After the excellent 'Looking for the Arms of Venus' I approached this CD with great anticipation. The 8 minute title track opens and immediately it's evident that Eric Snelders does not believe in departing too radically from a winning formula. The synth timbres, the female spoken voice and the measured approach are all very reminiscent of his previous album. 'Mixed Up Messages From My Mind' is a superb track bursting with intricate sequence patterns which surround a delicate piano interlude, while the short 'Beyond the Edge of the World' is a subliminal wash of ambience. The emphasis switches to a restrained and enjoyable melody on 'The Turn of a Lightship', and a throbbing bass sequence underpins massed synths on 'Cugel's Mission'. More pin sharp sequence patterns dominate the upbeat 'Wuthering Thoughts' accompanied by breezy melodics. The closing trio maintain the standard with ease and especially notable throughout the whole album is the superb sound quality - almost 3D at times. Fans of modern, melodic EM with plenty of sequences will certainly find much to their taste on this album. If you already have Eric Snelders' previous release 'Looking for the Arms of Venus' then this won't disappoint. (GG)
