Jean Michel Jarre - Chronologie

Artist: Jean Michel Jarre
P: 1993

Chronologie tells the tale of Earth's history from it's creation to the world of today. Not only is Jarre's mastery of sythesizers incredible (as always), but the different musical styles he uses this time are incredibly varied. From the majestic hymns of the genesis to the rap-like beats of the modern world, Jarre manages to capture each era in one wonderful album.

Jean Michel Jarre - Oxygene 3 (Vinyl- LP)

Artist: Jean Michel Jarre
P: 2016

This is the vinyl version.
December 2nd 1976 saw the release of Oxygene 1, which I can say changed my life !

Today, for its 40th anniversary I can reveal that a brand new album, Oxygene 3 will be released on December 2nd 2016.

I don’t necessarily like anniversaries that much…But when I was recording Electronica, two years ago, I did a piece of music (today Oxygene 19) that made me think about what Oxygene could be if I was composing it today. Then I took the 40th anniversary of the first album as a deadline to push myself to see if I could compose this new chapter in six weeks, just like I did for the first one: probably to avoid thinking too much about, whether it was a good idea or not, and also to record everything in one go… The idea was not to copy the first album, but rather keeping the dogma of embarking listeners on a journey from beginning to end with different chapters, all linked to each other.

What made the first Oxygene so different at the time, is probably the minimalist aspect, and the fact that there are almost no drums, and I wanted to keep this approach, creating the groove mainly with the sequences and the structure of the melodies only, through an architecture of sounds.
When I did the first Oxygene in the vinyl days, I had a structure in mind divided in 2 parts, fitting the A&B sides of an album. This time I enjoyed doing the same: one side being darker, the other being brighter. So when I think of it today, Oxygene 3 has actually two sides...

I did the first Oxygene on an 8 track tape recorder with very few instruments, with no other choice than being minimalist. I tried to keep this minimalist approach for Oxygene 3. Some moments are built around one or two elements, like in the first volume.

It was important to me to keep the artwork for Oxygene 3 in line with the two previous albums…40 years ago too, I discovered Michel Granger’s visual universe and immediately felt a total adequacy with the music I was composing. Since then, the cover artwork became famous, like an ecological warning signal, dark and surreal, evoking both outer space and that of our vital living space: this image, for me, has become inseparable from the music.

I wanted the Oxygene 3 visual to remain in that same vein, and hence to re-visit Michel Granger’s original work, simply shifting «photographed-like» from another angle, which was exactly aligned with the approach I had to create this new chapter in music. To this end, I asked Michel Granger’s permission to perform a 3D model of his creation in order to change the angle of the visual, which he amicably accepted.

What an incredible journey Oxygene has been so far. I very much look forward to continuing the Oxygene story with all of you,

Love
Jean-Michel Jarre

Klaus Schulze - 101, Milky Way (2 LP)

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P:
2024
Double Vinyl

"101, Milky Way" is a true treasure from Klaus Schulze's musical legacy. It is one of those KS works that absolutely must be presented to the world, and as such it is part of our obligation to share all of his music with you all. And of course, as always, the genesis of this album has its very own story: it all began in late 2008 with a request from a German film production company asking if Klaus might do the soundtrack for a planned film documentary about computer hackers. This eventually turned into a complete KS album, from which the director of the documentary "Hacker - Alex Biedermann" was to use only small parts as soft background music. With "101, Milky Way", the complete work is now available for the first time - a greeting from Klaus' new cosmic home somewhere in the universe.

Klaus Schulze - Deus Arrakis (3LP)

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 2022

About ‘Deus Arrakis‘ Klaus Schulze says: „On the one hand this album was created as spontaniously as all my albums before, on the other hand it has a special history: when I produced my eleventh album ‘Dune‘ in 1979 I already knew the ‘Dune‘ triology by Frank Herbert inside out like other people knew their ‘Lord of the Rings‘. I was totally fascinated by this monumental story of the desert planet und I read the books over and over again. I asked Arthur (Brown) and Wolfgang (Tiepold) to come to my studio and started creating my own musical ‘Dune‘. And with the track ‘Frank Herbert‘ from my previous album ‘X‘ I wanted to show respect to the great author. After the following film versions -not really satisfying in my view- the ‘Dune‘ theme was not in my focus anymore and was forgotten for a long time. But suddenly - about 40 years later - I heard of plans regarding a ‘Dune‘ remake by Denis Villeneuve – which totally unexpected hit a spot with me. I started to read the books again and even rewatched the film by David Lynch. Actually, I do quite a lot of reading currently, as I now have the time for it! After a while I then also started making music again but did not really think of ‘Dune‘ anymore. Months later the phone rang and Lisa (Gerrard) connected me to her friend Hans Zimmer. He had this idea for a cooperation... exactly for that very ‘Dune‘ remake by Denis Villeneuve! We got on well from the start – just like me, Hans also is a huge fan of ‘Dune‘ – and the result indeed ended up being in the 'Dune' movie. Truly incredible how sometimes circles open up, cross and then close again in the end. However, I was caught again by the deserts of ‘Dune‘ and needed more ‘spice‘. Excitedly I returned to my studio and found a cello recording by Wolfgang Tiepold. From there I felt completely unleashed and just played and played… at the end of that second private ‘Dune‘ journey I realized: ‘Deus Arrakis‘ became another salute to Frank Herbert and to that great gift of life in general.“
All titles written and recorded by Klaus Schulze with Tom Dams.
Cello by Wolfgang Tiepold, Voice noises by Eva-Maria Kagermann.
Produced by Tom Dams at Moldau Musik Studio, Walhalla and mastered at Studio Forstmehren.

Klaus Schulze - Kontinuum (3 LP)

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P:2007 / 2025

Kontinuum from 2007 consists of three typical Schulze longtracks. The first track, "Sequenzer (from 70 to 7)," takes the listener back to the 1970s with its signature Schulze sequencer sounds. With "Euro Caravan," Schulze glides musically toward the present, and with the over half-hour-long "Thor (Thunder)," the electronic master takes us on a journey into the future.

Klaus Schulze - Moonlake (3LP)

Artist: Klaus Schulze
P: 2005

The title “Moonlake” refers to Schulze’s love of the Austrian Moonlake and the monumental fascination radiated by this lake and its surrounding landscape. All of this is perfectly reflected in the intensity and power of his latest album.
“Moonlake” is nevertheless a typical Klaus Schulze album, one that in the words of Schulze “unites tradition and vision”.Klaus Schulze has revolutionized electronic music. Music is and will always be a kind of self-therapy, not just for Schulze alone but also for people who are willing to let themselves fall with open ears and hearts... There is a noticeable focus on percussion on “Moonlake”, which hasn’t been found on Schulze’s albums for some time. While rhythm was often used as an element to supplement the music on his earlier albums, it takes on a more dominant role on “Moonlake”. The album also marks the introduction of Schulze playing the Mini-Moog (with distortion and Wah-Wah!) in the studio for the first time. Previously Schulze had only ever used this set up live on stage.
This working process gave Klaus Schulze the necessary surge of adrenalin to create a vibrant and lively album, which hides many surprises, such as the ethnic elements found in the track “Playmate in Paradise” for example.
Klaus Schulze: “The ethnic element comes from Thomas Kagermann, better known in earlier times as Fiddle Michel. He actually comes from the folk scene. However, today he is very open to what I am doing. It’s the counterpoint to conventional electronics, which allows you to expand considerably. When you are working exclusively in the electronic field you often get caught in a box. By means of using uneven patterns perhaps, which are looped but have a groove in them, there are completely new moments and aspects”.
Apart from the first two tracks, “Playmate in Paradise” and “Artemis in Jubileo”, which were recorded ‘live’ in the studio, there are also two actual live performance pieces on “Moonlake”.
“Same Thought Lion” and “Mephisto” were both recorded in Poland on November 5th 2003 during a concert in Posen for Gert Hof’s huge light show. These edited tracks are now available for the first time for a larger audience to enjoy.
Just as with every other Klaus Schulze album, “Moonlake” is a new venture, an experiment and a unique document of a musician who has followed his inner voice and intuition for decades. An artist who creates worlds which cannot be compared to anything else.
