Peter Mergener - Cruisin'

Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 2002

Returning to the best of his style in the Space Sequencer Music, Peter Mergener draws the plot of an exciting story of futuristic action with strong brush strokes.
Melodies which often turn out to be mysterious, powerful rhythms and cybernetic ambiences are the master lines where this brilliant album is based on.
Peter Mergener, who has come to fame within the world of electronic music through his ground breaking work as a member of Software and Mergener/Weisser, presents eleven sparkling tracks from a decade of inspired work for the first timed to the public on his new album "Cruisin". The multi instrumentalist, composer and producer explains: "Again and again I ended up with tracks that I liked but didn't fit on my current albums for one or the other reason. So I started to keep them in store and wait for the right moment to turn them into a special album." Mergener himself was surprised when that album developed into more than just a rarities-compilation: "When I started to work on a running order for the tracks, a kind of musical fantasy trip started to emerge. A trip through space which leads back to Planet Earth on the last two tracks."

Peter Mergener - Instinctive Traveller

Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 1997
This CD from 1997 features 66 minutes of exciting electronic music.
This music was recorded live at KLEM Dag 1996 in Nijmegen. Joining Mergener on-stage are: Carsten Schnell on keyboards and violin, Ingo von Wenzlawowicz on drums and percussion, and Achim Elsen on guitar.
Majestic melodies spill forth with enthusiastic verve. Demonstrative keyboards establish a solid foundation of exuberant chords that twirl and mesh with determined percussion, glorious guitar, and stylish violin. Heavenly airs punctuate these dynamic harmonics, giving the audience celestial respite before the concert launches into its next stage of over-abundant sonic reward. Clever hooks are employed with calculated abandon, resulting in never a dull moment.
Application of rock guitar lends the astral flow an earthy tether, reminding the listener of mortal origins that are easily forgotten from the lofty heights achieved by this music. Comparisons could be drawn to Pink Floyd, except that Floyd never indulged in such truly cosmic territories in their music. Mergener's accomplishment is riddled with emphatic ambience of a sort that defies sedation, evoking instead wide-eyed wonder and breath-taking moods.

Peter Mergener - Lounge Control

Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 2004
On "Lounge Control", his seventh album for PRUDENCE, Mergener once more shines as a soundsculptor of extraordinary sensitivity. But what is most interesting: In spite of his impressive career in electronic music, the artist is still curious and open to new trends:
This time Peter Mergener has taken the various nuances of modern lounge music as starting point for his musical adventures. But not in order to create a regular lounge- or chill out-album himself, but to add new sonic territory to his own huge and colourful musical cosmos. The result is the most cheerful Peter Mergener album so far.
This work is a fresh combination of influences coming from Atmospheric Pop, Synth-Pop, Ambient and Trance. The melodies usually are warm, soft, with a certain romantic air. The rhythmic structure of the music tends to be based on the percussion typical of Pop as a general rule, as well as on sequencers. These latter ones contribute some traits of Space Sequencer to the music, although the general outline here described is the predominant one. The electronic orchestrations contribute in a remarkable way to recreate the landscapes suggested by each piece. The album also includes elements typical of the most symphonic side of the New Instrumental Music.

Peter Mergener - Mare Nostrum

Artist: Peter Mergener & Friends
P: 2020

MARE NOSTRUM is the Latin term for our sea. As a free continuation of the music for the mystical night of bread and games in Trier (composed especially for it at the time: Nox Mystica and Vitam aut Mortem), this album was created on the theme of our sea. It appears again under the project name Mergener et Amici, and once again highly esteemed musicians have participated. Mare Nostrum is also the name of the supercomputer that is installed in the Torre Girona church in Barcelona and that creates calculations for research worldwide. The ocean as the origin of all life and man as the highest earthly form of life and his creativity find a mystical musical combination here. Mergener et Amici means mergener and friends: Alquimia, Rüdiger Gleisberg, Michael Wald and Anton Zinkl contributed.

Peter Mergener - New Horizons

Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 2023

Peter Mergener, known since the 80s for his IC releases under the name "Software", celebrates a small comeback with "New Horizons" and presents a first-class Berlin school album in the old Software style.
After Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze, Mergener was the "next generation" of the Berlin School and enjoyed great popularity with "Electronic Universe" and "Phancyful Fire". After numerous stylistically different publications on different labels, Peter has recently become quieter. All the more gratifying that Peter used the time to produce a first-class electronic album again. Harmonious choir pads create a deep atmosphere from which hypnotic sequences gradually emerge, condense and build up to a top Berlin School title. A diverse, homogenous album has emerged, compositionally flowing with sensitivity, incorporating stylistic elements of Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dreams and also Atmos, which are known from software. Great for dreaming and drifting away.

Peter Mergener - Noises In The Sky

Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 1999

Good music creates visions in the listener´s mind. Especially spheric electronic music has traditionally been connected, by its creators and their listeners alike, with images from outer space.
On of the most respected musicians from Europe´s electronic music scene continues this tradition in a quite unusual manner: each of the twelve tracks on his new album "Noises In the Sky" is based on a space-imagination.
In his fantasy, PETER MERGENER has found these exiting sounds by listening to the sky. He has transformed them into music. The German composer has become prominent through his innovative work with projects such as Software and G.E.N.E. as well as his soundtrack work like the score to the tv-docu-series "Terra X".
This release from 1998 offers 62 minutes of cosmic electronics.
Joining Mergener in this studio project are: Achim Elson on guitar, and Ingo von Wenzlawowicz on percussion. While voices (provided by Kathryn Thornton and Rusty Schweickart) grace a few brief tracks, the rest of the album is instrumental in nature.
Giving in to conventional associations drawn by the public between most electronic music and outer space, Mergener explores the galactic void with the music on this release. Half of this music is vibrant and rhythmic, pulsating electronic textures and chugging chords and propulsive percussion. These tunes possess an expansive quality, outgoing and relentless with subtle pop undertones. Often frenetic rhythms goad the tuneage to breathless velocities as keyboard riffs meld into expressive sequences of celestial awe. Mechanical devices are employed to enhance the illusion of space travel, delivering enormous scope to the melodies. Astral guitar, again squealing in a progrock mode, provides a powerful element to these already exuberant passages.
The peppier, more epic pieces are generally separated by more ethereal compositions, affording the audience the opportunity to reboot their sensibilities in preparation for the grandeur lying ahead in the next major composition. These lighter pieces undulate with languid qualities, giving electronic voice to the nebulous demeanor of interstellar domains.
