time exclusive to the DVD, however I believe this limited the exposure to many eager listeners. Here now is the entire soundtrack from the DVD with the inclusion of a bonus track Terra Infinitus which was composed to compliment the spacious imagery on the DVD.
Expansive, atmospheric, melodic ambient electronica.
Terra is a delicate album of graceful synth music that features elegant piano lines, bright wispy electro chimes, bowl-like phrases and broad tonal swells as the main voices, supported by fine washes and twinkling textures. Synthetic strings keen and swell, fine gossamer threads and films of sound run one into another whilst melodic arpeggios and meandering scales wander over the surface. The depth and intensity of the music ranges from silken stratospheric strains and airstreams to crepuscular drone banks and glimmering twilight ripples. In places simple bass phrases pulse indolently beneath the gently heaving liquid of the drones and breezy sequential structures, but not for long - much of the music too skyward looking and gliding to be bound and grounded by such low frequencies.
The strictly electronic sonic sources for Terra make for a clean, spacious sound that suggests the clarity and tranquillity of dawn, the subtle shifting hues of early evening. Alpha Wave Movement builds tracks around digital synthesizers and MIDI equipment influenced by natural landscapes and scenic photography - here, more than ever I've felt that connection with the earth from Gregory's compositions.
A sense of comfortable solitude pervades much of the album, almost plaintive in places, but more generally reflective, calm - enjoying the mental vistas conjured up by this delightfully understated soundscaping.

Alpha Wave Movement - The Edge of Infinity

Artist: Alpha Wave Movement
P: 1995 / 2007
This album was originally recorded in 1995-96 and is now re-released with
an extra bonus track previously unreleased. It is Alpha Wave Movement's second release. The Label liked Transcendence so well that they invited Gregory Kyryluk, the artist behind Alpha Wave Movement, to submit his new work to them. The tracks on The Edge of Infinity are much more percussive than those on Transcendence, and have more drive and movement. It is both more exciting and more interesting and shows considerable maturity and sophistication. The ambient landscapes created are spacious and mysterious, with both light and dark textures. Recommended tracks include: "Binary Code 51", "The Edge of Infinity", "Monolith" and "Purge", although all tracks are strong. This album should please radio audiences of electronic/ambient shows. Give it a serious listen.
