Axess - Time Traveller

Artists: Axess
P: 2005

Axel Stupplich is back with his third solo effort outside of Pyramid Peak, Time Traveller. As with his previous releases, the emphasis is on energetic electronics and rhythms.
The title track is dance floor ready right out of the box, chugging along effusively from beginning to end. Much more relaxed is "The Uncertainty Principle," which slides into a cool groove and shuffles along quite enjoyably from there.
"Cuba Libre" is another moderately paced number, again a perfect balance between the beats and the cool synth sounds. Back we head on to the dance floor with "Fly Away," even more so than the opener. A light bright synth takes on the melody nicely. A quirky little bass sound brings up "Mirror Of Illusions," a growling churning sensual piece that is a lot of fun. Male chanting lends an ethnic touch to "Pharao," one of the very few dreamy atmospheric selections to be had. Though drums and bass do eventually arrive, it continues to move slow and easy. A lot of processed spoken vocals begin "Bombay Fruit Market," then an edgy aggressive synth totally makes me think of Jean-Michel Jarre when he’s having a techno moment. The word "fun" comes to mind often throughout Time Traveller, especially here. Crank it up, then take a breather for the ethereal 15-minute "World of Secrets" at the end.

Andy Pickford - Departure

Artist: Andy Pickford
P: 2023

A 78 minute album of melodic and atmospheric tracks that is easy on the ear. Been proving itself popular throughout production by getting played here a lot. It's a pleasant listen, apparently! Not that I go out of my way to make unlistenable shite anyway, but this one seems to hit the"nice" button all of its own accord. The sound is presented in Dolby Atmos Binaural, which does make it sound immersive on headphones, but it works generally all round I find and certainly delivers a better clarity and overall balance.

Axess - Zen

Artists: Axess
P: 2020

ZEN is the 8th solo album of Axess and the sequel to Seahsore. It consequently follows the musical route which has started a few years ago. The new CD starts with peaceful pads and warm harmonies which make you relaxed instantly. But don’t trust the peace for too long, already in the 2nd track you will be woken up and suddenly find yourself in a different world of deep basses and hypnotic beats. On the audio CD all 8 tracks of ZEN are combined with each other to form one single piece of musical art. Ideally it should be listened without any interruptions and with headphones it would be even more perfect to let you enter the new musical cosmos of Axess
