On an irregular basis, I absolutely love to listen to some sophisticated ambient music in the final hours of the day or in early night time. It gives an opportunity to reflect a bit on things and put the mind to rest before turning to bed. The following recording is most suitable for such occasions.
"Architexture of Silence", the 18th release by Alpha Wave Movement, sees the return of composer Gregory Kyryluk using a very minimal hardware (0% software synthesis) setup and no computer-based sequencing whatsoever. He actually relied on an old-school hardware sequencer as a sketch pad while carefully shaping and sculpting the five gentle movements (all ranging between 10 and 14 minutes in length) that would end up as this full-length cosmic album.
The freeform and neatly structured outcome is subtle and tranquil, taking on slow turns and shapes as it progresses in a fluid, transparent tapestry of soft shimmering and slow morphing (drone)textures. It’s not exactly meditative, but harmonic with a certain soothing, minimal current running underneath.
I recommend listening to "Architexture of Silence" with a good pair of headphones and at low volume to get the full aural pleasure.

Twenty years ago, I released an album that very few people heard. It was originally a cd-r of songs that i had composed for a concert I played in June of 2000, at the Gatherings Concert Series in Philadelphia, PA. That was my second appearance there, my previous being in February of 1999. I wanted to not only create a new set of music to play for those in attendance, but also have something they could take home with them at the end of the evening, featuring the music they'd just heard.
Over the years, I've received inquiries as to whether or not I might do an official release of "Songs for the Gathering", and until recently, I'd not considered it. But given the perspective brought by 20 years of distance, I can hear not only previews of where I would eventually head on my ambient guitar path, but also a couple of songs that were the only ones of their kind in my catalog- like "An Isle", which still remains one of the most enjoyable songs for me to play in a live setting.

The album begins with the title track and if I didn't know better I'd easily be fooled into believing that it's a Tangerine Dream track from the 80's. Gregory has perfected the sound to a tee from the lush synths and sequences and not forgetting the all-important guitar. Moving on 'Dark Meridan' combines choral voices and a stabbing bass-line with harmonious keys creating a dream like atmosphere that also seems to nod back to yesteryear reminding me somewhat of the Yellow Magic Orchestra. Whilst 'Machine Mambo' combines atmospheric synths and digital rhythms with a slight eastern tinge.The vintage vibe continues with 'D.E.I. (Direct Emotional Interface) once again reminiscent of TD or Klaus Schulze both in the elongated beat-less intro and when the slow paced electronic beat kicks in. I'm finding elements of Kraftwerk and YMO with a sprinkling of Ozric's in 'Anoraxis' whereas 'Synergistic Highway' begins in a more foreboding manner the light soon shines through in a similar fashion.Atmospheric thunder leads us into a more dubby affair with a slightly Parisian like feel on 'Ecoutez' and finally to close the proceedings 'Metronomy' runs looping sequences with deep synths settling somewhere between Ozrics and Pink Floyd. Overall this is a really solid album from Alpha Wave Movement that truly reflects the synthesized music of yesteryear in a glorious fashion. A fashion that pays homage and doesn't fail in the quality of the tracks in the slightest.
