Peter Mergener - Noises In The Sky

Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 1999

Good music creates visions in the listener´s mind. Especially spheric electronic music has traditionally been connected, by its creators and their listeners alike, with images from outer space.
On of the most respected musicians from Europe´s electronic music scene continues this tradition in a quite unusual manner: each of the twelve tracks on his new album "Noises In the Sky" is based on a space-imagination.
In his fantasy, PETER MERGENER has found these exiting sounds by listening to the sky. He has transformed them into music. The German composer has become prominent through his innovative work with projects such as Software and G.E.N.E. as well as his soundtrack work like the score to the tv-docu-series "Terra X".
This release from 1998 offers 62 minutes of cosmic electronics.
Joining Mergener in this studio project are: Achim Elson on guitar, and Ingo von Wenzlawowicz on percussion. While voices (provided by Kathryn Thornton and Rusty Schweickart) grace a few brief tracks, the rest of the album is instrumental in nature.
Giving in to conventional associations drawn by the public between most electronic music and outer space, Mergener explores the galactic void with the music on this release. Half of this music is vibrant and rhythmic, pulsating electronic textures and chugging chords and propulsive percussion. These tunes possess an expansive quality, outgoing and relentless with subtle pop undertones. Often frenetic rhythms goad the tuneage to breathless velocities as keyboard riffs meld into expressive sequences of celestial awe. Mechanical devices are employed to enhance the illusion of space travel, delivering enormous scope to the melodies. Astral guitar, again squealing in a progrock mode, provides a powerful element to these already exuberant passages.
The peppier, more epic pieces are generally separated by more ethereal compositions, affording the audience the opportunity to reboot their sensibilities in preparation for the grandeur lying ahead in the next major composition. These lighter pieces undulate with languid qualities, giving electronic voice to the nebulous demeanor of interstellar domains.

Every year in August the Roman festival "Bread & Games" take place in Trier, Germany¹s oldest city. Main locations are the unique Roman monuments, the "Kaiserthermen" and the amphitheatre. Both magnificent structures have been placed on the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage. The program of the historical event offers attractive entertainment for everybody. In the amphitheatre you can see exciting gladiators-fights and a parade of Roman soldiers (legions), at night-time the arena is illuminated by torches. In the Kaiserthermen you can experience the daily life in a Roman camp on the Palästra. A special atmosphere in the "Mystical Nights" was created by Peter Mergener & friends (Mergener et Amici) and his sound installations in the illuminated underground labyrinth of the ancient bath. The music written by Peter Mergener and Alquimia, was specially designed for this event and was the first time Mergener et Amici presented their music live on stage August 2004.

Peter Mergener - Passage in Time 2 CD
Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 2014
LTD
Exclusiv at CUE-Records the new limited double CD version with additional tracks in a nice digipack. In 1991 the CD "Passage in Time" followed on the CD "Creatures", which was highly acclaimed by critics. 1989 Mergener left Michael Weisser, with whom he released numerous albums under the name "Software". Mergener wanted to go his own musical paths. With “Software” he was only responsible for the musical realization of beauty of Hi Tec, but Peter wanted to devoted himself more the worldly and human affairs. He reminds us of the transience of things and the hunt ny humans for ever more technology and profit. He created titles like “Mechanical World” or “Paradise Lost” and the album ends with the titles “Harmony with Nature” and “Praise” as a kind of hymn to the Creator. "We are all travelers through time, which keeps us as a soap bubble floating in the vastness of eternity, so Brigitte Novalis describes the CD booklet of the 1991 released original CD at CUE Records. Due to the large demand, Mergener has decided to re-release the album. He also created new additional titles and other versions of the original tracks can be heard on a second CD.
All titles have been technically remastered and Mergener improved the sound.
This double CD is now available in a very attractive new Digipack.

Peter Mergener - Phonetic Society

Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 2010
On “Phonetic Society” Mergener returns to his personal artistic roots, by using more electronics and less acoustic instruments than on his latest offerings. Here once again you find wide, spacey sound scapes, sequencer runs, robots, digits and experiments. The technical world in all its cold beauty, expressed by elements of the traditional Berlin school of electronics as well as by modern beats. Both currents are brought together in the track “Time Passengers”. Here younger listeners get a chance to learn about the Berlin sound while older fans might be pleasantly surprised by the more modern grooves on this remarkable album. Peter Mergener, internationally renowned founder of important New Instrumental music groups such as SOFTWARE, deals with a hot issue on his new solo album “Phonetic Society”: the information overload! “We have to live in a constant stream of music and diverse noises, sounds are everywhere”, says Mergener. “Through our mobiles phones and other technical gadgets we are continually connected with some kind of sound”. This is why German composer Mergener speaks of a “Phonetic Society”. On his new album the thoughtful and sensitive sound sculptor tries to depict this man ic world through the means of music (as in the title track “Phonetic Society”), but also to complement it with relaxing and soothing moments (as in the track “Floating Energy”).

Peter Mergener - Vitam Aut Mortem

Artist: Peter Mergener
P: 2008

In 2008 the central topic for Mergeners “Mystical Night” will be “Aqua Vitae” (Water Of Life). And for the first time the music will be released on cd prior to the event: The album “vitam aut mortem” by Mergener et Amici presents the most fascinating parts of the new sound installations on 12 tracks, from “panem et circences” to “nox perpetua”. Once again it proves, that Mergener, who once became known in the electronic music scene as part of the groundbreaking outfit Software and has since enjoyed an internationally respected solo career, is a master when it comes down to combining ancient musical topics with futuristic sounds. Exquisite contributions to the music on “vitam aut mortem” came from Mergeners “Amici”: Mexican ambient-songstress Alquimia and USAmerican New Age-producer Gary Stadler both composed two tracks, Alquimia also shared vocals with Wendy Rule and Stephanie Scott.
