Jolliffe, Steve

Jolliffe, Steve

Born in England on 28th April 1949, Steve Jolliffe has been an active composer for forty years. His extraordinary career started in 1967, when he met Rick Davies and formed a group called The Joint, which evolved into Supertramp. Jolliffe's interest in classical music led him to the "Berlin High School for Music" in 1968. He was the first student to be accepted who could not read music. While at the school, he met Edgar Froese, and together with Klaus Schulze toured Germany for a year as one of the earliest incarnations of Tangerine Dream. Steve left Tangerine Dream. Steve rejoined Tangerine Dream in 1978 and together with Froese, Christopher Franke and Klaus Krüger, recorded the album Cyclone. The quartet toured Europe that year.

Steve Jolliffe - Space

Artist: Steve Jolliffe
P: 2002
Limited edition with autograph by Steve.
The vast infinitude of space is simultaneously all-encompassing and unknowable. It is all around and still untouchable. It can be studied, but it may never be grasped. Simply put, space inspires awe in those who desire to comprehend it.
In this spirit of wonder and adventure, Horizon Music announces the release of Space, the latest effort from critically acclaimed British composer Steve Jolliffe. Although many have encountered Jolliffe’s name in connection with the pioneering electronic band Tangerine Dream, he has spent the last two decades perfecting his own formula of synthesized music blended with acoustic elements. This fusion, embodied in this album as on his others, continues his outstanding track record of uniting traditional and futuristic sounds in his signature fashion.
From the moment the fluid “Expandere” opens the disc until the closing passages of “Eros,” Space moves through symphonic, trance-dance, acoustic and retro elements in a driving, exciting combination. Jolliffe again moves forward while simultaneously echoing electronica’s roots. The album will appeal equally to those listeners discovering Jolliffe’s work for the first time as well as his loyal fans who have come to expect such a high-quality offering from a veteran of the progressive instrumental field.

Steve Jolliffe - Temmenu

Artist: Steve Jolliffe
P: 1996 / 2008
Limited edition with autograph by Steve.
"Temmenu" is a remixed version of the 1985 MC "Voices" Original CD release 1996 on Sine Records label. Temmenu is apparently a star set at 28° in the shoulder of the constellation of Taurus. Babylonian astronomers named it this, the literal translation being "foundation stone", and it was regarded by the ancients as the central sun of the universe. It's even rumoured that Egyptian priests received communications from a race which travelled from Sirius and Temmenu. All fascinating stuff, and it's good to see that trouble has been taken to supplement the excellent sleeve graphics with some decent information. Musically the album consists of a single piece titled 'Voices'. The sleevenotes proclaim that the music has "the ability to create sympathetic vibrations designed to transfer your being to a separate reality" and they also go on to say that "in theory 35 octaves separate Earth time from solar time".

Steve Jolliffe - The Bruton Suite

Artist: Steve Jolliffe
P: 2003
Limited edition with autograph by Steve.
"Bruton Suite" was originally written in the 1970's for a newly formed Virgin label. Ricxhard Branson flush with the successes of Mike Oldfield and Tangerine Dream wanted more electronic instrumental. For whatever reasons, ask mR Branson this classic has laid lost since then...
Recorded and reconstructed during 2002 / 03 this long lost instrumental classic is released at long last to stand side by side with its original stable mates...
