Jolliffe, Steve

Jolliffe, Steve

Born in England on 28th April 1949, Steve Jolliffe has been an active composer for forty years. His extraordinary career started in 1967, when he met Rick Davies and formed a group called The Joint, which evolved into Supertramp. Jolliffe's interest in classical music led him to the "Berlin High School for Music" in 1968. He was the first student to be accepted who could not read music. While at the school, he met Edgar Froese, and together with Klaus Schulze toured Germany for a year as one of the earliest incarnations of Tangerine Dream. Steve left Tangerine Dream. Steve rejoined Tangerine Dream in 1978 and together with Froese, Christopher Franke and Klaus Krüger, recorded the album Cyclone. The quartet toured Europe that year.

Steve Jolliffe - Amuletum

Artist: Steve Jolliffe
P: 2000 / 2010
Limited edition with autograph by Steve.
One lone track, with a lot of variations within the music. The music was composed back in 2000 and has a slight flowing character. Somtimes scary sometimes heavenly. Some sequences come in and percussion show the way, when suddenly Jolliffe's flute appears.

Steve Jolliffe - Beyond the Dream

Artist: Steve Jolliffe
P: 1984 / 2006
Limited edition with autograph by Steve.
"Beyond the Dream" is possibly Steve's most sensual, very likely his most romantic and definitely his most accesible album ever. It is also his most diverse and colourful effort: There's a touch of the 80s, vintage synths sequencing, jazz, pop and dense soundscapes. Pieces are short and structured, yet full of suprising details and feature crystal clear melodies and even Steve's very own singing - with a voice that will remind many of the great Eric Woolfson of the Alan Parsons Project. Why on earth "Captains of our fate"did not make it to the charts will remain an eternal mystery. Its unmatched positivity will remain an inspiration, as will Steve's unbroken optimism: "Covered people pray, fearful of the day/ Changes can be made, lovers can be saved/ All of us are captains of our fate"
This 44 minute CD from 1984 reflects a lyrical turn for Jolliffe's music. A wider range of instrumentation can be heard in this music: saxophones, drums, guitar, flute, and of course keyboards and electronics. The songs display inspirational vocals, backing up the message with delicately powerful tuneage of a soaring nature. Quite the dynamic album.

Steve Jolliffe - Cyclone Spheres 2016

Artist: Steve Jolliffe
P: 2016

I have been amazed by the faithful support from the 'Cyclone' followers. First recorded nearly 40 years ago and the frenzy still keeps growing. Back in 1978 Edgar felt that TD needed to reach a larger audience and asked me to think of something that would pull in more followers. My new direction was a little shocking for some and inspiring for others. Most of all it took me on a journey that deserved a devoted progression. So here I am bringing back those magic days to feed those hungry souls that demand more.

The Voice & The Flute of Tangerine Dream, returns with a
New Album: Cyclone Spheres 2016 a dedicated progression of the Tangerine Dream Cyclone album 1978......

Steve Jolliffe - Deep Down Far

Artist: Steve Jolliffe

1998

Note that the title of this record contains three words and all of them bear a special relevance to understanding its moods and intentions.
"Exordiri" opens with subcutaneous strings from deep under the earth's skin, a glittering and moving introduction to what must be the most obviously overwhelming of Steve's albums. Hundreds of years pass in just a few seconds, roaring thunders shake the imagination's foundations and melodic lines move with the grace and majesty of tectonic shifts.
"Verus" carefully builds from a subtle piano opening into a massive wall of sound, full of pulsating octaves and fulminant string attacks, then subsides into a relaxed state, before picking up speed again and ending in a whirlwind of emotions. The latter can be said of the entire album, which has just as many romantic moments as disturbing scenes and contrasts almost naive choral fantasies with harsh and brutal basses and mencing sound effects. As if this wasn't enough, "Infinity" packs all of these singular sensations into one piece of music, placing vitriolic acid lines next to dreamy piano passages and culminating in a tender childhood dream.
